Hand-lever-operated lubricant press with venting device The present invention relates to a hand-lever-operated lubricant press with venting device, which press has a pressure chamber closed by a piston, into which the piston sucks the lubricant through a check valve during the loading stroke.
In such presses it happens that the lubricant is not filled into the reservoir supplying the pressure chamber in a completely compact manner, but that the grease supply in this container contains air inclusions. When operating the press, it happens that instead of a compact amount of grease, such an air bubble is sucked into the pressure chamber. During the subsequent pressure stroke of the piston, in which a certain amount of lubricant is to be ejected under high pressure, only the air that is sucked in is mainly compressed in the pressure chamber without the required ejection pressure even being reached.
In order to counter this difficulty, one has so far provided a vent channel leading directly to the outside of the pressure chamber, which was closed on the outside with a screw cap, for example. If, when operating the press, the presence of an air bubble in the pressure chamber was determined, the closure of the ventilation channel had to be opened and the air had to be expelled through the channel by actuating the piston. However, this manipulation is somewhat cumbersome. Above all, it also has the disadvantage that a certain amount of grease always escapes through the ventilation channel, which contaminates the outside of the press.
The lubricant press according to the invention with venting device is characterized in that the outlet opening from the pressure chamber is designed as a valve, the valve body of which is inevitably actuated by the piston or a part connected to it at the end of the pressure stroke against the force of a spring in the sense of opening the valve.
An embodiment of the subject invention will be described below with reference to the drawing, which represents a section through a high pressure grease gun.
The grease reservoir 1 and the lubrication nozzle 3 to which the discharge channel 4 leads are inserted into the press head 2. The press head 2 contains the pressure chamber 7, which is connected to the storage container 1 via the check valve 8. The pressure chamber 7 is completed by a piston 6 which is displaceable in the chamber 7 with the aid of the hand lever 5; Piston 6 and lever 5 are shown in the end position after the loading stroke has been completed, in which the pressure chamber volume is greatest.
The outlet opening 9 from the pressure chamber is designed as a valve in that the ball 10 serving as the valve body is pressed against the bore 9 by means of the pretensioned compression spring 11.
During the loading stroke, a compact amount of fat is normally sucked into the chamber 7 through the non-return valve 8 through the piston moving to the left. During the subsequent pressure stroke, the piston 6 is pressed to the right by the hand lever 5. The pressure generated in the chamber 7 overcomes the force of the spring 11 on the ball 10, so that the grease in the pressure chamber 7 is pressed out through the discharge channel 4 and the lubrication nozzle 3.
If, on the other hand, air is sucked from the reservoir 1 into the pressure chamber 7 during the loading stroke instead of a compact amount of fat, it is initially compressed in the chamber 7 during the pressure stroke without the pressure being able to overcome the spring 11. Towards the end of the pressure stroke, however, the pin 12 protruding from the face of the piston 6 hits the ball 10 and pushes it to the right, so that the valve is forcibly opened and the air compressed in the chamber 7 through the opening 9 into the discharge channel 4 can escape. The pin 12 must of course have a smaller diameter than the bore 9.
In lubricant presses of this type, a non-return valve is normally seen in the discharge channel, which absorbs external counter pressures. In the present case, the valve 9, 10, 11 itself is formed as a check valve against external counter pressures, so that a separate check valve can be used.
Of course, other designs of the outlet opening and the valve are also conceivable, in which case a special part on the piston 6, such as the pin 12, can be omitted. For example, a ball valve arranged radially to the piston 6 could be provided, the ball of which protrudes slightly into the pressure chamber 7 in the closed position so that it is pushed back at the end of the pressure stroke by the front edge of the piston, the valve opening. The arrangement described ensures, if necessary, the automatic venting of the pressure chamber with each piston stroke. It requires little effort and avoids contamination of the press with escaping lubricant.
