Projectile intended to be launched by hand The present invention relates to a projectile intended to be launched by hand, characterized in that it comprises an elongated body, hooking means located at the rear end of this body, and a flexible link releasably retained by said hooking means and intended to be held by the hand at the same time as said body, this link serving to provide an additional impulse to the projectile when the hand releases said body.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the projectile which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view partially in longitudinal section of this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view.
The projectile shown is constituted by an arrow intended to be launched by hand using a flexible link as will be described below. This arrow comprises an elongated body of aerodynamic shape, formed of two hollow parts 1 and 2, for example in a molded plastic material, fitted onto an intermediate connecting piece 3. Part 1 could be provided with a steel tip or the like.
The rear end of the boom has a tail formed by guide fins 4 detachably attached to a split cylindrical support 5, one end of which is removably connected to the rear end of part 2 by interlocking. A groove 6 is formed between the support 5 and said rear end of part 2 and serves to retain the flexible link 7 serving as propulsion means.
This flexible link 7, for example, made of string and of a material such as nylon, is passed through the groove 6 and crossed over its end provided with a retaining knot 8 as shown in FIG. 1. The other end of the string has a loop 9 intended to be retained between the first and the second phalanx of the index 10 of the shooter's hand.
For launching the arrow described, the shooter's hand grasps the tip of the arrow between the thumb and forefinger 10 as shown in FIG. 2, by stretching the string 7 hooked in the groove 6. When the hand releases the arrow after having moved the arm, the latter continues its throwing movement by acting on the string which gives the arrow an additional impulse. Thanks to this impulse, the arrow can be launched to a much greater distance than that obtained by the launch by hand without string.
Indeed, by using this string, the propulsion time is increased and, the force exerted on the projectile as well as the mass of the latter remaining unchanged in both cases, it is the speed of the projectile which increases, therefore its scope. This can be verified theoretically by the relation F.t = m.voùFestlaforce in kg t time m. v the momentum or momentum (mass X speed) To increase the weight of the boom, the hollow point can be filled with ballast, for example, sand.
A flexible elastic link could also be used by initially stretching this link to increase the acceleration of the arrow at the start.
On the other hand, instead of the groove 6 such as that shown, one could form a groove, a ball or the like in the part 2 or in the support 5 of the fins. In a variant, this method of attaching the flexible link 7 could, for example, be achieved by fixing it to the rear end of a projection inclined towards the rear to form with this end a V in which the end of the link 7 provided with the node 8. The plastic material of the projectile could also be replaced by any other moldable material, whether metallic or not.
Although the projectile described is constituted by an arrow, it could also be constituted by a javelin or a lance.
An advantage of the described jib is that it is easily removable and that the spare parts can be placed in a compact pocket, which is particularly important when the jib is used as a play item for camping, for example.
