Intermediate base for arranging a light-sensitive switch for an electrical device which is to be automatically switched on and off at different room light levels The present invention has for its object an intermediate base of a light-sensitive switch for an electrical device, which are automatically switched on and off at different room light levels should.
It is known to use electrical switches in connection with a lamp post, a lantern or with other electrical devices and to turn them on automatically when the day light decreases, and to turn them off when dawn occurs. These switches are arranged in special housings and are electrically connected to a lamp post, a lamp holder or to another electrical device. In order to establish this connection, it is necessary to drill holes in the pile or in the housing in order to be able to pass the wires through and to anchor screws or bolts, which proves to be disadvantageous.
The arrangement of a photosensitive switch on the outside of a pole is connected to various parts after, because this switch is exposed to the weather and thus requires frequent maintenance so that it is maintained in an operational state. Additional clips, rings and fittings are also required for attaching the switch.
The present invention makes it possible to overcome these shortcomings. The inventive inter mediate base is characterized by a cylindri cal hollow housing, which has an extension in the upper part that forms a base for receiving a power-consuming device, and a plug that is carried by the housing, axially aligned with said extension and in a power supply socket of said device is attached, further characterized in that the plug and the housing are mutually rotatable, that the housing has a lateral opening and that a photocell is arranged in the housing, which is exposed through said opening.
In the accompanying drawing, an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown. In detail: Fig. 1 shows a vertical section through a La terne and a front view of the intermediate base, which is arranged in the lantern, Fig. 2 is a perspective of the intermediate base on a smaller scale, Fig. 3 is a top view of the intermediate base, Fig. 4 a Bottom view of the intermediate base, FIG. 5 a section on a larger scale along the line 5-5 in FIG. 3,
6 shows a cross section along the line 6-6 of FIG. 5, FIG. 7 shows a cross section along the line 7-7 of FIG. 5, with individual parts being shown in a view from below, FIG. 8 shows a rod in perspective which leads to the Dissipation of the heat from the photocell is used, Fig. 9 is a top view of a flange plate, Fig. 10 is a section along the line 10-10 of Fig. 9,
Fig. 11 is a side view of the flange plate taken along line 11-11 of Fig. 10; Fig. 12 is an electrical diagram of the device.
In Figs. 1-7, an intermediate base 20 is ge shows. This intermediate base has a cylindrical housing 22 which has a flat head 24 which is provided with a tube neck 26. In this tube neck a threaded sleeve 23 is hen vorgese, which serves as a base for a light bulb 28. A center contact 30 is arranged at a distance from the base (see FIGS. 3 and 5). Several ventilation holes 21 are provided in the head 24.
The housing 22 has an open bottom in which a bottom flange plate 25 is removably fastened by means of screws 34. A rotatable plug 29 is arranged along the axis of the flange plate 25 and extends downward. This plug has a conductive threaded sleeve 32 and a centrally arranged contact element 34 which is at a distance from the sleeve 32 is introduced. Ventilation holes 33 are provided in the plate 25.
In FIG. 1, the plug 29 is screwed into a base 35 of the lantern 40. The lantern is fed via the base 35 by means of the wires 42. A tubular post carries the lantern 40. A fitting 44 of the lantern is screwed into the top of the post. This fitting has an annular flange 45 which carries a lamp ball 46 through view. This lamp ball is provided with a metal hood 48. The holes 49 in the metal hood and the holes 50 in the base of the armature 44 allow air to pass in the direction of arrow A.
The threaded base of the lamp 28 is in the base of the tube neck 26 and the plug 29 is screwed into the base 35. A rod 49 extends upward from the head 24 through a slot 47. This rod serves as a heat conductor and dissipates the room heat from the photocell. It has slits which form fingers at its tip. These fingers improve the operation of the rod 49.
5 and 7 show the inner part of the Ge housing. A switch 70, which is arranged on the lower part of the head 24 and fastened by means of rivets 72 BE, has a push button 74. This push button extends downward and comes into contact with a screw 75 which is fastened to the end of a bimetal element 76 of the thermal relay 64. The other end of the bimetallic element 76 is fastened to a spacer block 77 which is carried by one end of a bimetal element 78 which compensates for the temperature. The other end of the bimetal element is fastened by means of Nie th 79 on an elevation 81 in the inner part of the housing.
A heating resistor 82 is arranged on the bimetal element 76. The photocell 90 is a cylindrical member which is installed in a cylindrical metal eyelet 92. This eyelet has an outer ring flange 94 which lies next to the edge of a hole 95 which is provided in the lower end 96 of the rod 49 (see FIG. 8). Opposite, semi-cylindrical depressions 97a, 98a, 99a and 97b, 98b are provided in the adjacent parts of the housing 22 and in the flange plate, respectively. The recesses 90n, 97b define a cylindrical seat for the body of the eyelet 92.
The recesses 98a, 98b form a cylindrical seat for the flange 94 of the eyelet 92. The recesses 99a, 99b define a circular opening through which the photocell 90 is exposed (see also Fig. 9-1l). In the hole 97 an optical filter in the form of a disk 38 is arranged, which blocks red rays and allows blue-green rays to pass through. The filter 38 protects the intermediate cap from the heat rays which originate from the lamp and are reflected by the lamp ball 40. This filter attenuates the light rays that were reflected by the lamp ball very strongly, so that the reflected light rays, which are essentially red and yellow, have almost no effect on the photocell.
The room light, for example daylight, which is mainly blue-green, is transmitted by the filter 38 and reaches the photocell 90. The filter 38 thus eliminates the local light and heat sources in favor of the room light rays.
9-11 show the structure of the flange plate 25; the latter has an annular part 100, on the circumference of which arc-shaped openings 33 are arranged at a distance, which serve as lower air channels. These openings allow air to enter the interior of the housing. The holes 104 in the plate 25 are used to fasten the flange plate on the housing 22 by means of screws 24. These screws are screwed into the threaded holes 31, which are provided in the elevations 37 (see FIG. 7). The plate 25 has curved edges 25 'which correspond to the associated elevations 106 on the lower side of the housing (see FIGS. 4 and 5).
The flange plate 25 is provided with an annular shoulder 108 which has a central opening 110. The plug 29 extends through the openings 110. This plug has an annular flange 112 which is provided with a groove 114 (see FIGS. 5 and 6). This groove encompasses an arc of. 340, which is interrupted by a radial stop element. This stop element limits the rotation of the plug in the shoulder 108. A projecting lug 116 is provided on the shoulder 108 (see FIGS. 9-11).
This approach comes into contact with the stop element 115 and has the effect that the housing and the flange cannot be rotated more than 340 on the plug. A recess 120 is provided in the flange plate between the recesses 98b and 99b in which the end of the rod 49 is arranged.
Mating electrical wires connect the scarf ter 70, the heating resistor 82, the photocell 90 and the electrical contacts (see Fig. 12). The lamp 28 is shown schematically with its base contacts 122, 124, which come into contact with the Sockelkon contacts that are formed by the slot 23 and the central contact 30. The wire 125 connects the socket contact 30 to the contacts 128 of the switch 70. The screw 75 of the bimetal element 76 comes into contact with the push button 74 in order to open the switch when the heating resistor 82 is switched on. A connection terminal of the photocell 90 is connected to a connection terminal of the heating resistor.
The wire 134 connects the other terminal of the photocell 90 to the wire 136. The latter is connected between the base 132 and the plug contact 32. The other plug contact 34 is connected to the other switch contact 126 and the other heating resistor terminal via the wire 138. The terminals 140, 142 of the lantern base 34, which comes into contact with the plug contacts 32, 34, are connected to the supply source PS.
The intermediate base 20 is net angeord as follows: First, this intermediate base is attached along the vertical axis and screwed its plug into the base 35 of the lantern. The base of the lamp 28 is then screwed into the intermediate cap 20. The housing 22 is rotated while the plug 29 remains idle until the photocell is in the best geographical position, preferably facing north. The room light, preferably the light from the north, which reaches the photocell 90 through the filter 38 during the day, reduces the internal resistance of the photocell, so that the heating resistor 82 is switched on and the bimetal element 76 is heated in order to open the switch 70 .
After dusk, the intensity of the room light decreases and the resistance of the photocell increases, so that the heating resistor 82 is switched off. The bimetal element cools and the push button 74 is released, whereupon the switch returns to its normally closed position. The source of supply of the lamp 28 is switched on, which remains lit until dawn. In this moment, the stronger room light reduces the resistance of the photocell 90, and the heating resistor 82 is switched on. The bimetal element 72 heats and flexes, thereby opening the switch 70 and turning the lamp 28 off.
This arrangement is safe to operate because switch 70 is normally closed and the lamp remains lit if, for any reason, thermal relay 64 or photocell 90 are out of service.
Instead of a thermal relay, an electromagnetic relay can be used. This can have small dimensions and be inserted into the hollow space 29 'of the plug 29. The switch 70 can in this case be attached to the bottom of the housing 22 in order to be able to make the wires 136, 138 shorter. This arrangement makes it possible to reduce the size of the housing 22.
The filter 28 arranged in the openings 99a, 99b effectively protects the photocell 90 against undesired light and against heat rays. This is very important because the photocell has a sensitive crystal element 91 which is adversely affected by heat. The metal eyelet 92 and the rod 49 act as a heat conductor and protect the photocell 90 against heating. The fingers 67 of the rod 49 are arranged in the air flow which traverses the lamp ball, so that this air flow cools the rod 49. Another air flow is used to ventilate the intermediate base 20.
The air enters the flange plate through the arcuate holes 33 and exits the latter through a plurality of spaced holes 21 which are arranged in the cover of the housing next to the rod 49 (see FIGS. 2, 3 and 7). This inner air flow cools the eyelet 92, as a result of which the heat sinks 49, 92 are cooled on the outside and inside by two air flows.
The rotatable arrangement of the housing of the inter mediate base with respect to the lamp post is very advantageous because it is always possible to bring the inter mediate base in the best geographical position for the photocell. The intermediate base can easily be screwed in without unnecessary wiring and thus arranged inconspicuously inside the lantern. This intermediate base is also protected against weather, wind and dust by a glass or plastic ball, even if the photocell is exposed to room light.
In addition, the two air currents keep it in a cool state so that it can remain in operation without interruption and trouble-free. All parts, with the exception of the electrically conductive, can be made of plastic or some other suitable insulating material. The series production enables very cheap manufacture. The various elements can also be easily assembled and disassembled.
The photocell can be of any type, but preferably a photocell is used, the internal resistance of which depends on the intensity of the incident light. These photocells are very sensitive to light, but are adversely affected by the heat in the room. They have sensitive crystal elements that sometimes lose their sensitivity when they are heated from the outside.
Although the embodiment has been described in connection with a lamp and a lamp post be, it is possible to use the fiction, according to the intermediate socket with a lantern, a lamp holder or any electrical device that should be turned on and off at different levels of light .
