<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
andergreifen.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for feeding fine-grained moist material into a drying gas stream. The invention relates to a device for feeding fine-grained, moist material in fine distribution into a drying gas stream.
There are already devices for the task of material in a drying gas stream are known in which a crushing device, for. B. a knife roller, is arranged in front of the shaft or the pipe in which the drying gases flow upwards. The shredding device is intended to shred coarser pieces of the feed material and throw the material to be dried into the gas flow. It is true that clumps of moist material are also comminuted, but the grain sizes in which the material finally reaches the drying stream are still relatively large, and the material is therefore only dried slowly in this stream.
This leads to long drying shafts. In addition, the gas velocity in the drying shafts has to be high because of the coarse piece size of the goods so that the goods can be transported with the gas flow. This in turn leads to a high flow resistance of the shaft and thus to a high expenditure of force and high system costs for the fan of the drying gas flow.
The object of the invention is to create a device for feeding fine-grained moist material into a drying gas stream, with the aid of which the material reaches the gas stream in such a fine distribution that the disadvantages described above are avoided.
The device according to the invention is characterized by a continuously running conveying means which feeds the material to the drying gas flow and in whose discharge opening facing the drying gas flow a rapidly rotating centrifugal roller provided with ribs or teeth is provided, which takes up at least approximately the entire width of the discharge opening of the conveying means.
This device can be operated in such a way that the goods to be fed in are not shredded into individual pieces by the spinning roller, but rather that thin layers are scraped off the goods that are transported by the conveyor and thrown into the drying gas flow at high speeds of the spinning roller . This results in a very fine distribution of the moist material, so that drying takes place quickly and only relatively low flow speeds of the drying gas are required to transport the material.
Coarse agglomerations of the moist material cannot get into the drying gas flow because the centrifugal roller, as mentioned, takes up approximately the entire width of the discharge opening of the conveying means.
Furthermore, the roller body of the centrifugal roller can be pulled out in the direction of its axis beyond the walls of the conveying means. If the steel walls of the conveyor are attached to the end of the roller body of the centrifugal roller, there is a risk that the fine material will penetrate the gap between these walls and the roller body of the centrifugal roller and lead to rapid wear there.
The conveying means which feeds the moist material to the centrifugal roller can advantageously be designed as a screw and be cantilevered on its feed side outside the housing. With this training, there is only little wear and tear on the conveying means. The conveying means can also advantageously be designed as a double screw, with the two screw strands being suitably arranged in such a way that their turns
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
grip differently. In this way it is prevented that the material in the screw housing rotates with the screw and that no transport occurs.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown schematically, namely: FIG. 1 shows a device partly in side view, partly in section, FIG. 2 is a plan view of the device according to FIG. 1, FIG. 3 is a detail from FIG 2 on a larger scale, FIG. 4 a section along the line IV-IV in FIG.
In the device shown in the drawing, two drum suction filters 1 and 2 are provided, to which the material to be dried is placed in the form of a slurry or sludge and with the help of which it is pre-drained. The pre-drainage takes place so far that on the one hand the material can no longer flow, but on the other hand it is also not yet free-flowing. The filter cake of the two filters is discharged into a vertical shaft 3, under which a horizontal, continuously running conveyor 4 is provided. This conveyor can expediently be designed as a speed-adjustable apron or chain conveyor.
It has the task of discharging the moist material from the shaft 3 and feeding it to a second conveying means 5 in the respectively desired amount. This conveyor is designed as a double screw in the device shown. The two screw strands 6 and 7 of this screw are overhung at their feed end 8. The bearings 10 and 11 are expediently arranged outside the screw housing 9 in order to prevent wear from the goods to be transported.
Furthermore, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 3, the two screw strands are arranged in such a way that their turns 12 and 13 intermesh. In this way, the goods to be transported are prevented from rotating with the screw, which would not achieve an axial transport effect. The screw strands 6 and 7 end at a certain distance in front of the discharge opening of the screw, so that the material in the area of this distance is only transported by the pressure of the following material and is thus accumulated in front of the opening.
At the same time, this results in an air seal in the drying tube, which is normally under overpressure or underpressure.
A centrifugal roller 15 is arranged in the discharge opening itself immediately in front of the drying tube 14. As can be seen from FIGS. 1, 3 and 4, this roller takes up practically the entire width of the discharge opening. It consists of a roller body provided with teeth or ribs 16. Advantageously, this roller body is guided outwards beyond the side walls 18 of the screw conveyor 5, since otherwise the material accumulated in front of the roller could settle in the gap between the outer walls 18 and the roller body and lead to rapid wear there.
The ends of the roller body which are guided through the side walls 18 of the screw conveyor 5 are advantageously smooth, i.e. they are smooth. H. formed without ribs or teeth. The shaft 19 of the centrifugal roller is rotatably held in bearings 20 outside the side walls 18 of the screw housing. By means of a drive, not shown, the centrifugal roller is set in a rapid rotation in the direction of arrow 21 (FIG. 1).
The circumferential speed of the centrifugal roller should be so high that only a very thin layer is carried along by the ribs 16 of the material that accumulates in front of the roller. As soon as the ribs 16 reach the free area of the discharge opening during the rotation of the centrifugal roller, the material that has been carried along is thrown into the drying flow indicated by the arrows 22 and 23.
Since the roller 15, as said, occupies the entire width of the discharge opening and, due to its high circumferential speed, only grips a thin layer of the material fed to it, it is ensured that the material to be dried is finely divided into the drying gas flow. The drying takes place quickly and can also be carried out to a sufficient extent at relatively low temperatures.
In the device shown in the drawing, the exhaust gases from a rotary kiln 24 serve as the drying gas. These gases flow one after the other through the pipe 25, the cyclone 26, the pipe 14, the cyclone 27 and finally through the pipe 28. A pipe not shown in the latter is shown The fan is switched on, which generates a negative pressure in the drying pipe system and thus causes a gas flow. As described above, the material is introduced into the pipe 14 in fine distribution. Here it is gripped by the drying gas flow and fed to the cyclone 27.
The goods are dried during transport to the cyclone and in the cyclone itself. The material leaves the cyclone through line 29 and is fed back to the drying gas flow in pipe 25. The gas has a higher temperature in this tube than in the tube 14, so that here, if necessary, residual drying and / or even a chemical conversion, e.g. B. calcination can be carried out. The material is carried in the cyclone 26 through the pipe 25. Here again the separation of the material takes place, which finally reaches the rotary kiln 24 through the line 30.
In the lines 29 and 30 locks (not shown) in the form of flaps, cellular wheels or the like are provided, which allow the material to be discharged but prevent the passage of drying gas.
The device according to the invention is not connected to the drying device shown in the drawing
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
device, but can also be used with all other drying devices in which the material is dried floating in a gas stream. For example, the drying device can also consist of a single long drying shaft. Furthermore, in a drying device similar to the device shown in the drawing, more than two cyclones can also be connected in series with respect to the gas flow. It can also have only one cyclone. Instead of the cyclones, separators of other types, e.g.
B. dust chambers may be provided.
The device according to the invention can, of course, also be used when not only drying but also, as mentioned above, chemical conversion of the material is to be carried out in a gas stream.
With the help of the device described can. in a particularly advantageous manner, for. B. aluminum hydrate, which is to be converted to aluminum oxide in a rotary kiln, are given up to a pre-drying and pre-heating gas stream. The aluminum hydroxide is obtained after wet processing together with a great deal of water. It is first pre-dewatered in drum filters or the like to a water content of 12 to 15% and then, with the aid of the device, a drying gas stream at a temperature of, for. B. supplied about 450 at the feed point.
In this stream it is completely dried and initially preheated to approx. If the gas quantity and temperature is sufficient, the heating of the goods after the actual drying process can go so far that the aluminum hydroxide is already calcined, ie. H. an expulsion of the chemically bound water occurs. This can be the case in particular if the exhaust gases from the rotary kiln are used, which have a temperature of around 1000 C when they exit the rotary kiln.
The use of these gases for drying and preheating enables particularly good heat utilization and thus extremely economical operation of the rotary kiln.
Of course, the device is also suitable for feeding other goods that are obtained in a moist state and in small grain sizes. The moisture of the property. should, as mentioned above, be within such limits that the feedstock is on the one hand no longer flowable and on the other hand is not yet free-flowing.
