Geeignete heterocyclische Verbindungen sind z.B.: Indol und N-Alkylindole sowie die sich vom Indol ableitenden Amino- und Oxy-Verbindungen, auch aliphatisch oder aromatisch substituierte Deri vate, sofern von der 3,5- und 7-Stellung wenigstens eine als unsubstituiertes CH-Ringglied vorliegt;

Processes for the Production of Color Photographic Images on Textile Material Numerous photographic processes are known which use light-sensitive organic compounds for image recording. Some of these processes are based on photochemical rearrangements or conversions of organic compounds that take place with color changes.
A summary of such photochemical reactions of organic compounds is for example by A. Schönberg under the title: Preparative organic photochemistry> (Springer Ver lag 1958). Particular mention should be made of the disproportionation of the colorless tetrazolium salts to colored formazans by irradiation with UV light, the intra-molecular rearrangement of certain aromatic o-nitro compounds to colored isatogens,
the rearrangement of non-coupling stable diazosulphonates to form labile coupling diazosulphonates, which react in the alkaline area with suitable coupling components to form diazo dyes. The latter have been widely used in the so-called diazotype process.
Also mentioned are the numerous Chalkley patents which use the colorless triphenylacetonitrile for photographic recording. The compounds mentioned are rearranged into colored triphenylmethane dye salts by absorbing short-wave light energy in the presence of suitable catalysts. When corresponding materials are exposed, positive colored copies are obtained from a negative original.
Finally, US Pat. No. 2099297 describes a process that uses alkyl halides as light-sensitive organic compounds. The iodine atoms released in particular in UV light by photolytic decomposition of iodoform are used in the sense of the known iodine starch reaction to color starch or other polyoxy compounds.
With the photosensitive material described, containing iodoform and polyoxy compounds, positive copies are obtained from negative originals, blue to brown colored depending on the colloid used.
These processes require either special development processes or additional measures for stabilization, etc., as well as special treatment baths to remove a reaction component. It has now been found that in a completely dry process without additional treatment baths, photographic images are obtained in a simple manner on textile material if the photolysis of trihalomethyl compounds which occurs during UV exposure is in the presence of such aromatic or heterocyclic compounds takes who have capable of condensation, reactive CH ring members.
The reactivity of the ring members can be determined by suitable substituents, eg. B. free or substituted amino groups or hydroxyl groups or due to the constitution of the compounds come about. Monomethine dyes or dyes of the triphenylmethane type are formed as reaction products.
Compounds of the following formula are particularly suitable for the process according to the invention:
EMI0002.0001
where X, X 'and X "= Cl, Br or J and R = hydrogen, a hydroxyl or halogen-substituted alkyl radical, a carboxyl, carboxyl ester, carbonamide, aldehyde or phenyl group or the radical of a heterocycle and X, X 'and X "can be the same or different.
Suitable compounds are e.g. B. chloroform, bromoform or iodoform, the mixed tri-halomethanes such. B. HCC12J, HCCIBr2, also trichloroacetic acid and its derivatives, tribromoacetic acid and its derivatives, numerous 1,1,1-trichloroalkanes accessible by telomerization and others.
Aromatic compounds which contain CH ring members activated by free or substituted amino groups or OH groups are for example: mono- or dialkylated anilines, aminonaphthalenes, aminoanthracenes and aminophenanthrenes, one or more free or substituted amino groups and others May contain substituents,
where at least one of the o- and p-positions present in each case is unsubstituted as a CH ring member; Alpha-naphthol and the mono- and polyoxy compounds of the higher fused benzene hydrocarbons, at least one of the o- and p-positions being unsubstituted as a CH ring member.
Suitable heterocyclic compounds are, for example: indole and N-alkylindoles and the amino and oxy compounds derived from indole, including aliphatic or aromatic substituted derivatives, provided that at least one of the 3,5- and 7-positions is an unsubstituted CH ring member present;
Carbazole and N-alkylcarbazole, provided that at least one of the 1, 3, 6, 8-position is present as an unsubstituted CH ring member; 2-Amino-thiazoles and any amino group! substituted derivatives of the same with a free 5-position on the thiazole ring.
Furthermore, numerous other amino or oxy groups containing heterocyclic Ver connections, such as. B. Amino-pyridines, derivatives of quinoline and isoquinoline, thiophene, oxazole, imidazole, aeridine, oxydiphenylene and others.
Examples of suitable components are given in Tables 1 and 2.
In order to reduce their diffusivity, the components mentioned can be substituted by suitable radicals, for example long-chain alkyl groups or noun groups, or can be linked in or on macromolecules of high polymers.
The trihalogen compounds suffer photolytic decomposition when exposed to UV light. When the photolysis is carried out in the presence of aromatic or heterocyclic coupling components of the type described, colored reaction products are formed. When using the tri-halogen methanes, such. B.
Chloroform, bromoform or iodoform or the mixed trihalogen derivatives produce monomethine dyes. In the case of the other trihalomethyl compounds, the corresponding monomethine dyes substituted with R in the methine bridge are presumably formed. In the case of trihalomethyl compounds with R = aryl who receive the dyes of the triphenylmethane type.
The formation of the monomethine dyes should be explained, for example, by the following reaction scheme:
EMI0002.0100
The photochemical conversion of the components mentioned with the trihalomethane derivatives mentioned takes place both in solution and in the solid phase. For practical implementation, the finely divided reactants can be applied to a textile support with or without an embedding agent. Positive colored images are thus obtained through UV exposure under a negative line or halftone original.
The components can be applied according to methods known per se by applying or spraying solutions or by pouring or coating from viscous solutions of layer-forming plastics.
Depending on the light-sensitive agent used, different embodiments of the method are possible, which are described below: 1. Use of more volatile trihalogen derivatives, such as. B. chloroform, bromoform, dichlorobromomethane, trichloroacetic acid ester, benzotri- chloride and others: The component or mixtures of components are finely divided on a tex tilen carrier, such as. B. linen fabric applied.
This is advantageously done in a known manner with solutions of the components in organic solvents by pouring, spraying or dipping. After drying, the material is exposed to UV either after brief residence in a vapor atmosphere of the respective trihalogen compound or in the presence of the respective compound in suitable devices. The available colored pictures are protected from UV-containing daylight until the volatile trihalomethyl compounds have evaporated, and fixation is then not necessary.
2. Use of less volatile trihalogen derivatives, such as B. trichloroacetic acid, tribromoacetic acid or the 1,1,1-trichloroalkanes apart from trichloromethane. Here, together with the component, a trihalogen compound dissolved in an organic solvent is applied to the textile carrier. Component and trihalogen compound can be used in any mixing ratio, but preferably in a molar ratio of 1: 0.1 to 1.
The materials obtainable in this way can be exposed to UV without further measures. Subsequent fixation can either be done by briefly heating to 120 ° C., the trihalogen compounds still volatile at this temperature being removed or decomposed, or by dissolving out the trihalogen compounds with suitable solvents.
Another embodiment of the invention provides for the use of the reactants in layers applied to the textile substrates. These can e.g. B. from water-soluble colloids, such as. B. from gelatin, or from plastics soluble in organic solvents. For this purpose, z.
B. cellulose, cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes and a wide variety of film-forming polymers or copolymers of olefinically unsaturated monomers such as vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, styrene, olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids,
their esters or other derivatives, such as. B. maleic anhydride. When building layers with gelatin or other water-soluble colloids, the reac tion partners are dissolved in an organic solvent and optionally with the addition of inert crystalloids, such as. B. paraffins emulsified. When using plastics, the reactants are added to the casting solutions. This gives practically grainless layers with a very high resolution.
In a further embodiment of the invention, both the trihalomethyl compound, such as. B. in trihaloacylcellulose esters, as well as the coupling component, such as. B. in implementation products of N-amino-propyl-N-methylaniline with the copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride, chemically linked with macromolecules are used.
In all cases, the invention also provides for the use of component mixtures, as a result of which certain color nuances can be achieved in the images obtainable by exposure. The components or the alkyl halides can also be applied to the support in several layers, different components being used in the individual layers. The photographic images produced in layers can be fixed by heating as described above.
All UV-containing light sources are suitable for exposure, i.e. direct daylight and sunlight as well as mercury vapor lamps and others.
Example Linen fabric is soaked with a solution of 1 g of 1-methyl-2-phenyl-indole in 50 ml of benzene.
After drying, the fabric is placed on a bulky material moistened with bromoform and exposed under a transparent original for 4 minutes with a mercury vapor lamp. An HQH 80 watt Osram lamp was used at a distance of about 30 cm with a metal reflector. The red images obtained. Table 1 below gives an overview of the color shades obtainable with the most varied of components after exposure.
The components were embedded in cellulose acetate layers together with iodoform (molar ratio 2: 1). Linen fabric can be used as a textile carrier.
