Process for the preparation of acetoaceticamides It is known that acetoaceticamides can be prepared by reacting primary or secondary amines with the equivalent amounts of diketene in the presence of inert solvents such as benzene, toluene, chlorobenzene, acetone or even water.
The crystallized acetoaceticamides obtained in this way are freed from the solvent by filtration and subsequent treatment in suitable dryers under normal or reduced pressure. The liquid amides, on the other hand, can be separated off by distillation.
These processes now have considerable disadvantages, consisting in the fact that, in the synthesis of solid amides with a relatively low melting point and of liquid amides, the solvents can only be separated off with difficulty and with losses in yield.
It has also been proposed to produce the reaction in the absence of inert solvents or diluents. However, various undesirable by-products are formed which can only be separated off with difficulty and with losses.
It has now been found that acetoacetic amides can be prepared in a simple manner without the use of inert solvents in practically quantitative yields and technically usable qualities if the reaction is carried out in the presence of the reaction product as a diluent, in which case the distilling off of the solvent can be saved.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of acetoacetic acid amides by order of diketene with amines of the formula
EMI0001.0036
different alkyl radicals mean :, and is characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of the reaction product as a diluent above its melting point and at a maximum of 80.degree.
According to one embodiment of the process, the reaction is carried out at temperatures of 5-20 ° C. above the melting point of the acetoacetic acid amide to be formed. Preferably, 1.5-10 times the amount of the reaction product obtained hourly is presented as the reaction medium.
The acetoacetyl derivatives of the amines of the formula mentioned are partially liquid at room temperature, such as. B. those: of diethylamine or 2-ethylamine, partly solid, such. B. those of n-hexylamine, n-heptylamine or mebhylamine. The optimum reaction temperature can be set by the rate of addition of the reactants and appropriate cooling of the reaction medium.
The process can be carried out either continuously or batchwise.
The purity of the products obtained by the process according to the invention naturally depends on the quality of the starting products used and is about 98% when using 98.5% strength diketene.
The acetoacetic amides obtained serve as inter mediate products in organic chemistry.
Example 1 100 g of acetoacetic-n-heptylamide are heated to 60 ° C. in a three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and dropping funnel. With vigorous stirring and cooling, 38.4 g of 100% n-heptylamine and 28.5 g of 98.5% diketene are added dropwise at 60 ° C. over the course of about one hour.
When the addition is complete, the corresponding amount of acetoacetate-n-heptylamide (approx. 65 g) can be withdrawn with a suction tube in which R1 and R2 hydrogen or the same or the same amount and solidified by cooling. M.p. 54-57 C. The process is started as shown by again adding diketene and n-heptylamine.
Example 2 A sump of 300 ml acetoacetic-n-hexylamide is heated to 60 ° C. in a 500 ml three-necked flask fitted with a stirrer, thermometer and dropping funnel. 100% n-hexylamine and 98.5% diketene in a weight ratio of 1: 0.845 were introduced separately at 60 ° C. with vigorous stirring and cooling.
The warm acetoacetic-n-hexylamide is drawn off in the appropriate amount with a siphon system and poured into a suitable; Solidified vessel. Mp. 50-53 C. In this way, about 200 g of the acetic acid derivative can be produced per hour.
Example 3 1000 l of acetoacetic diethylamide are placed in a stainless 2000 liter reactor which is provided with a strong stirrer and an effective cooling device (brine at -20 C).
100% diethylamine and 98.5% diketene in a weight ratio of 1: 1.17 are then introduced separately and successively. The internal temperature is kept at 20 C by varying the flow rates.
With the help of an overflow, the acetoacetic diethylamide formed in an approximate amount of 120 kg / h is withdrawn into a postreactor, where the conversion is completed by adding small amounts of base or diketene.
The derivative is obtained as an oily liquid in 98% purity and is filled into containers, bp. 119.5-120.5 C / 14 mm Hg, m.p. about -71 2 C.
Example 4 A three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and dropping funnel is charged with 500 g of acetoacetic-2-ethylhexylamide.
At 20 ° C., with thorough stirring and cooling, 129 g of 100% 1, -, es 2-ethylhexyl'amine and 86 g of 98% diketene are added dropwise in such a way that the temperature never rises above the level mentioned. When the addition is complete, 215 g of acetoacetic acid derivative are withdrawn and the process can begin again. The acetoacetic-2-ethylhexylamide boils at a temperature of 100 to 101 ° C at a pressure of 0.01 mm Hg, m.p. about 0 1 C.
Example 5 To 400 g of acetoacetic-n-diamylamide, which are in a three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, dropping funnel and thermometer, are added within 2½ hours. 157 g of 100% diamylamine and 86 g of 98% diketene were added dropwise.
After the reaction has ended, during which the temperature should not exceed 20 ° C., a corresponding amount of acetoacetic-n-diamylamide is withdrawn. The acetoacetic-n-diamylamide boils at a temperature of 111-112'C at a pressure of 0.15 mm Hg, m.p. about -50 2 C.
