EMI2.1
Method for compensating the influence of the
Temperature dependence of the refractive index of the liquid of liquid wedges when used in optical beam paths and
Compensation device for carrying out this process
Optical arrangements in the telescope or in the reading beam path of theodolites, levels and other optical measuring instruments are known in which liquid wedges are used as refractive and / or reflective members, the property of such liquid wedges that their liquid surface is always automatically in the horizon, is used to make the function of such devices to determine directions relative to the horizon, independent of the leveling of the device.
If the leveling of the device is changed or if the device deviates from its precisely leveled position, the wedge angle of this liquid wedge and thus its visual effect change. This fact is used to control the beam path in question in the sense correcting the leveling error.
However, since the refractive index of liquids is relatively strongly dependent on their temperature, such optical arrangements with liquid wedge are temperature-dependent in their effect. This disadvantage can be remedied by the invention.
The invention relates to a method for compensating for the error-causing influence of the temperature dependency of the refractive index of the liquid of liquid wedges when used in optical beam paths, according to which the influence of the change in the refractive index of the liquid of the liquid wedge with a temperature change by changing the focal lengths two lens elements arranged on both sides of the liquid wedge is compensated as a function of the temperature change while the image location is kept constant.
The change in the focal length of the lens elements can be made in a manner known per se for lenses with variable focal lengths.
The invention also relates to a compensation device for performing this method with at least one liquid wedge which is arranged between the two members of a double lens, each having at least two lenses, which is characterized in that the mutual position of the lenses of the two members of the double lens in Axial direction is adjustable, and that an adjustment device is provided,
by means of which the position of the lenses of the two members of the double objective can be changed for the purpose of changing the refractive index of the liquid of the liquid wedge in the event of a temperature change compensating change in the focal length of the two members of the double objective.
1 of the drawing shows, for example, an optical arrangement with a liquid wedge arranged in the telescope or in the circular reading beam path of an optical measuring instrument (not shown) when the measuring instrument is exactly horizontal, and FIG. 2 shows the same optical arrangement when the measuring instrument is not in a horizontal position. With reference to these FIGS. 1 and 2, the considerations on which the invention is based and the method according to the invention are explained below, for example.
The optical arrangement shown has a double objective with two symmetrical members 1 and 0 ', which each consist of a positive lens 1 or 1' and a negative lens 2 or 2 'and between which the beam path 3 is parallel. A point j of a division T is imaged by this double objective 0, O1 on the point A 'of the image plane B, in the parallel beam path 3 between the members 0 and 2 of the double objective a liquid wedge F is arranged. whose free liquid surface is always in the horizon, regardless of the inclination of the measuring instrument.
In the precisely leveled position of the optical measuring instrument, not shown in the drawing, assumed in FIG. 1, in whose telescope or circular reading beam path this optical arrangement is provided, the wedge angle of the liquid wedge F is zero and the parallel beam path 3 passes through it uninterrupted .
If, on the other hand, the measuring instrument is inclined by the angle v according to FIG. 2, the wedge angle of the liquid keitskeiles F is no longer equal to zero, but equal to v.
This has the effect that the parallel beam 3 is deflected by the liquid wedge F and overfilled into the likewise parallel beam path 3 ′. The angle (p between corresponding rays of the beam path 3 and the beam path 3 'is a function of the inclination n and the refractive index nF of the liquid of the liquid wedge F, and it is? = K1 (nF). V, where k1 (nF) is a function of the refractive index nF For the arrangement according to FIG. 1, k1 = (nF-1).
For arrangements with two or more liquid wedges and those in which reflections also occur, ka is a different function of nF and thus also ç a different function of the inclination v and the refractive index tIF-
The construction and the mode of operation of the entire measuring instrument, not shown further, is such that the amount l by which the image A 'must shift with any device inclination v to A "so that the device inclination v has no influence on the function or is compensated is given by I = cv, where c is a design constant.
This results in the focal length f2 of the link O of the double lens as' <() 'The focal length f1 of the link 0 of the double lens depends on the image scale of the image from the point A of the division T to A' in the image plane B.
If with this arrangement the refractive index nu of the liquid in the liquid wedge F changes as a result of a temperature change by J / IF, then I also changes by d l, namely? L = f2. ?? /? nF. ? nF, but should be constant if temperature changes should have no influence on the function of the instrument.
This can be achieved by automatically or manually controlled as a function of the temperature. f2 varies so that
J / = 0 = /, -. + F) /! P. This results in the compensation condition
EMI2.1
Since the image scale should remain unchanged from A to A ', f1 must also change by? F1, such that A fi /? F2 = / f2.
The change in the focal lengths f1 and f2 of the elements O1 and Og of the double objective can be carried out in a known manner by changing the position of the positive and negative lenses I and 2 or 1 'and 2' which belong to one another, the image location remaining constant got to. An adjusting device, not shown in the drawing, is provided, by means of which these lenses can be axially displaced in a corresponding ratio. This setting device can be designed for manual operation by the user of the measuring instrument or an automatically acting setting device that responds to temperature changes, e.g. B. be such on the bimetal principle.
If necessary, two or more liquid wedges can also be provided. In the case of beam paths that are not straight, the compensation device can also be used, instead of a liquid wedge penetrated by the beam path and deflecting it, a liquid wedge on whose liquid surface the parallel beam is reflected.
