Beispiel I
Process for the production of high molecular weight boron-carbon compounds
Of the conceivable compounds that contain boron-carbon bonds, the boron alkyls and boron aryls have been known for a long time. They are used e.g. B. as polymerization catalysts and as fuels. A number of methods for obtaining them are also known.
Recently, representatives of a second class of boron-carbon compounds have also been described, namely boron trivinyl and boron tripropenyl, i.e. substances in which the boron atom is linked to unsaturated hydrocarbon radicals. They are produced by reacting halogen-boron or alkyl boron compounds with sodium vinyl or sodium propenyl.
Caused by the C = C bond adjacent to the boron atom, some of these substances show properties that differ considerably from those of the boron alkyls.
The great interest that the boron alkyls, which are technically easily accessible today, experience, is based on two characteristic properties: Due to the electron gap on the boron atom, they have a clear radical character, which determines their value as polymerization catalysts; on the other hand, the high heat of combustion is also based on the relatively high boron content. These two characteristic properties of boron alkyls are naturally most pronounced in compounds with a low carbon content. On the other hand, however, a mostly undesirable property of boron alkyls, their self-igniting properties, increases with decreasing carbon content.
The desire was therefore natural to obtain substances which have the first-mentioned properties, which are linked to a high boron: carbon ratio, but are no longer spontaneously ignitable, i.e. easier to handle.
The invention now relates to a process for the production of a third class of boron-carbon compounds, namely of high molecular weight boron-carbon compounds, which is characterized in that boron hydrogen or BH3 addition compounds with carbon compounds that contain at least one carbon triple bond or at least contain two olefinic double bonds or also acetylenic and olefinic multiple bonds mixed, are reacted with polymerization. It has been found that unsaturated carbon compounds of the type mentioned, acetylene is mentioned as an example below, can be reacted with the mentioned boron-hydrogen compounds even under mild conditions. The implementation with the BH3 Anlagemngsverbindungen such as borazanes or boroxanes, the latter e.g.
B. in the implementation of boranates in; Ethers with boron halides or when introducing Bonvasserstoffen into ether arise.
For example, if a vigorous stream of acetylene is passed through a suspension of sodium boronate in tetrahydrofuran and boron fluoride diethyl etherate is added dropwise with vigorous stirring, then after 3NaBH4 + 4BF5 O (QH5) is formed. + 4 C4H5O + 3 NaBF4 + 4 · H8O BH0 + 4 (C2H5) 2O C4H8O. BH3, tetramethylene boroxane, a loose adduct of hydrogen boride with tetrahydrofuran. Acetylene accumulates on this, with the formation of boron trivinyl. If the reaction mixture is now filtered, an initially clear solution is obtained, which, however, soon becomes cloudy and finally white flakes separate out.
After the solvent has evaporated, a solid, waxy or rubber-like body remains with a boron content of 11.5% by weight. The reaction product is thus formed by polymerization of the boron trivinyl formed as an intermediate and has the composition B (C, H,),] ,. This body is thus to a certain extent a highly polymeric boron triethyl, but in contrast to this it is not self-igniting, but is only slowly oxidized in the air when heated.
Example I.
In a three-necked flask, a vigorous stream of acetylene is passed through a suspension of 3 gramol sodium boronate in 2 l of tetrahydrofuran. 4 grams of boron trifluoride etherate are then slowly added dropwise with vigorous stirring and while cooling with ice water. The internal temperature should not exceed 400 C. After the addition of borofluorodietherate is complete, acetylene is passed in for a further half an hour, filtered and, after standing for one day, the solvent is distilled off in vacuo. What remains is a white, solid, rubber-like to wax-like body with a boron content of 11.5% by weight, which is formed in quantitative conversion.
Example 2
In a three-necked flask with a gas inlet tube, dropping funnel, stirrer, reflux condenser, 3 gram mol of sodium boronate with 4 grams of boron fluoride etherate is converted into 2 liters of ether or better tetrahydrofuran to form diborane, and this is passed through the reflux condenser into a second flask with the aid of an inert gas stream, which is filled with tetrahydrofuran and into which a strong stream of acetylene is introduced at the same time. When heated, which is alleviated by external cooling, a high polymer product is formed very soon, which is obtained in pure form by evaporating the tetrahydrofuran after the reaction has ended.
Its composition corresponds to the formula [B (C2H3) 3.l.
The yield is quantitative.
Example 3
As described in Example 2, diborane is produced in a glass flask and pressed into a second flask with the aid of a stream of inert gas (argon), where it is reacted with acetylene in tetrahydrofuran. In a modification of the procedure described in Example 2, however, the diborane is metered in in excess, so that some Bonv hydrogen always escapes from the reaction mixture.
The reaction takes place again with heating and the formation of an insoluble, high-molecular compound that swells in tetrahydrofuran. This is obtained in pure form by evaporating the tetrahydrofuran in a boiling water bath under 10 Torr.
The analysis shows a boron content of 17% by weight.
So there is a copolymer of B (C2H3) 3 and B2 (C.2H4).
Example 4
115 g of N-triethylborazane (C2H5) 3N BH3 are placed in a three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, inlet tube and descending condenser. At 110-115 C, acetylene is introduced, which is absorbed with an increase in temperature. The acetylene is expediently diluted with nitrogen. After 2 hours the clear liquid becomes cloudy and viscous. Triethylamine and the remaining borazane are distilled off in vacuo. The residue is a hard to semi-plastic mass that liquefies when heated in air. The boron content is 10.1% by weight.
Example 5
35.5 g of N-triethyl borazane are kept at 115 ° C. in a three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer and dropping funnel. 74.5 g of propargyl chloride are added dropwise over the course of 1 hour. The temperature rises slightly. The resulting triethylamine is distilled off. A reddish-brown colored, translucent plastic mass remains, which liquefies in the air when heated. The boron content is 3.40 / 0 boron.
Example 6
In a glass autoclave, N-triethyl borazane is diluted with the same volume of toluene and 2 atmospheres of acetylene are injected. A substantial uptake only takes place above 100 ° C. Toluene and triethylamine formed are distilled off after the autoclave has been let down. A pale colored residue as described in Example 4 remains.
Example 7
Diborane and butadiene are introduced into tetrahydrofuran in a volume ratio of diborane: butadiene about 2: 3. After the reaction has ended, the mixture is refluxed for a further 1-2 hours and the solvent is then distilled off. A mixture of oily and solid products of various molecular weights is obtained.
