um das Durchströmen von Gas zwischen dem Gehäuse und dem Kolben zu verhindern, und der mit seinem Hinterende mit einem Antriebszylinder verbunden ist, so dass sein Vorderende in Längsrichtung hin und her bewegt werden kann, und zwar von einer Stelle, die hinter der Einlassöffnung liegt bis zu einer Stelle, die vor der Auslassöffnung gelegen ist, und die in den Gasdurchlass ragt, wenn sich der Druckkolben in seiner Vorwärtsstellung befindet;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
ratsbehälter 30 in Verbindung steht.

Fig. 10 zeigt die Arbeitsstellung der beweglichen.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Charging device The invention relates to a charging device for introducing a material into a space containing gases, in particular for introducing solid fuel into the melting hearth of a metallurgical furnace without harmful gases escaping from the melting hearth via the charging device.
The loading device with a piston carrying the loading material; naggregate which is arranged in a support housing provided with an inlet opening and an outlet opening so that it can be shifted tightly back and forth and can be moved between the inlet opening and the outlet opening in order to receive a material charge at the inlet opening and convey it to the outlet opening, which is connected to a passage for gases assigned to the support housing, is characterized by a pressure piston which rests tightly over the entire length of the support housing,
to prevent the flow of gas between the housing and the piston, and which is connected at its rear end to a drive cylinder, so that its front end can be moved in the longitudinal direction, from a position that is behind the inlet opening to to a location which is located in front of the outlet opening and which protrudes into the gas passage when the pressure piston is in its forward position;
by a plunger which is located in the front end of this pressure piston and is mounted so that it can move back and forth, which can be moved in a tightly sliding manner between inlet and outlet and which has a device that alternately moves the plunger at a distance from the front end of the pressure piston or applies it to the pressure piston, namely independent of the movement of the plunger, the plunger in the most retracted position of the plunger lying tightly in the housing near the inlet opening and at a distance from the front end of the plunger housing in order to form, together with the plunger, a collapsible chamber that receives the material, which is then below this inlet opening,
in order to receive the material charge and to move as a unit to the opening located in the gas passage, while the plunger in the furthest forward position of the pressure piston, when the plunger protrudes into the passage, moves from this spaced-apart position Abutment position with the front end of the pressure piston can be moved in order to push the chamber together before the pressure piston is moved out of the gas passage into the support housing, so that the piston unit, which can be moved back and forth, periodically conveys material from this inlet opening to the outlet opening without gases entering the Outside air can flow through the inlet opening.
In certain ore smelting processes, the reduction of the finely divided iron ore is brought about by bringing the ore in a reduction column into thorough contact with a reducing gas and that the reduced ore from this reduction column is preferably fed by its own weight to a melting hearth through a vertically arranged connecting pipe. In the hearth, the reduced ore is melted and separated from the gangue by heat obtained in the hearth by burning coal or other carbonaceous material with oxygen.
The molten iron is protected against reoxidation by the presence of excess carbon. Often a certain amount of unreduced ore also remains in the solids leaving the reduction column. In these cases the reduction comes to an end
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
led to the fact that a certain amount of additional carbon or other carbonaceous substances, preferably mixed with the solids from the reduction column, is added to the hearth.
To introduce the coal or the carbon-containing substances into the hearth together with the solids from the reduction column, it has proven advantageous to have a device for charging coal or the like between the lower outlet of the reduction column and the upper inlet of the melting hearth to arrange the stove. Since the hearth zone also contains a large amount of poisonous carbon dioxide gas among other harmful gases, it is also important for safety reasons to prevent carbon dioxide gases from escaping into the ambient air of the plant.
With the invention, therefore, an improved charging device is to be created which serves to feed a substance such. B. to be introduced into a reaction zone and thereby prevent the outflow of gases from this reaction zone.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing and is described below. 1 shows a partial side view of the loading device, FIG. 2 is a plan view of the loading device shown in FIG. 1, FIG. 3 is a vertical section on a larger scale along line 3-3 of FIG. 2, FIG. 4 is a horizontal section Partial section along line 4-4 of FIG. 3, FIG. 5 a vertical partial section along line 5-5 of FIG. 4, FIG. 6 a vertical partial section along line 6-6 of FIG. 4,
7 is a vertical partial section along line 7-7 in FIG. 4, FIG. 8 is a vertical partial section along line 8-8 in FIG. 3, FIG. 9 is a schematic representation of the charging device with the associated pipelines in the loading position, FIG. 10 a schematic view of the loading device with the associated pressure lines in the loading position, FIG. 11 a schematic view of the device with the associated pressure lines with the loading chamber pushed together, FIG. 12 a schematic view of the device with the associated pressure lines at the end of the loading cycle in one withdrawn position,
shortly before the loading chamber is opened, and FIG. 13 shows a schematic view of the loading device with the associated pressure lines at the start of a new cycle, when the chamber begins with an opening movement in order to receive a new loading.
The device is a reciprocating loading or loading device that holds the material located between the spaced-apart, relatively movable, chamber-forming elements and from a hopper or container to a laterally spaced discharge point moved, during the entire time a secure seal against the seepage of fluids is created between the funnel and the discharge point and furthermore the trapped or entrained gases from the discharge point back to the filling funnel through or between the elements forming the chamber cannot flow through.
The preferred embodiment of the loading device consists of a movable cylinder in one end of which there is a stationary piston, while at the other end of the movable cylinder a reciprocating pressure piston housing is attached in which a movable piston moves.
The charging device has a housing for the pressure piston which can be moved back and forth, which has spaced openings which can be brought into connection with a filling funnel or a discharge opening, the outer end of the pressure piston carrying a movable plunger around a collapsible one To form chambers from end walls, between which the charging material is received and guided by the feed funnel to a discharge point which is spaced apart in the longitudinal direction.
The charging device 10 of the preferred embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 generally consists of a stationary piston unit 11, a movable drive cylinder 12 with a pressure piston and a support housing 13 intended for the pressure piston, which at its end has an open, transverse direction Has passage 14 which carries a removable cap 14u which can be filled with water. The passage 14 is tightly connected at its upper end 15 to a pipeline 16 which starts from the discharge end of the ore reduction column (not shown). The passage 14 leads at its lower end 17 to the inlet 18 of the melting hearth (not shown).
Ouer passage 14 is preferably provided with a refractory lining 19 so that the hot gases from the hearth and the hot reduced ore solids cannot damage the support housing 13.
The supporting housing 13 accommodating the pressure piston has spaced outer walls 25 and 26 (FIG. 3) which form a jacket for the circulation of cooling water and also has an axial passage 27 running in the longitudinal direction, which tightly accommodates a pressure piston that can move back and forth, which has a pressure piston housing 28. The support housing 13 has between its ends in its upper side surface an opening with a passage 29, which is connected to the coal funnel or the front

reservoir 30 is in communication.
In a bore present near the outer end 31 of the support housing 13, a piston ring assembly 32 with several piston rings 32a is inserted, which form a seal between the support housing 13 and the movable pressure piston or pressure piston housing 28. The piston ring assembly 32 is held in its position by a retaining ring 33.
The pressure piston housing 28 has a cylindrical hollow shape and is closed at its outer end by the end flange 35 of a cylindrical cover 36 which has an axial passage 38 through which a slidable piston rod 39 extends, which is sealed in this passage 38 by a packing 34. The cover 36 also has a radially directed passage 37 which communicates with the interior of the cylinder 12 via a connection opening 37a which is radially spaced from the axial passage 38.
The cover 36 also serves as a closure for the inner end of the movable drive cylinder 12, which is arranged in axial alignment with the flange 35 of the cylindrical pressure piston housing 28 and is tightly connected to the flange 35. The drive cylinder 12 is closed at its other end by a cover 40 which has an axial passage 41 which receives the piston rod of the stationary piston unit 11 so that it can be moved back and forth and is sealed.
A piston 43 fastened to the end of the piston rod 39 ′ and a piston 44 which forms part of the stationary piston rod assembly 11 are mounted in the drive cylinder 12 so as to be movable back and forth. A rail 48 protrudes in the longitudinal direction from the lower surface of the displaceable drive cylinder 12 and rests on a support roller 49 which is rotatably mounted in a roller bracket 50.
The stationary piston rod assembly 11 consists of an inner tube 60 with a small diameter and an outer tube 70 with a large diameter, which is concentric around the tube 60, but is at a distance from the tube and at one end is firmly connected to the stationary stand 62. The outer end 63 of the tube 60 has a passage 64 which, depending on requirements, can be connected alternately to a pressure medium line or to an outlet line. The piston 44 is fixedly connected to the inner end of the tube 70 so that the tube acts as a hollow piston rod for the piston 44 and lies tightly in the end cap 40 by means of a seal which is held in the passage 41 by a packing 42.
The piston 44 also has an axially directed pipe passage 66 which establishes a pressure medium connection between the opening 64 and the interior of the cylinder 12. The outer tube 70 has, near its closed outer end 71, a pressure medium passage 72 which can be connected to a pressure medium line or to an outlet line as required. The inner end of the tube 70 has radial openings 73 which are in communication with the interior of the cylinder 12, but on the opposite side of the piston 44 from the opening 66. A flexible dust sleeve surrounds the piston rod assembly 11 and is at its opposite ends held in place by clips 76, 77.
The plunger housing 28 consists of an upper half and a lower half (Fig. 3) which are held together at the end near the passage 14 by an upright end wall 89 which protrudes integrally from the lower half and by a keyway 78 with the upper Half connected. The pressure piston housing 28 with its piston rod 39, which extends axially through the housing, has in a longitudinal slot formed in the inner end or in a guide 80 a plunger 81 which forms a chamber and which is connected to the end of the piston rod 39.
The plunger 81 has a widened end section 82 which has essentially the same diameter as the pressure piston housing 28. At a point axially spaced from the widened end section 82 and on the opposite side of the wall 89, the plunger 81 has a transverse outer end wall 83 to which the piston rod 39 is firmly connected and which is in the guide 80 slides. The axially spaced end sections 82, 83 of the plunger 81 consist of one piece with side walls 84, 85 (FIGS. 4 and 5) or are firmly connected to these side walls, which are laterally spaced from one another.
The opposite wall surfaces of the side walls 84, 85 together with the opposite wall surfaces 86, 87 of the ram end section 82 or with the end wall 89 of the plunger housing 28 form a collapsible open-end transverse chamber 88 which is rectangular and symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal axis of the vertical passage 14 is when the plunger 81 and the pressure piston housing 28 are in the advanced end position shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. The inner surfaces of the side wall sections 84, 85 run parallel to the longitudinal axis of the piston assembly 28-81.
The upper sections of the side walls 84, 85 are, however, somewhat thicker than the lower sections, so that the chamber 88 has a conical profile which widens downwards and which facilitates the discharge of the material from the chamber into the hearth zone. The upper edges of the walls 84, 85 at the upper ends of the chamber 88 have outwardly directed flared surfaces 90. The oppositely disposed end walls 86, 87, which form the end walls of the chamber 88, are rectilinear and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the transverse passage 14 .
The opposing wall surfaces 86, 87 and the circumferential contact surfaces of the piston unit 28-81 as well as the associated bore 27 are preferably precisely ground so that a perfect fit with the smallest gaps is available, so that an effective seal

against the outflow of gas and other fluids during the operation of the loading device, as will be described below.
The device works in the following way: The various stages of the work cycle of the loading device, which is shown in FIGS. 1 to 8, are shown schematically in FIGS. 9 to 13. 9 shows the working positions of the various moving parts of the loading device as well as several three-way solenoid valves 101, 102 and 103 during the material loading stage. If the charging device 10 is in the position shown in FIG. 9, in which a charging material, for example powdered coal, is received from the hopper 30,
Then the drive cylinder 12 assumes its outermost outer position or retracted position, and the movable piston 43 and the stationary piston 44 are essentially against one another at the outermost inner end or the left end of the drive cylinder 12. This position of the parts is brought about by the fact that pressurized fluid is conducted from the line P to the outside or right side of the stationary piston 44 via the solenoid valve 103 and the openings 72 and 73 in the interior of the cylinder 12, while at the same time that on the inside or Fluid located on the left side of the piston 44 is discharged via the openings 66 and 64 and the solenoid valve 102 in the outlet line E.
During this movement of the cylinder 12 to its retracted position, fluid is also drained from the inner end of the cylinder 12 via the openings 37a, 37 and the solenoid valve 101. If the cylinder 12 is in its outermost retracted position, then the piston housing 28 is also held in its outermost retracted position, while the plunger 81 is held in its outermost advanced position so that the chamber 88 is fully open and is located directly below the funnel 30, from which the coal falls into chamber 88.
Fig. 10 shows the working position of the movable. Parts in the delivery position or discharge position in which the drive cylinder 12, the pressure piston housing 28 and the ram 81 are in their advanced or inner positions. While the plunger 81 remains in its outermost advanced position, the drive cylinder 12 and the associated pressure piston 28 are moved to their advanced positions by draining the fluid from the right end of the drive cylinder 12 via the solenoid valve 103 while pressurized fluid is simultaneously fed into the Interior of the cylinder 12 is admitted between the pistons 43, 44 via the valve 102 and the associated passages.
If the pistons 43, 44 and the cylinder 12 are in the positions shown in FIG. 10, the piston housing 28 and the plunger 81 have moved the coal charge located between these parts in the chamber 88 into the transverse passage 14, whereupon the charge leaves the Chamber 88 falls into the hearth zone. Since the outer side wall surface of the pressure piston housing 28 constantly has a completely tight contact with the inner cylindrical wall surface 27 of the support housing 13, the gases flowing through the passage 14 cannot pass through this support housing into the funnel 30 and the surrounding outside air.
If, at this stage of the working cycle, the pressure piston housing 28 were pushed back out of the passage 14 with the plunger 81, which is in its advanced position, and set again below the funnel 30 in a position for receiving the next charge, an amount of gas, for example toxic Carbon dioxide, would become trapped in chamber 88 and would flow freely into funnel 30 via the passage.
To avoid this, the plunger 81 is first moved to its retracted position, as shown in FIG. 11, while the plunger housing 28 remains stationary, so that in this way the chamber located between the plunger end 82 and the end surface 87 of the plunger housing 28 is pushed together becomes. This compression is obtained (Figure 9) by supplying pressure fluid to the inside or left side of piston 43 via valve 101 and ports 37, 37a, while fluid from the central portion of cylinder 12 is supplied via ports 66, 64 and the Valve 102 pulls off.
The valve 103 is held in its closed position while the chamber 88 is being pushed together by being switched off by the pipes P and E.
While the plunger 81 is held in its retracted position in the manner described above, the pressure piston housing 28 and the adjacent end of the plunger 82 are withdrawn from the transverse passage 14 without any harmful gases being discharged at the same time.
This movement is achieved (FIG. 12) in that pressurized fluid is supplied to the outer end or the right-hand end of the cylinder 12 on the outer surface of piston 44 via valve 103 and opening 72, while pressurized fluid is simultaneously supplied via valve 101 and the Openings 37, 37a is directed to the inner side or left side of the piston 43 to hold the plunger end 82 in its retracted position. At the same time, the valve 102 allows fluid to flow out of the central portion of the cylinder 12 via the openings 66, 64.
The piston 43 now rests against the stationary piston 44, the edge of the plunger end 82 is aligned with the emptying opening of funnel 30 and the working cycle is ended.
If a new coal load is to be conveyed from the hopper 30 to the delivery point above the stove

That is, the plunger housing 28 is moved further outward (FIG. 13) by adjusting the valve 101 so that fluid is drained from the inner end or the left end of the cylinder 12 via the openings 37a, 37 and the valve 101 while pressurized fluid continues to be supplied to the outer end or the right end of the movable cylinder 12 via the valve 103 and the ports 72, 73.
The valve 102 remains in its drain position. Finally, the cylinder 12 reaches its outermost outer position or retracted position, in which the chamber 88 below the funnel 30 is completely open, as FIG. 9 shows. If the pistons 33, 34 and the cylinder 12 are in these last-mentioned positions, then the material located in the funnel 30 can flow into the open chamber 88 and the charging cycle is repeated.
The working cycle described, in which the three-way solenoid valves 101, 102 and 103 are used, which are connected to the fluid ports 37-37a, 64-66 and 72-73, respectively, are regulated by a clockwork, for example, several cam disks or eccentric guides to which electrical switches for the solemoids are assigned. A mechanical limit switch 110 (FIG. 12) indicates the completion of a cycle and sets the controls to begin the next cycle.
At the end of each cycle, the loading device, which consists of the pressure piston housing 28 and the plunger 81, comes to a standstill a short time after the limit switch 110 has been switched before it is opened to accommodate the next loading (FIG. 12). The standstill lasts until the clockwork closes a contact, whereupon the valve 101 is moved from its pressure supply position P to the outlet position E, as FIGS. 12 and 13 show.
If the loading device then shifts to the open position shown in FIG. 9, a time delay relay actuated by the main clockwork simultaneously switches these solenoid valves 102 and 103 to the positions shown in FIG. 10, and the plunger 81 pushes the loading, for example coal or other material , to the outlet end of the support housing 13 (Fig. 10).
A second time delay relay holds the loading device in the discharge position for a sufficiently long time until the loading has been emptied. Then the valve 101 changes from the outlet position to the pressure supply position and the valve 102 changes from the pressure supply position to the outlet position in order to retract the plunger end 82, whereby the chamber 88 is closed so that gases cannot be enclosed. During this stage of the working cycle, the valve 103 is moved into its closed position in order to keep the pressure piston housing 28 stationary.
A third time delay relay then sets the valve 103 so that pressure fluid is fed to the outer end of the cylinder 12 in order to retract the piston assembly 28-81 so far that it comes into contact with the limit switch 110, which resets the main clockwork so that the Work sequence is repeated.
Of course, other arrangements of limit switches and control devices, namely electrical and mechanical arrangements, can be used to carry out the aforesaid sequence of operations.
The drive cylinder 12 of the preferred embodiment described is preferably actuated by means of compressed air, which is supplied from a compressed air tank via the pressure inlet line P and is discharged via an outlet line E. In addition to air, other fluids could of course also be used, for example oil or other liquids such as are commonly used in hydraulic devices.
The piston assembly 28-81, which can be moved back and forth, can also be moved by any other suitable device over the described working cycle, that is to say not just by the assembly consisting of the double piston and movable cylinder.
The device shown here is used when charging coal to a furnace containing poisonous gases. However, the device can also be used to supply any material to a chamber or a reaction zone containing a gas, which fluid must be kept tight within the chamber or the reaction zone or the. Chamber or the reaction zone must be continuously isolated from the surrounding atmosphere.
