Description
Filter for smoking articles and method for making such a filter Most of the known filters with which cigars or cigarettes are fitted are made by means of a strip of material pleated longitudinally, this band passes through a collecting funnel serving to compress it into a cylinder which will then be sheathed and cut to the desired length. Due to the longitudinal wrinkling of the material constituting them, these filters do not retain more than from 10 to 15 % of the tars.
Figs. 1 and 3 respectively represent the strip of material and the device for compressing this strip.
With the aim of remedying to these drawbacks, the present invention relates to a filter for smoking articles, characterized in that the the component material is twisted.
The invention also relates to a process for making such a filter, characterized in that the strip of material intended to to form the filter is subjected to a twist in the vicinity of a collecting funnel of this material of a filter making machine.
The accompanying drawing represents, in FIGS. 2 and 4, to by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a schematic view of a rod serving for the making of filters according to the invention. Fig. 4 is a schematic view of a device serving for the preparation of the rod of FIG. 2. Figs. 1 and 2 make it possible to compare a bay window serving to form usual filters, the material of which has longitudinal folds and a bay window serving to < / B> forming filters according to the invention, in which the material is twisted. Experience has shown that such a filter offers significantly greater tar retention than that of a conventional filter.
To make a filter of which the material is twisted, use is made of a machine making the filters provided with a collecting funnel 1 (fig. 4). A strip of material 2 coming from a roll not shown and having longitudinal folds 3 passes through through a slot 7 of a disc 6 placed between the roller and the funnel. By rotating the disc 6 on its axis, it causes the torsion of the material strip 2 which is simultaneously pulled out of the funnel 1 in the direction of the arrow 8. Material 2 is then in the form of a twisted rod 9.
It is planned -to place disk 6 before the entry of funnel 1, or to l 'inside said funnel. The disc 6 can be driven with an alternating or continuous rotary motion ; in this case, it is also necessary to rotate simultaneously the roll of material, in order to avoid the -torsion of said material between the roll and the disc.
We could also twist the material 2 by performing the twist at the outlet of the funnel.
