The present invention relates to devices used to move, temporarily or not, a section of railroad track whose rails are fixed to the sleepers. , devices which are applicable to construction machines such as lifters, skidders, graders, straighteners, etc., which include members for gripping the assembled track.
Many kinds of rail clamps have been proposed from the origin of railways to the present day, which shows that this seemingly simple problem presents serious difficulties to those skilled in the art, depending on the conditions imposed. .
When it is specially required that the track entered is automatically centered with respect to the support frame, the use of two independently operating rail clamps is obviously excluded. Also excluded are all so-called track clamps which simultaneously grip the two rails, but which allow the track to swing relative to the frame, or which fix it in an eccentric position.
In the category of track clamps which meet the mentioned requirement, devices are known which include two rail clamps connected by a complicated, manually operated linkage. But these known clamps have the serious drawback of not automatically adapting to the largest variations in spacing found on a laid track.
The present invention relates to a hook device for gripping a section of railroad track, with a view to lifting and / or sliding it, of the type comprising two rail hooks mounted in opposition, pivoted on a frame transverse to the track and mechanically connected to each other, and pressurized fluid means, to actuate these hooks.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that the aforesaid mechanical connection between the hooks consists of a single rigid body articulated at its two ends, which are located one above and the other below the points. of pivoting hooks and at substantially equal distances, to ensure quasi-symmetry of the movement of the hooks relative to the frame and that of the position of these hooks when they are in engagement with the rails.
The appended drawing represents, by way of examples and schematically, three embodiments of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front view, in cross section with respect to the track, of a first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the second embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the third embodiment.
To avoid repetitions and lengths, the corresponding parts of the three examples illustrated by the drawing have been designated by the same reference numerals.
In fig. 1 is seen in section the two rails 1a and 1b assembled on a cross member 2 by standard 3 lag bolts. A vehicle - not shown because it is not essential for understanding the invention - supports a frame that can be moved at will and simply represented by a plate 5, the base of which makes it possible at the same time to illustrate the lower limit of the rail gauge to be observed. This frame can be supported by two jacks bearing on the ballast, as shown in phantom in FIG. 1. These cylinders, oblique, ensure lifting and shifting.
On 5 are articulated in 6a and 6b two hooks 7a, respectively 7b, whose beaks 8a, respectively 8b, arranged facing each other, can come engage under the head of the respective rails 1a and 1b. A bar 9 is articulated at 10a on 7a, and at 10b on 7b. The joints 6a and 6b are located at the same height above the rails and in line with them, while 10a is below and 10b above this level. The distance between 6a and 10a is substantially equal to the distance between 6b and 10b.
The drawing clearly shows that the two hooks are thus forced to pivot in the opposite direction to each other and, with a judicious choice of dimensions, it is also possible to impose on the nozzles 8a and 8b almost symmetrical movements.
In fig. 1, we also see a pressurized fluid cylinder consisting of a cylinder 11 articulated at 12 on the mentioned frame 5, and by the sliding piston 13, the rod 14 of which pivots at 15 on 7b. When the fluid, oil, air, etc., coming from any external source - not shown - is introduced under pressure through the pipe 16 into the chamber 17 of the cylinder, the other chamber 18 being connected to the exhaust by the conduit 19 of 11, the jack shortens, which opens the clamp. Its closure is obtained by permutation of the inlet and the outlet of the fluid.
A first important advantage of the hook device described is that it automatically adapts equally well to an under-gauge as well as to an over-gauge of the track, while maintaining correct transverse centering.
In addition, a given device can be used without any change for a wide range of different spacings, which not only favors series construction, but also site use.
In addition, the hooks can be brought back inside the rail gauge in almost symmetrical positions, which reduces the strokes to a minimum and easily makes it possible to avoid raising the frame, even fitted with long hooks (position indicated in dotted lines on the fig. 1).
Another advantage still; a single locking is sufficient in the raised position, which, combined with a simple and quick operation, offers maximum safety for walking at high speed.
Safety also in operation due to the fact that the closing and opening of the clamp can be positively controlled, which best guarantees the engagement and unhooking of the hooks, in particular in the presence of ballast.
If, during closing, an abnormal obstacle however lifts one of the hooks above the rail while the other hook is engaged, the clamp does not tighten and the track cannot be lifted under any circumstances, but all at the most ripped. Now, it is known that a track raised on its ballast bed can only be lowered with great difficulty as a result of the stones which slip under the sleepers, which is not the case for skidding. This safety is especially important for grapples of lifters and graders.
Considerable advantage, the hook device described is of multiple uses. We will limit ourselves to mentioning a few examples and particularities. Its symmetrical operation makes it possible to locate any organ or arrangement, for example measuring, with respect to the median plane of the track. The nozzles 8a and 8b can then be replaced by simple lateral feelers, and the frame 5 is made mobile on its support according to the transverse inclination of the track to serve as a marker or a control member.
Arranged on a skidder, the frame 5 is forced to move in the direction which has just been specified. It is immediately noted that the shifting force is then transferred to the level of the slats 8a or 8b, which greatly reduces the tipping moment of the track - retained by the ballast at the level of the sleepers - and best attenuates its harmful effects on transverse leveling. Things are visibly improved by extending the hooks to the underside of the rail pads.
Arranged on a lifter or leveler, the device described makes it possible in particular to lift a sloping track following the vertical. The frame 5 is then guided in this direction and the oblique component of the self-weight of the track then corresponds to a sliding force.
It goes without saying that combined machines, such as lifters, etc. can benefit from all these advantages to which we can add many more, simplicity, price, etc.
The embodiment according to fig. 2 differs from that which has just been described by the following characters: The hooks 20a, 20b grip the rails la, lb from the inside. The jack 11 is fixed to the plate 5 at 6a and its rod 14 is articulated to the hook 20b at 10b, that is to say at the same place as that where the bar 9 is articulated.
In this example, plate 5 can be used as a track position indicator. Use is made here of the fact that the hooks 20a, 20b center the plate 5 automatically with respect to the axis of symmetry 21 of the track. To this end, the plate 5 is provided with targets 22a, 22b for remote reading and it rests by rollers 23a, 23b on the rails la, lb.
The embodiment illustrated in FIG. 5 differs from the previous ones by the following provisions. On each hook 30a, 30b coming to press on the internal side of the rails, a second hook 31a, 31b pivots which rests towards the outside of the head of the rail and which is constantly biased by a spring 50a , 50b, up to the limit permitted by a stop 51a, 51b - integral with 31a, 31b - which can come to rest against 30a, 30b. In this example two jacks 32a, 32b pivot at 33 on the plate 5. The rods 34a, 34b of these jacks pivot on the second hooks 31a, 31b. The connecting bar 9 ensures synchronization and quasi-symmetry of the movements of the two hooks 30a, 30b.
On closing, the hooks 30a, 30b bear against the inner face of the rails 1a, 1b. The jacks 32a, 32b, continuing to lengthen, then press the hooks 31a, 31b against the upper face of the pinion chamfer of the rails la, lb. The rails are currently held to their mushrooms between the hooks 30a, 30b and 31a, 31b. These hooks thus form two locking clamps.
The hooks and jaws can be arranged to come into contact with any part of the rails, fishplates, etc.
The distance between 6a and 6b can be different from the distance. For example, if it is weak enough in an external clamp, it can be made self-tightening. It is the opposite in an internal clamp.
Bar 9 schematically represents a single rigid body which can be produced in several integral parts.
The lower articulation 10a can be located approximately at the level of the rails, which decreases the force to be transmitted by the bar 9.
The actuating cylinder can be articulated between any two of the four parts 5, 7a, 7b and 9, by suitably choosing the pivots according to the required conditions.
It has been indicated in dotted lines in FIG. 1 two oblique jacks provided to act obliquely on the frame 5, in parallel directions, to produce the sliding of the track.
