Locking device for analytical or microbalances
Analytical and microbalances are known which use an asymmetrical balance beam. This has a counterweight on its one longer balance beam arm; the shorter balance beam arm is provided with the only outer cutting edge. When a weighing is carried out, the central cutting edge of this asymmetrical balance beam is placed on an abutment so that the balance beam can pivot around the central cutting edge.
The hanger, which carries both the weighing pan and the switching weights, sits on the outer cutting edge. To protect the cutting edge of the balance beam from damage, a locking device is provided which, in its locking position, lifts the central cutting edge of the balance beam from the abutment and the hanger from the outer edge of the balance beam.
The previously common locking devices for analytical and microbalances with asymmetrical balance beams generally use a single slide which is placed on the balance frame and which can be moved in at least an approximately perpendicular direction. On this slide there are three lifting devices which, in the raised position of this slide, lift the hanger from the outer edge of the balance beam. The slide has three further lifting members, which engage the balance beam from below in such a way that its central cutting edge is also lifted from the abutment, provided the slide is in the raised position.
In order to reliably support the balance beam, two of the last-mentioned lifting devices attack the longer balance beam arm in the vicinity of the counterweight, while the third of these lifting devices supports the shorter balance beam arm in the vicinity of the outer edge from below. The balance beam is not only locked, but also completely relieved from a mechanical point of view.
It has now been shown that in analytical and microbalances of this type, after each actuation of the locking device to release the balance beam, a slowly decaying change in the zero point position of the balance beam occurs, which has a disruptive effect on quick and accurate weighings. The present invention is based on the knowledge that this disturbance phenomenon is based on the change in the mechanical load on the balance beam arms that occurs each time the locking device is actuated, the unavoidable hysteresis losses and possibly also elastic after-effects in the balance beam causing the disturbing zero point fluctuations. The purpose of the present invention is to overcome these shortcomings.
Accordingly, the invention is concerned with a locking device for analytical or microbalances with an asymmetrical balance beam having a counterweight, wherein in the release position of the locking device the center cutting edge of this balance beam sits on an abutment attached to the balance frame and the hanger provided with the balance pan and the switching weights on the only outer edge of the balance beam is deposited, while in the locking position of the locking device, the balance beam rests on a plurality of lifting members and the hanger rests on a plurality of lifting members, so that the central cutting edge of the balance beam is lifted from the abutment and the hanger is lifted from the outer edge of the balance beam.
The locking device according to the invention is characterized in that, in the locking position of the locking device, the asymmetrical balance beam rests exclusively on two lifting organs that attack from below in the vicinity of its central cutting edge, and that the balance beam arm provided with the outer cutting edge is attached to one in the vicinity of its outer cutting edge from above The restraint member engages here and holds back this balance arm against the action of the counterweight attached to the other balance arm arm so that the hanger also rests on the lifting elements assigned to it and is lifted off the outer cutter.
An embodiment of the present invention is shown schematically in the drawing, all parts of the balance that are not absolutely necessary for understanding the invention are not illustrated in more detail for reasons of clarity. In the drawing shows:
1 shows a side view of the locking device and of the asymmetrical balance beam, the locking position of the locking device being illustrated.
2 shows a front view of the locking device and of the shorter balance beam arm at the point 2-2 in FIGS. 1 and
3 shows a section through the locking device and through the balance beam at position 3-3 in FIG. 1.
In contrast to FIG. 1, FIGS. 2 and 3 show the release position of the locking device, and only the upper parts of the locking device are illustrated.
The asymmetrical balance beam consists mainly of an upright plate-shaped part 4, which forms the two balance beam arms 5 and 6. The longer balance beam arm 6 is provided with a counterweight 7 and with a reticle 8, which the latter is used to read the respective inclination of the balance beam. Two rigid and laterally protruding blade supports 9 and 10 are attached to the plate-shaped part 4 of the balance beam, the central blade 11 (Fig. 3) protruding from the underside of the blade support 10 and the outer blade 12 (Fig. 2) protruding from the top of the blade support 9 . The cutting edge support 9 also has a bearing 13 which is attached to the shorter balance beam arm 5 near the center of the outer cutting edge 12 and slightly offset towards the center cutting edge 11.
The upper surface of this bearing 13 (FIG. 1) should be at least approximately at the level of the cutting edge of the outer cutting edge 12. In a corresponding manner, the cutter support 10 has two bearings 14 and 15 - (FIG. 3), which each adjoin one end of the central cutter 11 and extend at least approximately at the level of the cutter edge of the central cutter 11.
The hanger that can be placed on the outer cutter 12 has a plate-shaped abutment 16 which protrudes from the underside of an intermediate piece 17 according to FIG. On the upper side of the intermediate piece 17, a connecting bracket 18 is articulated in a known manner by means of a point bearing 19 so that it can pivot about an axis which extends transversely to the longitudinal direction of the outer cutter 12. In FIG. 2, the connecting bracket 18 is not illustrated for reasons of clarity. Finally, at the lower end of the connecting bracket 18, the likewise usual support rod 20 is articulated, on which both the weighing pan and the shift weights hang. The scale pan, the switching weights and the related other suspension means located on the support rod 20 are not shown in the drawing, and the support rod 20 is only shown broken away.
From the balance frame only the fixed column 21 is shown, which has the abutment 22 at its upper cranked end, on which the center cutting edge 11 of the balance beam 4 to 6 rests in the release position of the locking device, as shown in FIG.
The locking device has a slide 23 which is guided in parallel with the aid of two leaf springs 24 and 25 fastened on one side of the column 21 and is movable in the vertical direction. The upper end of this slide protrudes over the shorter balance beam arm 5 (FIG. 2) and is provided with a retaining member 26 pointing downwards. In the locked position, this retaining member 26 presses from above on the bearing 13 attached to the shorter balance beam arm 5, so that the position illustrated in FIG. 1 results. Furthermore, the locking device has a further slide 27, which is also guided in parallel from the column 21 by means of two leaf springs 28 and 29 and is movable in the vertical direction. The further slide 27 has a plate-shaped head piece 30 which extends completely below the balance arm 4 to 6.
On the head piece 30 of the slide 27 three upwardly projecting and upwardly pointed lifting members 31 to 33 are attached, which in the locking position of the locking device engage in guides attached to the underside of the intermediate piece 17 and the intermediate piece 17 - and thus also the entire hanger 16 to 20 - lift off the outer edge 12 of the balance beam 4 to 6. Furthermore, the head piece 30 of the slide 27 has two further lifting members 34 and 35 which protrude upward and are pointed at the top. These are arranged so that they correspond to the bearings 14 and 15 and can engage in the guides of these bearings from below.
In the locking position of the locking device (Fig. 1), the balance beam 4 to 6 is accordingly raised by means of the two lifting members 34 and 35 on both sides of the ends of its central cutting edge 11 so that the central cutting edge 11 is raised sufficiently far from the abutment 22. No other lifting devices are provided for the balance beam 4 to 6. Since, in particular, the longer balance beam arm 6 is not supported anywhere, the counterweight 7 has the tendency to rotate the balance beam in a clockwise direction around the tips of the lifting members 34 and 35. This rotation is prevented by the retaining member 26, which presses the shorter balance beam arm 5 so far down that the outer cutter 12 is removed from the abutment 16, as FIG. 1 shows.
In order to move from the locking position according to FIG. 1 into the release position of the locking device, the slide 23 provided with the retaining member 26 is moved upwards and at the same time the slide 27 provided with the lifting members 31 to 35 is moved downwards. In order to bring about this opposite movement of the two slides 23 and 27, each of these slides is raised or lowered by means of a cam 36 or 37, as indicated in FIG. 1. The two cams 36 and 37 sit on a common shaft 38 which is rotatably mounted in the column 21.
At the end of the shaft 38, which is not illustrated and protrudes from the balance housing, the usual actuating button is also provided, by means of which the locking device can be operated by hand. In the release position of the locking device, the center cutting edge 11 of the balance beam 4 to 6 rests on the abutment 22 so that the balance beam can rotate around the edge of the center cutting edge 11. The slide 27 assumes its lowest position, so that the lifting members 34 and 35 are withdrawn downwards according to FIG. At the same time, however, the lifting members 31 to 33 are also withdrawn downwards, so that according to FIG. 2 the abutment 16 of the hanger 16 to 20 rests on the outer cutter 12.
So that the retaining element 26 does not impair the movement of the balance arm 4 to 6, the slide 23 should assume its highest position in the release position of the locking device, so that the retaining element 26 is then withdrawn upwards.
In order to lock the balance, that is to say to pass from the release position into the locking position, the shaft 38 is rotated by half a revolution. As a result, the slide 27 is raised and the slide 23 is lowered at the same time. By lifting the slide 27, the lifting elements 34 and 35 come into contact with the bearings 14 and 15 of the balance beam 4 to 6, and at the same time the lifting elements 31 to 33 engage the intermediate part 17 from below. As a result, the balance beam 4 to 6 will begin to rotate slightly clockwise around the tips of the lifting members 34 and 35 as a result of its counterweight 7.
However, this rotation of the balance beam is limited by the lowering of the further slide 23 and by means of the retaining element 26, and the retaining element will finally press the shorter balance beam arm 5 downwards, so that the abutment 16 lifts off the outer cutter 12 and is shown in FIG. 1 illustrated locked position of the balance beam 4 to 6 and the hanger 16 to 20 is obtained.
In the locked position according to FIG. 1, the longer balance beam arm 6 is now apparently still loaded by the counterweight 7 in exactly the same way as in the release position. But also the shorter balance beam arm 5 is in the locked position under practically the same stress as in the release position. Both balance beam arms 5 and 6 are subjected to bending due to the effect of the counterweight 7 on the one hand and the retaining member 26 on the other hand, the extent of this bending stress being practically the same as in the release position. Hysteresis phenomena and elastic after-effects cannot therefore occur when the locking device is actuated on the balance beam 4 to 6, and the consequence of this is that fluctuations in the zero position of the balance beam as a result of such effects are avoided.
Precise weighing can therefore be started immediately after the locking device has been actuated and in the release position of the same.
A simpler embodiment of the present invention could consist in that the retaining member 26 is not attached to a movable slide, but fixedly. Then, however, the remaining slide 27 equipped with the lifting devices 31 to 35 would have to cover a considerably larger stroke when the locking device is actuated in order to achieve the desired locking of the hanger 16 to 20 and the balance beam 4 to 6 on the one hand and in the release position on the other the locking device to release the balance beam 4 to 6 the necessary play around its central cutting edge 11. Furthermore, it would be possible to mount the lifting devices 31 to 33, which are provided for the hanger 16 to 20, not on the slide 27, but on a special slide that is moved in the same direction as the slide 27, but with a different stroke.
The retaining member 26 could be seated on a third slide 23 moving in opposite directions or it could also be fixed. These and similar variants are, however, partly less favorable with regard to the effort required and partly with regard to the desired mode of operation than the embodiment of the present invention shown in principle in the drawing.
