Device for fixing a bypass on a pipe The present invention relates to a device for fixing a bypass on a pipe in installations for distributing a gaseous or liquid fluid. The branches are usually made using special T- or Y-shaped fittings. These fittings are screwed into the main line while the branch line is screwed onto the fitting. When it comes to piping gaseous fluid under pressure, the screwed joints must be made with care to avoid any leakage.
The assembly of this type of installation therefore requires a relatively large number of working hours. In certain installations which have a bypass ramp, the installers have sought to reduce the cost price by screwing the bypasses directly into the wall of the supply pipe. This type of installation is used, for example, by manufacturers of gas cookers. In order to avoid gas leaks, it is obviously necessary to fill the threads of the taps with a special coating.
However, as generally the bypass line came from a single piece of manufacture with the body of a valve for controlling the flow of fluid from the bypass and this valve must be oriented so that its control member is located in the position provided by the manufacturer, it often happens that the fitter forces the thread and pulls it out while trying to screw the valve to the desired position and the entire boom must be discarded or else he is obliged , after tightening, partially tighten the bypass to place the valve in the desired orientation and then leaks occur after a short period of service.
Many solutions have been proposed to solve this problem, but none is really satisfactory, because none of these solutions allow easy and rapid disassembly and - reassembly of the bypass while ensuring good seal tightness. However, today the manufacturers of gas cookers, for example, are particularly interested in a complete and satisfactory solution of this problem because the gas distributions are currently made under greater pressures than in the past, and in addition the gases produced at from tars and oils quickly deteriorate the coatings used to blind the joints.
However, the risk of accident of which these leaks of household combustible gas can be the cause, encourage the manufacturers of gas stoves to remove any joint blinded by a plaster and moreover to make easily removable branches in order to facilitate the replacement of a Bare valve defective.
The device for fixing a bypass, object of the present invention, obviates the drawbacks cited by the fact that it is constituted by a bayonet coupling, the male part of which is integral with the bypass pipe, while the part fe melle is constituted by a non-circular opening of shape corresponding to that of the male part made in the wall of the main pipe, and by the fact that the seal is ensured by an annular seal tightened by the bayonet coupling between a shoulder of the bypass and a flat area of the main pipe and surrounding said opening constituting the female part of this coupling.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the device, object of the invention adapted more particularly to a gas cooker rail.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of the fixing device along the line I-I of FIG. 2. FIG. 2 is a sectional view along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
The accompanying drawing illustrates a main pipe 1 for supplying household fuel gas which has a rectangular cross section. On this pipe 1 are branched several valves 2, only one of which is shown. Each valve comprises a body 3 provided with a plug carrying an operating member 5.
The body 3 came from a piece of manufacture with a branch pipe 6, the end of which is provided with the male part 9 with a bayonet coupling. The body 3 also has an annular groove 7 coaxial with the bypass pipe 6 and in which is housed an annular seal 8 made of a flexible and elastic material such as synthetic rubber for example.
The female part of the bayonet coupling consists of a non-circular opening 10 of shape corresponding to the male part 9 and made directly in the wall of the main pipe. The depth p of the groove 7 is less than the normal thickness of the annular seal 8 so that when the bypass is put in place by engaging the male and female parts of the bayonet seal, this seal is tight and slightly crushed as shown in FIG. 1 - between the bottom 11 of the groove 7 and the external surface 12 of the wall of the main pipe 1.
The orientation of the valve is fixed by a port 13 integral with the body of the valve engaged in an orifice 14 of a gasket 15 of the gas cooker. From the foregoing one can easily see the very great ease of assembly and disassembly afforded by the fixing device described. In addition, the practical tests carried out have shown that the seal obtained is perfect even when it comes to ensuring the seal against gases produced from tars or oils.
Very multiple variants of execution adapted to each particular case can be envisaged. Thus, for example, the groove 7 could be arranged in a collar forcibly engaged, welded or attached in any other way to the end of the bypass pipe 6. In another variant, the main pipe 1 could be of circular section, and have a flat area surrounding the opening 10 made in its side wall and constituting the female part of the coupling. The seal 8 would then be clamped between this area and the bottom of the groove 7.
This main pipe could also be constituted by a tube in the general cylindrical shape but partially crushed so as to present at least one flat wall.
