Fig. 1 zeigt eine erste Durchführungsform des Verfahrens.
MnO 0,25 Gew.
Process for the production of magnetic sound heads A process for the production of magnetic sound heads intended for recording or playing back magnetic recordings is already known, in which at least two pieces of sintered, oxidic, ferromagnetic material are used, each of which is provided with at least one precision surface, The useful gap between the precision surfaces is filled with a glass film, the thickness of which is at least a few percent greater than the final gap width desired.
The whole is then heated up to the softening temperature of the glass and pressed together so that the correct gap width is achieved after the glass has hardened.
This known method is used in particular for the production of magnetic sound heads with a large resolution, in which the gap width is only a few microns. In this case, the thickness of the glass film attached between the precisely machined surfaces is so small that when it is heated up to the softening range of the glass and when it is simultaneously compressed, the viscosity forces in the glass hold this glass between the surfaces in question and thus ver be careful that the glass is pushed away from the gap formed by the surfaces mentioned under the effect of the great pressure exerted during pressing.
It turns out that this is not the case with magnetic sound heads whose gap width is about 10 µ or more.
It is obvious that under the conditions mentioned, setting the gap width to the correct value is practically impossible because the glass flows away.
Attempts have been made to prevent this flowing away. that at the ends of the gap metal foils or wires with a thickness corresponding to the desired gap width and with a melting point that exceeds the heating temperature of the sections and the glass in between are attached. It turns out, however, that at the relevant temperatures of about 900 C these metal foils or wires react either with the glass or with the ferrite or with both, which of course affects both the magnetic and mechanical properties of the heads and also the setting the gap width to the correct value becomes impossible.
If the material of these foils or wires were not deformed for the most part in the reactions mentioned, one could, starting from pieces of sufficient width, by removing a quantity of material in the vicinity of the gap ends, a head could be produced, which would conform to the purity of the Material requirements are met, but since the reactions mentioned affect up to a relatively large depth in the gap and in the surrounding material, this would cause large material losses.
In addition, apart from the fact that the material of the foils or wires must not melt at the temperatures mentioned and must not react with the glass, the ferrite or both - this material can also be easily adjusted to the desired thicknesses (10, u and more) a must be adjustable, while it should maintain its mechanical strength at the temperatures mentioned so that it does not collapse under the great pressure occurring during pressing.
It turns out that the latter requirements are not met by different metallic materials either, so that for this reason too the latter method brings difficulties with regard to setting the gap width to the correct value.
The invention aims to eliminate these disadvantages.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that, prior to heating, spacers made of mica are placed between the precision surfaces, the thickness of which is at least approximately the same as the gap width ultimately desired.
An implementation example of the method according to the invention will now be explained with reference to the magnetic heads shown for example in the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a first embodiment of the method.
FIG. 2 shows a first variant of the implementation according to FIG. 1, and FIG. 3 shows a second variant of the implementation according to FIG. 1.
In Fig. 1, 1 denotes a part of the Magneti's circuit made of sintered, oxidic, ferromagnetic material, the surface 2 of which serves as a gap surface and the part 3 of which forms part of the closing yoke of the finished product. A glass film 4 is applied to the surface 2, the dimension 5 of which is a few percent, possibly even ten or more percent, greater than the final desired gap width, which is of the order of magnitude of 10 μ or more. On the upper surface 6 of the part 3, a glass film 10 is attached, which can be considerably thinner than the film 4, however.
It should be noted that it is advisable to use films made of glass, the coefficient of expansion at the temperature at which the magnetic head is used, largely equal to the coefficient of expansion of the ferromagnetic material and z. B. is not more than 5010 different from this; However, it is preferred to use glass, the coefficient of expansion in the whole temperature range within which the magnetic head ge is needed, and the softening temperature of the glass largely equal to the expansion coefficient of the ferromagnetic material, z.
B. does not differ from this by more than 100 / a.
A glass that comes into consideration with regard to the thermal expansion coefficient can, for example, have the following composition: Si02 56.2 wt. 9 / o Na #, 0 7.6 wt. O / oa K20 4.5 wt. O / o Pb0 30.0 wt. a / n A1203 1.2 wt. 11/9 Sb203 0.3 wt.%,
MnO 0.25% by weight 7 and 8 denote the mica spacers, the thickness of which is at least approximately equal to the desired gap width.
A second section 9 is then attached to the whole formed in this way, the z. B. match the shape of the first section 3, or it can also be a flat piece of a sintered, oxidic, ferromagnetic material. This second section is shown in Fig.l in a position in which it is not yet attached to the section 1 provided with glass and mica.
The whole formed in this way is heated to the softening temperature of the glass used, and the pieces are pressed together. Thanks to the mica spacers, in this pressing process, once the desired gap width has been reached, no more glass can be pressed out of the gap.
It should be noted that after the desired gap width has been reached, the distance between the surface 6 of the closing yoke 3 and the corresponding surface of the section 9 should be sufficient to accommodate the pressed glass film 10, which is only used as a mechanical connection between the two parts 1 and 9 serves and can also be replaced by other Ver binding means to be able to record.
After cooling, those parts of the head whose gap is filled with mica can be sanded or sawed away, the guide surface of the head also being machined.
Optionally, the structure along one or more planes perpendicular to the direction of the gap width z. B. along the planes 11 and 12 are sawn through.
In this way a number of circles can be obtained from a single part made according to the process described.
It will be evident that the sections 1 and 9 can be designed twice, as shown in FIG. After the same process has been carried out as described above, the whole thing must be sawed through along a plane 13, so that two structures according to FIG. 1 are available.
You can start in the same way from two parts 14 and 15 of FIG. After performing the process described with reference to FIG. 1, the whole thing must be sawed through along a plane 16, so that two circular parts are available that can each be supplemented with a closing yoke.
The structures according to FIGS. 2 and 3 can also be sawed through along one or more planes perpendicular to the direction of the gap.
