Machine for tying bundles or packages with a weldable band
The invention relates to a machine for tying bundles or packages with a weldable band.
There are known machines for tying bundles such as stacks of flat bags, newspapers or the like, with a mechanism for grasping the bundle with a binding cord and for knotting the same.
Machines are also known which place a steel band around a package and fasten the overlapping ends of the steel band to one another with a metallic clamp. For heavy packages and boxes, tying with a steel strap is quite suitable because it is solid. On the other hand, it is unsuitable for light parcels and bundles of newspapers because cutting the steel strip can only be carried out with special tools and also because such a type of packaging would be too expensive. The aim of the invention is to create a machine with which, for example, bundles of newspapers or magazines can be bound in a simple and inexpensive manner with a tape which has a coating of weldable plastic on its flat sides.
Compared to the use of cords there is the advantage that the tape does not cut into the edges of the bundle or, for example, a cardboard box and that the connection of the ends can be achieved in a simple manner by welding instead of knotting.
The machine according to the invention, in which a frame carries a horizontal table top, is characterized by a frame attached to the frame, located in a vertical plane, with a guide channel on its concave side, which frame runs in the area of the table top under an opening therein and there is one Has interruption, motor-operated means for shooting in tape from a supply over this interruption over the entire length of the guide channel and again through the interruption, then effective means for holding the front end of the tape in the interruption, while the aforementioned shooting means pull back the tape until it fully encloses a bundle or package lying within the frame on the table top, and then means that take effect,
which hold the other band section located in the interruption, separate it from the band supply and weld it to the aforementioned end of the band.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention and a variant of a tape insertion device belonging to the machine.

Fig.
10 is a cross-section on the line X-X of FIG. 9 on a larger scale.
The machine shown in FIGS. 1 to 7 for binding bundles of, for example, bags, magazines or packages or boxes has a frame 11 designed as a welded construction, which is provided with rollers 12 at the bottom. This frame carries oten a table top consisting of two individually removable sheets 13 and 14 (Fig. 3). An auxiliary frame 16, to which a rigid frame 17 is welded, is attached to two angle irons 15 belonging to frame 11. The lower side of the frame lies just below the level of the table top, which here leaves an elongated opening 18 (FIG. 3) free.
The lower side of the frame has an interruption 19, over which a tongue 20 lies, which is fastened with the help of two screws 21 (Fig. 5) on both sides of the interruption 19 to the frame parts 17a, 17b, on the left side of the Interruption where the frame part 17b is located somewhat lower, with a block 22 interposed.
The frame 17 has a guide channel 23 with a flat bottom in cross section on its concave side over the entire circumference. Over the side edges of this guide groove, the exposed edges of two elastically yielding, z. B. made of polyvinyl chloride strips 24 which are fastened to the frame 17 at certain intervals by means of screws 25 and washer strips 26.
The lower frame part 17a located to the right of the interruption 19 (in Fig. 1) has on its underside a shooting channel 27, the bottom of which is flat in cross-section and is slightly higher than the bottom of the guide channel 23 in the frame part 17b located to the left of the interruption, so that a band 28 , which is advanced along the bottom of the shooting channel 27 and was previously cut off at the end of this guide channel, after passing through the interruption 19 safely arrives in the guide channel 23 of the frame part 17b.
Before going into further details of the construction and operation of the machine, the operation is briefly outlined.
At the beginning of a work cycle, the front end of the tape with which a bundle or package is to be tied is located at the end of the shooting channel 27 at the interruption.
The tape, which comes from a supply reel, is advanced through a insertion device, namely over the entire length of the guide channel 23 of the frame 17, until its front end has passed through the interruption 19 of the frame again.
Then this front end is held by clamping on the tongue 20, whereupon the tape is drawn back along the insertion channel 27 by the device mentioned above. During this retraction, the tape passes between the opposing edges of the strips 24 attached to the frame 17 and lies snugly against the two side faces and the surface of the bundle or package P, which is indicated in FIG. 1 with dot-dash lines; On the underside of the bundle or package P, the band 28 runs taut to the tongue 20 or to the end of the insertion channel 27 located at the interruption 19. This latter part of the band is then held in the interruption 19 and then after being separated from that in the insertion channel 27 located band part is welded to the band end located under the tongue 20.
The completely tied bundle or package P can now be pushed away on the table top 13, 14, seen downwards in FIGS. 2 and 3, the welded ends of the tape sliding away under the tongue and through the opening 18, which is wider than the tongue 20 step through to put on the bundle or package. When the ends of the tape are welded to one another, when they slide away from the tongue 20, they hit a sensing arm of a switch which, when it closes, initiates the next functional cycle.
The particulars of the various devices will now be entered.
As can be seen from FIGS. 1 and 2, a bearing 29 is attached to the angle iron 15 of the frame 11, in which a support shaft 30 for a tape supply reel 31 is rotatably mounted. The drive is transmitted by friction from the shaft 30 to the hub of the supply reel. The tape 28 coming from the supply reel is guided around a deflection roller 32 which is mounted on a block 33. This is attached to the lower part of the frame 11. Between it and a wedge 34 on which a screw acts, a channel 35 is clamped at its lower end. The upper end of this channel opens out onto the shooting device.
The latter includes a drum 36 which has a circumferential groove with a rough piston with a flat cross-section. The belt 28 is pressed by an endless belt 37 over a large part of the circumference of the drum against the bottom of this circumferential groove; the belt runs over three deflection rollers 38, 39 and 40. The axis 41 of the deflection roller 38 is firmly inserted in a swivel frame 100 mounted on the auxiliary frame 16 by means of the axis 45; the roller 39 and a pair of arms 44 carrying the axle 43 of the roller 40 are mounted on the auxiliary frame 16 by means of an axle 101.
The swivel frame 100 carries a screw 45 which presses on the arm pair 44 by means of a spring 45 to tension the belt 37. A rod 102 carries a screw 103 which acts on a crosspiece 104 of the swivel frame 100 in order to press the belt 37 onto the drum 36 After loosening the screw 103, the rod 102 can be lifted out of incisions in the auxiliary frame 16 in order to enable the pivoting frame 100 to be folded down when a new band 28 is introduced into the containment channel 27.
The drum 36 is firmly seated on a shaft 47 which rotates in a bearing 48, is in drive connection with the shaft 30 through a chain gear 49 and is connected to the shaft 51 of an electric motor 52 which can be reversed in direction of rotation by a multi-plate clutch 50 of known design.
A clamping lever 53 is used to hold the front end of the band 28, and is mounted on an axle bolt 55 together with another clamping lever 54. This is fastened in a U-iron 56 belonging to the frame 11. The clamping levers 53 and 54 have at one end a clamping beak 53a or 54a (FIGS. 5 and 7) projecting into the interruption 19 of the frame 17. At their other end, the rods 58 and 59, which are adjustable in length, are connected to the armature 60 and 61 of electromagnets 62 and 63, the coil bodies of which are attached to the base of a support bracket 64, the legs of which are screwed to the U-iron 56 are.
The bobbin of an electromagnet 66 is attached to a plate 65 belonging to the frame 11, to the armature 67 of which a piston 68 is attached, which is guided in a bearing 69 attached to the U-iron 56 so as to be longitudinally displaceable in the vertical direction. At its upper end, this piston 68 carries a knife 70 which works together with the frame part 17a to separate the strip section located in the interruption 19 from the strip section located in the insertion channel 27; the piston 68 also carries a high-frequency welding electrode 71, which is connected by two lead wires 72 to a high-frequency generator of a known type, not shown.
This welding electrode is used to weld the tape section held between the beaks 53a, 54a of the clamping levers 53, 54 and previously separated by the knife 70 from the tape section located in the insertion channel 27 to the tape end, which is held by the beak 53a in cooperation with the tongue 20 is.
A clamping bar 73 engages in the shooting channel 27, which is secured against longitudinal displacement on two bolts 74 and is connected to a leaf spring 77 by means of a pair of plates 75 fastened to it and a pair of bolts 76 inserted in the latter.
The latter is inserted at one end into a bolt 78 mounted on the auxiliary frame 16 and engages with its other end between two bolts 79 which are inserted in a holder 80 which is firmly seated on the piston 68. During the upward movement of the piston 68, the clamping bar 73 is pressed by means of the leaf spring 77 against the band section located in the insertion channel 27 in order to hold the latter in place before it is separated by the knife 70 from the band section located in the interruption 19.
The sensing arm mentioned above, which is actuated by the tape ends welded to one another when the tied bundle or package P is pushed away, is shown in FIG. 7 and designated 81. The fine switch 82, which is then closed by this sensor arm, is also shown there. The closure of this switch causes a small synchronous motor 83 (Fig. 2), which forms part of a commercially available switching device 84, in which this motor then rotates a shaft that carries a plurality of cam disks 85 through a full revolution, the individual cam disks cause the associated contacts 86 to open and close.
Through these contacts, the operating times of the electric motor 52 when shooting in and pulling back the tape, the electromagnets 62 and 63 which actuate the clamping levers 53, 54, the electromagnet 66 which brings about the upward movement of the cutting knife 70 and the welding electrode 71, and the supply of the welding electrode 71 feeding high frequency generator controlled. The action times are shown in FIG. The time 0 is the one at which the fine switch 82 is closed by means of the sensing arm 81 when a new bundle or bundle to be tied is pushed in and the bundle or bundle that has just been tied is pushed away at the same time.
If the cam disks 85 are designated by numbers 1, 2, 3, etc., it can be seen from FIG. 8 that the electric motor 52 first operates for a certain period of time which is calculated so that the leading end of the tape after passing through the interruption 19 , the entire length of the guide channel 23 and again the interruption 19 in the desired position at the left-hand (Fig. 5) end of the tongue 20 comes to a standstill. Then the electromagnet 62, the excitation of which is controlled by the cam disk No. 2, actuates the clamping lever 53 with the upper clamping jaw 53a, which remains in function until the end of the cycle.
Immediately thereafter, the cam disk No. 3 causes the rotation of the motor 52 in the opposite direction for a predetermined period of time which is such that the band 28 is tensioned tightly around the bundle P, even if the latter has a very small circumference. During a time, which varies from case to case depending on the circumference of the bundle, from the end of the tensioning of the belt to the stop of the motor, the clutch 50 slips, transmitting the maximum torque. Provided that there is no sliding between the drum 36 and the belt 28 pressed against the bottom of the circumferential groove by the belt 37, this maximum torque is a measure of the retraction force that can be exerted on the belt 28.
It is therefore up to you to influence the retraction force or the tightness of the band surrounding the package by a suitable choice or setting of this maximum torque. In FIG. 8, the time, which varies depending on the size of the package, during which the clutch 50 slips when the motor 52 is running in reverse, is indicated by a dashed section of the line assigned to the cam disk no.
Shortly before the reverse rotation of the motor 52 is switched off, i.e. before the exertion of the retraction force on the belt 28 is stopped, the action of the cam disk No. 4 on the contact assigned to it energizes the electromagnet 63 so that the one in the interruption 19 is energized Band section is pressed by the beak 54a against the underside of the beak 53a and thus held. Shortly afterwards, the action of the cam disc No. 5 on the contact assigned to it energizes the electromagnet 66 and thus moves the piston upwards.
At the beginning of this upward movement, the leaf spring 77 presses the clamping bar 73 against the section of the tape 28 resting on the bottom of the insertion channel 27 and immediately afterwards this tape section is separated by the knife 70 from the section of the tape 28 extending through the interruption 19. In the last part of the upward movement, this last-named strip section is pressed by the electrode 71 against the strip end resting on the underside of the tongue 20. Immediately thereafter, the action of cam disk no. 6 on the contact assigned to it energizes the high-frequency generator serving to feed the welding electrode 71, i.e. the overlapping strip ends are welded together. The functional cycle ends after about 21 seconds.
At any later point in time, the wrapped package can be pushed away and replaced by one to be wrapped, the switch 82 actuated via the sensing arm 81 during such a displacement initiating a new functional cycle.
A normally open switch 87 (FIG. 1), which can be actuated manually, is arranged in parallel with the contact assigned to the cam disk no. 1. This switch is switched on when replacing an exhausted supply reel 31 with a new one, so that a length of tape is unwound from the latter by rotating the motor 52 forward, which extends over the pulley 32 to the upper end of the guide channel 35; After the tape has been picked up by the insertion device 36, 37, the switch 87 is switched on again and left on until the front end of the newly inserted tape reaches into the interruption 19 of the frame 17.
9 and 10 show a variant of the tape insertion and retraction device shown in FIG. At a certain distance below the part 17a of the frame 17, a belt pulley 90 is arranged, which is fixed on a shaft 91 which, like the shaft 47, is mounted and driven via a slip clutch 50 by the reversible electric motor 52. On two pairs of screw bolts 92 fastened in the frame part 17a, a carrier consisting of the angle iron 93 is guided so that it can move vertically. Four belt pressure rollers 94 are rotatably mounted on this, of which the two outer ones also serve as deflection rollers for the belt 95. The pressing force is supplied by four springs 96 which are arranged on the screw bolts 93 and are supported on the wing nuts 97.
The bottom of the shooting channel 27 is formed by a strip 98 made of polytetrafluoroethylene or a similar material which is fastened to the frame part 17a and which has high wear resistance and good sliding properties. This measure is taken so that there is no sliding between the tape 28 to be inserted or withdrawn on the one hand and the belt 95 on the other hand, and so that the frictional heat caused by the sliding of the tape on the bottom of the insertion channel 27 is as low as possible.
In this variant, too, after the retraction and tensioning of the tape is complete, the motor continues to run for a short period of time so that the lower beak 54a securely holds the tape section located in the interruption 19, with the multi-plate clutch 50 slipping again after the tensioning until the motor stops .
If you want to reduce the time during which the slip clutch 50 of the main exemplary embodiment or the variant just described slips to a minimum, the energizing of the electromagnets 62, 66 and the high-frequency generator feeding the welding electrodes can be done in the order described above, but the The start of the sequence can be controlled, for example, by an overcurrent relay that responds to the feed current consumed by the motor 52, more precisely to the increase in this feed current that occurs when the motor has to deliver the torque required to generate the full belt tensioning force.
As soon as the belt spans the package enough, the lower beak 54a starts holding the belt section located in the interruption 19 with a slight delay, whereupon the motor 52 is immediately switched off, then the electromagnet 66 is switched on to lift the piston 68 and finally the the high-frequency generator feeding the electrode 71 is switched on, in the meantime the set of cam disks of the control unit returning to its starting position. In this case, No. 1 and No. 2 cams operate as described above, whereas No. 3 cam only determines the start of reverse rotation of the motor, and No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 cams become unnecessary.
