Pelton Turbine The present invention relates to a Pelton turbine with vertical axis, comprising a device for returning the outlet water under the wheel.
As we know, a certain height must be left between the impeller and the downstream level of the water under a Pelton turbine with vertical axis, this to avoid drops in efficiency due to the splashing of the water leaving the impeller coming from hitting the level of the downstream body of water and bouncing against the wheel.
It would be advantageous to reduce as much as possible this difference in level between the wheel and the downstream water body, given that any reduction in this height constitutes a gain in the available waterfall. Apart from this gain in the available waterfall, a reduction in this height between the downstream body of water and the turbine wheel would make it possible to reduce construction costs and in particular civil engineering costs.
The Pelton turbine according to the invention tends to make possible the advantages listed above. It is characterized by the fact that the device for returning the outlet water under the wheel has a profile, the peripheral part of which at least is substantially in a plane parallel to the median plane of the wheel.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of a Pelton turbine with a vertical axis according to the invention.
With reference to the drawing, this Pelton com turbine takes a wheel 1 having the conventional blades 2 in the form of pockets. This wheel 1 is fixed to the lower end of a vertical shaft 3 guided in a bearing 4. This bearing 4 is carried by an upper base 5 itself resting on the upper end of columns 6. These columns 6 take support, by their lower end, on the upper face, substantially horizontal ment of a concrete block 7 forming part of the civil engineering work of the hydroelectric plant, in which the Pelton turbine is mounted.
The arrival of the penstock supplying this turbine is shown at 8. This penstock 8 supplies one or more injectors 9, the jet of which is intended to tangentially reach the wheel 1. In the arrangement shown in the drawing, the outlet channel of the The water is represented by a basin 10 extending under the penstock 8. A circular channel 11 is formed around the concrete block 7 located under the periphery of the wheel 1. This circular channel 11 opens laterally into the basin 10 The level of the downstream body of water 12 is fixed below the level of the concrete block 7 under the periphery of the turbine. To prevent the outlet water from spilling out, this turbine comprises a device for radial return of the outlet water.
This device comprises a deflector or water guide 13 in the form of a body of revolution, the upper part 14 of which is placed in the immediate vicinity of the wheel 1. The diameter of this upper part 14 corresponds substantially to the diameter of the rim of the wheel. 1 at the roots of the blades 2. The lower edge 15 of this deflector 13, which has a diameter at least equal to the external diameter of the blades 2 of the wheel, comes to rest on the concrete block 7 which extends its peripheral profile substantially in a plane parallel to the median plane of the wheel.
The purpose of this deflector or water guide 13, in cooperation with the upper plane of the concrete block 7, is to return radially towards the circular channel 11 and the basin 10 the water leaving the blades 2 of the impeller 1. This deflector or water guide 13 has a shape substantially similar to that of the water guide 16 arranged between the turbine wheel 1 and the upper base 5.
The presence of this deflector or water guide 13, the profile of which is extended peripherally by a substantially horizontal plane, makes it possible to significantly reduce the height between the downstream water plane 12 and the turbine wheel 1, given that it avoids any possibility of water splashing back onto the wheel 1 and reducing the efficiency of the latter.
As shown in the drawing and to facilitate the disassembly of the wheel 1 in the event of an overhaul of the latter, the concrete block 7 is annular in shape, its central void constituting a well 17 under the deflector 13. This well 17 communicates with a tunnel 18 opening into an outer well 19 allowing the exit of the wheel 1 for its revision.
For the visit of the wheel 1, a door 20 is provided in the concrete block 21 surrounding the turbine chamber. A footbridge 22 allows the passage of this door 20 above the channel 11, to reach the upper plane of the concrete block 7. Such a position, which eliminates any downstream well for receiving the outlet water, deep important, placed directly under the turbine 1, reduces the risk of accidents or falls in this downstream basin, given that the personnel visiting the turbine can perform their work by moving directly on the concrete block 7.
Of course, prior to dismantling the wheel 1, the deflector 13 must be removed. This deflector 13 can be dismantled either in one piece to be retracted into the shaft 17, the tunnel 18 and the outlet shaft 19, or in several segments. In the latter case, these segments could be joined together by flanges arranged inside the body of revolution formed by the deflector 13, flanges held together by bolts which could be reached from the well 17. The wheel 1 and the deflector 1.3 can be dismantled without having to block the discharge channel with boats.
