von der Mittelachse der Kokille aus durch die Öffnungen in der Kokillenwand gehenden Ebenen angeordnet. Da durch wird die Strömung des Metallei in der Kokille in ähnlicher Weise beeinflusst wie durch die tiefer in das Metall hineinragenden Teile des Schlackensteines. Die Wirkungsweise der Vorrichtung ist folgende;
Beide Zahn räder 70 stehen miteinander in Eingriff.
The invention relates to a device for the vertical casting of metal strands, preferably steel strands, in a system with a front hearth or an intermediate vessel from which the metal to be cast is made from at least one one with the forehearth or the intermediate vessel firmly connected ver hot mold and a cold mold be standing strand mold is fed.
The invention also relates to a method for operating such a device.
It is known that in continuous casting molds the upper part of the mold is uncooled or even heated and preferably made of graphite or similar material and to allow a part called a cold mold to be connected to this part called a cold mold.
It is also known, in vertical continuous casting plants, to guide the metal to be cast through a pipeline introduced into the casting head from above to below the metal level in the casting head. This introduction requires, unless special distribution devices are provided below the pipe mouth in the pouring head, a metal flow in the pouring head, the ssen metal in the middle of the hot due to the constant supply.
Giesskopfes leads to a long blowhole. In addition, the amount of metal flowing through the pipeline must be controlled very carefully in order to keep the height of the metal level in the mold approximately the same.
It is also known to place a storage container directly on the upper end of the mold. In this case it is extremely difficult to apply lubricant to the walls of the mold, and above all a problem-free discharge of the gases produced by the evaporation and possibly burning of the lubricant causes considerable difficulties.
The invention aims to eliminate these disadvantages.
In the device of the type mentioned, the invention consists in the fact that the upper part of the hot mold forming the cast strand is located in this intermediate vessel or forehearth above the level of organs arranged on the intermediate vessel or Vorberd, which must not be reached by the liquid metal , extends upwards and that the hot mold with above the bottom of the intermediate vessel or
Forehearth lying, the mold interior with the interior of the forehearth or intermediate vessel is connected through openings through which the metal to be cast from the intermediate vessel or
enters the mold from the front hearth. In the method for operating such a device according to the invention, the metal to be cast is introduced into the mold through lateral openings in the hot mold wall below the casting head mirror.
This results in the possibility of heating the pouring head in the hot mold from above and / or loading it with lubricant, which results in favorable conditions compared to the previously known supplies of the metal to be poured through pipes into the pouring head that the ge the entire cross-section above the pouring head is unrestrictedly available for heating and lubricant supply.
The figures show exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention. Fig. 1 shows partially in section a plant with an intermediate vessel to which two molds for casting full strands are connected.
2 shows, partially in section, a system with two molds connected to a forehearth for casting pipes.
Fig. 3 shows in section the upper part of a mold connected to an intermediate vessel for casting a full strand with a guide tube bent upwards.
Fig. 4 shows in section the upper part of a mold connected to an intermediate vessel for casting a full strand with a central, prismatic guide body.
Fig. 5 shows in section the upper part of a mold connected to an intermediate vessel for casting a full strand, in which the bores in the wall are directed obliquely upwards.
In FIG. 1, 1 denotes a holding furnace, from which a feed pipe 2 guides the liquid metal into an intermediate vessel 3. In the warming furnace 1, a stopper 4 is provided, through which the supply pipe 2 closed ver if necessary.
and the flow of metal through the supply pipe 2 can be regulated. On the Zwischenge vat 3, a gas burner 5 is provided as well as an exhaust opening 6 through which the heating gases can escape. Each hot mold 7 consists of a ceramic mix, preferably such a high clay content, in particular with a clay content of over 40 / o, and extends over the height of the burner 5 and the exhaust opening 6,
which must in no way be reached by the liquid metal, to the top. Immediately above the bottom of the intermediate vessel 3, each hot mold 7 has a few bores 9 through which the liquid metal can enter the mold from the intermediate vessel 3.
A casting bushing 53 made of a material with dense, smooth walls, high abrasion resistance and good self-lubricating properties, for example pressed graphite, is inserted into the hot coal 7 below the bores 9.
In contrast to this, however, the hot mold can also be made entirely of a material with good self-lubricating properties, for example pressed graphite. With a device of the type described, however, such a hot mold is exposed to the risk of being pitted near the surface of the metal bath.
The hot chill molds 7 are firmly connected to the bottom of the intermediate vessel 3 by a chamotte lining 8. Below the bores 9, an induction coil 50 is placed around the hot mold 7, which is fed with current via the connections 51 and through which the metal in the hot mold 7 is heated and swirled through by eddy currents. An insulating jacket 52 is placed around induction coil 50.
The heating of the hot mold, for which other types of, for example electrical, resistance heating devices can also be provided, aims to prevent the bores from freezing or the metal to be cast freezing to the inside wall of the mold in the vicinity of these bores.
In addition, a further heating device can be provided for the hot mold part protruding from the metal mirror in the intermediate vessel, preferably a device for generating a gas flame striking into the intermediate vessel.
The cold mold 10 adjoins the hot mold 7. The cold mold 10 is surrounded by a cooling jacket 11, into which cooling water enters through a connection stub 12, which then flows from the space 13 through the gap 14 into the space 15 and flows away from this through the connection stub 16. The lower part of the hot mold 7 is surrounded by a further cooling jacket 17,
which is constructed analogously to the cooling jacket 11 surrounding the cold mold. The cold molds 10 are each supported by a support plate 18 on a frame 19 on which the intermediate vessel 3 is also mounted via special supports 20. By means of a lifting device, not shown in the figure, the frame 19 with an extruded mold 7, 10 and the intermediate vessel 3 can be moved along the vertical guide bolts 21.
The lifting device as well as the guide pins 21 are mounted in the frame 22 of a carriage which can be moved on the rails 24 by means of the rollers 23 in order to be able to pull out the entire system part consisting of intermediate vessel 3 and molds for the purpose of repair after the casting process. The hot mold 7 is beveled on the end face adjoining the cold mold 10 in such a way that an annular channel 25 is created, into which lubricant can be pressed through feed lines 26.
The annular channel 25 is connected by channels 27 to the inside of the mold. At the mouths of the channels 27 there are wedge-shaped recesses 28 on the inside of the cold mold 10. Below the cold mold 10, two splash rings 29 are arranged, which directly apply cooling water to the cast strand 30 emerging from the cold mold 10. The device described is particularly suitable for casting solid profiles down to the smallest cross-sections in any shape.
The operation of the system according to FIG. 1 is as follows: From the holding furnace 1 filled with liquid metal, the liquid metal passes through the pipe line 2 @in the heated intermediate vessel 3 and from this through the bores 9 into the interior of the hot molds 7. Im In the lower part of the hot molds 7, an edge layer begins to solidify, which slides from here into the cold mold 10, in which the strand solidifies into the inner part.
During this, the intermediate vessel 3 is constantly moved vertically up and down together with the molds. This creates a constant relative movement between the mold and the cast strand in the direction of the cast strand axis.
In Fig. 2, 31 denotes a forehearth which can be separated by a shut-off valve 32 from the in the drawing voltage not shown, adjoining left oven. In the forehearth 31, an agitator 33 is arranged, which is driven by a vertical geared flange motor 34.
The hot chill molds 37 are connected by fireclay lining 38 to the forehearth 31 and extend over the upper end of the shut-off valve 32, which is in no way reached or flooded by the liquid metal who is allowed to go up.
In. The hot chills 37 are located directly above the bottom of the forehearth 31 some bores 39 through which the liquid metal from the forehearth 31 enters the interior of the hot chill 37. A casting bushing 53 made of graphite is inserted below the bores 39 into the hot mold 37 made of ceramic mass.
An induction coil 50, which is provided with connections 51 and is surrounded by an insulating jacket 52, is placed around the hot mold 37. Another induction coil 35 is placed in the warm mold 37, by means of which the liquid metal in the warm mold 37 can be heated.
The hot mold 37 is partially closed at the top by a cover 36. A cold mold 40, which is surrounded by a cooling jacket 11, adjoins the hot mold 37.
The lower part of the hot mold 37 is surrounded by a cooling jacket 17. Supporting beams 41 are placed on the cover 36 and carry a mandrel which protrudes into the interior of the mold and is made up of a graphite jacket 42, which is partially surrounded by a wear jacket 54 made of particularly wear-resistant graphite, and a metal tube 43,
Cooling water being passed through a connection 44 into the interior of the metal pipe 43, which is passed through an annular space between the cylinder pipe 45 and the inner wall of the metal pipe 43 and is passed through an inclined gap 46 into the interior of the cast strand 47.
If more cooling water is pressed into the annular space between the metal tube 43 and the cylinder tube 45 through the connection 44 than can flow out through the inclined gap 46, the excess amount flows through the overflow tube 48 and falls freely inside the Cast strand 47 down.
This reduces the heat radiation inside the cast hollow strand. The KOkR len are mounted together with the forehearth 31 on a frame 49 which can be moved by means of the rollers 23 on the rails 24 together with the furnace. The mandrel protruding into the interior of the mold can consist of an originally cooled, optionally heatable, and a cooled part.
In this form, the device according to the invention is suitable for casting pipes and similar hollow bodies in any shape.
The mode of operation of the system according to FIG. 2 is as follows: When the shut-off valve 32 is open, liquid metal emerges from the furnace into the forehearth 31 and is kept in motion by the agitator 33.
In this case, liquid metal occurs constantly through the bores 39 in the interior of the hot mold 37 and forms here between the inner wall of the hot mold 37 and the graphite jacket 42 or between the inner wall of the cold mold 40 and the metal tube 43, a tubular body.
If the metal begins to stiffen in the vicinity of the holes 39, the metal in the hot mold 37 is heated by the induction coil 35. If, on the other hand, at the end of the hot mold 37, i.e. at the transition between the hot mold 37 and the cold mold 40, sufficient edge solidification has not yet started, the lower part of the hot mold 37 is cooled,
by sending cooling water through the cooling jacket 17. Through the supply lines 26, lubricant is pressed into the annular space 25 and passes through the channels 27 between the inner wall of the cold mold 40 and the outer wall of the cast strand 47.
In FIGS. 3 to 5, 7 each denotes a warm mold, which is firmly connected to an intermediate vessel 3, of which only a section is provided in the drawing, the bottom of which is marked with 55 be.
In Fig. 3, 9 denotes a hole in the wall of the mold 7. A bent tube 74, which is fastened to the wall of the mold 7, connects directly to this opening 9. Instead of the upwardly bent tube, a tube only provided with an opening at the top can also be used. Below the bore 9, an opening 56 is provided in the wall of the mold 7, to which a lubricant line 57 is connected.
The opening for the supply of the lubricant can be slot-shaped. The arrangement of this breakthrough below the bore for feeding the metal to be cast also enables lubrication of the parts of the mold wall below the bores,
the lubricant flowing down from above on the mold wall because of the holes in between who cannot be lubricated.
The method of operation of the device is as follows: The metal to be cast flows from the intermediate vessel 3 through the bore 9 in the wall of the hot mold 7 and through the adjoining pipe 74 into the hot mold 7.
The flowing metal is directed upwards through the pipe 74, so that it first flows up in the middle of the hot mold 7 in the manner indicated by the arrows 58 and then along the metal surface from the middle of the hot mold 7 to its wall and finally flows down this wall.
In this case, liquid lubricant located on the surface of the metal in the hot mold 7 is guided downward by the metal along the mold wall. Below the pipe 74, the mold wall is in the flow shadow of the downward flowing metal, so that lubricant flowing down from the metal surface on the mold wall below the mold wall.
Connection of the pipe 74 to the mold wall not achieved. Therefore this part of the wall of the hot mold 7 is supplied with lubricant through the opening 56. The lower part of the hot mold 7, which is no longer shown in the drawing, is cooled so that the metal in it solidifies to form a strand.
The flow of the liquid metal in the casting head is significantly influenced by the arrangement of the bores or the shape of the perforations in the mold wall. In particular, when casting full cross-sections, there is the risk that the metal to be cast will flow downwards from the openings in the wall of the mold inside the mold and that there will be metal in the part of the mold above the openings.
that does not move and therefore forms a crust or auskri stalled and at least does not support the flow of lubricant along the mold wall from the casting head through its movement. To improve the situation, it can also be expedient to arrange the bores for feeding in the metal to be cast in a horizontal plane tangential to the mold wall.
In the case of a device with a tube that is open at the top for supplying the metal to be cast, if plates are to be cast, the tube can be arranged in the direction of the longer axis of the mold cross-section. The upper opening of the tube can either be uniform or conical in accordance with the metal must, which decreases in the direction of the tube axis.
There is the possibility of giving the tube, in particular in the vicinity of the wall of the mold, a streamlined cross section. Instead of a tube, an upwardly curved spoon-like tongue can be provided as the guide surface guiding the metal, the shape of which can correspond, for example, to a curved tube that is halved along its central axis.
4 shows a hot mold 7, the wall of which has two radial bores 9. In the middle of the hot mold 7 at the level of the bores 9, a prismatic body 59 is arranged. An annular cinder block 60 is immersed in the surface of the metal within the hot colal 7.
Here at the prismatic body can be suspended from the cinder block, so that fastening devices do not have to be attached to the wall of the mold. The suspensions with which such a body is suspended from the cinder block, who is expediently in the imagined,
arranged from the central axis of the mold through the openings in the mold wall planes. As a result, the flow of the metal in the mold is influenced in a similar way as by the parts of the cinder block protruding deeper into the metal. The operation of the device is as follows;
The metal flows from the intermediate vessel 3 through the bores 9 into the hot mold 7. It flows, as marked by the arrows 58, against the prismatic body 59, through whose guide surfaces 61 the metal flow is deflected approximately in the center of the hot mold 7 upwards.
The metal continues to flow along the metal surface in the mold 7 from the center outwards, with oxide and slag particles floating on the metal being collected by the cinder block 60.
The metal flowing down along the wall of the mold takes lubricants cast onto the metal surface with it and thus forms a film of lubricant between the metal and the mold wall. Since the specific weight of the metal to be cast is relatively high in relation to its toughness, relatively low speeds of the metal are sufficient to generate a pronounced flow.
If several openings are provided in the wall of the mold, preferably evenly distributed around the circumference of the mold, a pyramid-shaped body can be provided approximately in the center of the mold, with one surface of the pyramid being provided as a guide surface and of an opening opposite it flows into the wall of the KoMe. If necessary, the pyramid-like body can be twisted so crookedly that
that it creates a vortex-like, rising swirl flow in the metal. The body arranged approximately in the middle of the mold, which is flown against by several openings in the wall of the mold arranged evenly on the circumference, can also be designed as a rotationally symmetrical body, for example in the form of an inverted mushroom.
In Fig. 5, the hot mold 7 is provided with two openings 62, the walls of which form inclined Leit surfaces 63. A cinder block 64 is immersed in the metal surface within the hot mold 7, the lower edge of which is curved so that the deepest points 65 of the cinder block 64 lie in the imaginary vertical planes that point from the central axis of the hot mold 7 to the openings 62. The flattest points 66 of the cinder block 64 are offset by 90 each relative to the deepest points 65 of the cinder block 64.
The mode of operation of the device is as follows: The metal flowing through openings 62 from the intermediate vessel 3 into the hot mold 7 is guided diagonally upwards through the guide surfaces 63, so that there are diagonally ascending currents, as indicated by the arrows 58 , forms.
These two metal streams flow against each other and are aligned so that they form a common metal stream that rises almost in the middle of the mold. Below the metal surface, the metal flows from the center of the hot mold 7 to the outside, the flow being influenced by the cinder block 64 in such a way that
that under the flattest points 66 of the cinder block 64 through a stronger metal flow at approximately perpendicular to the plane of the drawing flows to the parts of the wall of the hot mold 7, under which openings 62 are not provided. Through the deepest points 65 of the cinder block 64, the flow of the metal from the center of the hot mold 7 from the parts of the wall of the hot mold 7 above the openings 62 is reduced.
In this way, bodies which are arranged inside the mold and which may interfere with the formation of strands can be avoided. A flow then forms in the mold that is approximately similar to that
as they are known from the cylinders of slot-controlled two-stroke internal combustion engines with reverse flow reverse purging. In addition, eddies in the metal are avoided and a more even, calmer downward flow of the metal into the part of the Ko kille in which the metal solidifies to form a strand is achieved.
The float 67 floats on the surface of the metal in the intermediate vessel 3. The cinder block 64 and the float 67 each hang on a cord 68. Each cord 68 is on a drum 69, which is stored in the frame 71 and under the action of one the respective cord 68 tensioning spiral springs stands, wound up. Each drum 69 is rigidly connected to a gear 70.
Both toothed wheels 70 are in engagement with each other. The frame 71 is mounted in a bearing 72 and rigidly connected to a pointer 73; which shows a rash as soon as the height of the cinder block 64 deviates from that of the float 67. This is the case; if the metal surface within the Ko kille, for example due to blockages in the openings in the mold wall, drops significantly below the level of the metal surface in the intermediate vessel or forehearth.
