Device for measuring flow rates
Orifice plates, nozzles and Venturi nozzles are mainly used to measure the flow rate, about which there are many publications, especially the VDI flow rules. These devices generate a resistance in the line, which, expressed as a pressure difference (defined as differential pressure in the measurement rules), allows conclusions to be drawn about the flow rate. A common disadvantage of the nozzle and orifice is that they have to be installed in the pipeline by means of flanges.
The invention makes it possible to avoid these disadvantages in that it can be installed in an existing pipeline without having to interrupt it and provide it with additional flanges.
It is suitable for detecting liquid, vaporous and gaseous media that flow through the line.
The device according to the invention for measuring the flow rates consists of a displacement body introduced into the line, the cross section of which is adapted to the line cross section and which tapers in the direction of the material flow.
The displacement body is supported by at least one support on the inner surface of the conduit in such a way that the current flowing between the inner surface of the conduit and the surface of the displacement body receives a pressure difference that serves as a variable for determining the flow rate. The support holds the displacement body on the inner surface of the line in such a way that it can be displaced in the axial direction of the line. Means are also provided which allow the position of the displacement body to be fixed immovably.
Examples of the implementation of the invention are shown on the accompanying drawing sheets, namely show:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through a line with a device for measuring flow rates in one embodiment,
FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section of the same embodiment, perpendicular to the longitudinal section according to FIG. 1, also cut through the longitudinal axis.

4 shows a cross section through a rectangular conduit with the device in the same embodiment,
5 shows a longitudinal section through a line with a device for measuring flow rates with a hydraulic differential pressure meter,
Fig.
6 shows a longitudinal section through a line with a device for measuring flow rates with a diaphragm differential pressure meter and piezoelectric measured value display,
7 shows a section through an arrangement with the displacement measuring body in a fan suction line.
As already mentioned, FIGS. 1 and 2 represent an embodiment of the device for measuring flow rates of liquid, vaporous and gaseous media in an existing, closed line 1, which device has a displacement body 2 which is adapted in cross section to the line cross section.
For a round line (pipe) 1, the cross section of the displacement body 2 according to FIG. 3 also has a round cross-sectional shape, for a rectangular line 1 according to FIG. 4 it has a rectangular cross-sectional shape. The displacement body 2 is arranged coaxially to the line 1. In all cases it is advisable to aim for the same passage width in flat cross-sections perpendicular to the line axis.
The displacement body 2 tapers in all versions in longitudinal section. At least two supports 3 hold the displacement body 2 in a coaxial position with respect to the line 1. According to FIG. 4, if the displacement body 2 has a rectangular cross section, the support is on the line 1, expediently on its broad sides.
In the case of greater flow velocities, the supports 3 are also expediently designed with a cross section that tapers continuously in the direction of the flow. On these supports 3, the displacement bodies 2, the dimensions of which have been adapted to the existing lines, can be moved on the inner surfaces of the line in the axial direction of the line.
The supports 3 can each have a recess 6 in their longitudinal direction, in which bars 5 are displaceably guided and can be moved by means 4 to the outer ends of the supports. This allows the displacement body to be fixed in the selected position on the inner surface of the line. For example, a threaded rod 4, the axis of which is perpendicular to the guided rods 5, can be provided for this purpose. At one end, the threaded rod 4 has a conical tip, the flank of which touches one end of the guided rods 5, at its other end sits the hexagonal head 18, with which the threaded rod 4 can be rotated back and forth in the threaded guide bore 4 '.
By shifting the rods 5 are pressed outwards by the cone and thus the displacement body 2 is fixed in its position; by turning it back, it is released so that it can be shifted in the line 1.
In order to maintain the contact pressure of the rods 5 on the inner surface of the line at changing temperatures, the rods 5 can be divided and resilient bodies connected between the two parts, such as. B. the rubber buffer 7 or the metal spiral spring 8 (Fig. 1).
For better centering of the displacer, the rods 5 are provided at the outer ends with off leg pieces 10, which are perpendicular to them and are directed along the surface lines of the line 1, advantageously pointing in the direction of the center of gravity of the displacement body 2.
The displacement body 2 is preferably made of metal or plastic, e.g. B. in the pressing or in the casting process.
When measuring the flow rate of vapors, condensation is prevented in that the displacement body 2 and the surrounding line section are kept at a temperature above the dew point of a vapor to be measured by means of heating elements.
For installation in an existing line section, the inlet opening of a fan is particularly suitable, as shown in FIG. 7.
To measure the pressure difference, which is used as a variable for determining the flow rate, a pipe measuring line from a bore 11 in the center of the forehead of the flow displacement body 2, from the bore made there through the body 2 and along a support 3 through a be guided in the existing line 1 attached opening. In addition, at a point of uniform flow parallel to the surfaces of the displacement body and line, a further bore 12 is made either in the surface of the displacement body 2 or in the wall of the line 1 and the pressure prevailing there is passed through another pipe measuring line outside the line 1, where at A differential pressure meter is connected to the two measuring lines.
In Fig. 5, a further embodiment of the invention is shown. In this case, the displacement body 2 is divided into two chambers between the bore 11 and the opening 12, at a point of uniform flow between the line 1 and the displacement body 2, by a wall 19 running perpendicular to the displacement body axis. In order to measure the differential pressure between the two chambers, a pipe section 20 is let into the wall 19 coaxially to the displacement body 2. The end faces of the pipe section 20 are each closed by an elastic membrane 21. From the wall of the pipe section 20 a pipe measuring line 22 leads through the displacement body 2 and along a support through a bore made in the existing line to the outside, where it ends in a transparent riser pipe 23 with a scale.
Pipe 20, measuring line 22 and riser pipe 23 are filled with the measuring fluid 24. A fluorescent substance is added to make reading easier.
The connection between the measuring line 22 and the riser pipe 23 is made by an elastic connection piece 25 which, if necessary, is designed so that it closes the passage opening in the line 1. In cases in which such a seal of the line 1 is not sufficient, this is, as shown in Fig. 1, closed by a stuffing box. In this case, the lip seal 16 is spread apart by the press cover 15 and pressed into the groove of the base 1.
The embodiment according to FIG. 6 has an elastic membrane 26 for measuring the differential pressure in the wall 19 between the two bores 11 and 12 in the displacement body 2, the deflection of which acts on a piezoelectric crystal 26 'which is held rigidly in the holder 27 and which is generated thereon electrical voltage is passed through the body 2 via a support 3 to an electrometer E or Röh renvoltmeter, as a measure of the pressure difference and thus the flow rate.
Of course, instead of the crystal 26 ', current control elements can also be built in, which are controlled by the movement of the membrane. Such are variable ohmic resistances, variable inductances or capacitances. In the latter case, the membrane forms one capacitor layer as opposed to a rigidly arranged layer in an alternating current circuit. The rigid covering can be equipped with a protective ring to improve the proportionality of the display as a function of the deflection.
7 shows a further preferred type of installation of the device for measuring flow rates in the suction line 1 of a fan. The displacement body 2 is supported with the supports 3 on the wall at a point of unchanged cross section of the line 1. A deflection insert 27 ′ and the guide surface 28 guide the air flow through the line 1 onto the impeller 29. This is driven by the motor 31 mounted on a base 30.
