Precious metal alloy, especially for electrical resistors. In recent times, efforts have been made to reduce the size and weight of high-resistance resistors for potentiometers and similar electrical devices. These efforts were initiated in particular by the requirements made in aircraft construction, since a weight saving can be of great importance here.
The materials used to produce such resistors, especially potentiometers and tern, are subject to a wide variety of requirements that are difficult to reconcile. You should have both a high electrical resistance and a very low Temperaturkoeffizien th. On the one hand, they should be abrasion-resistant, on the other hand, they should be able to be deformed well.
Even after a long period of operation, they must have constant resistance, and at the same time extremely high demands are placed on the corrosion resistance. In addition to all these properties, there is also the requirement for a constant, low contact resistance.
Corrosion resistance, low contact resistance and low temperature coefficients were believed to be achievable only by using alloys containing high expansion metals, with which, however, only a relatively low specific resistance was achieved. So are z. B. alloys of palladium-silver, gold "silver-copper, platinum copper-nickel or palladium-tungsten are suitable for these purposes.
With low alloy additions of base balls, such alloys have good workability, but the specific resistance does not rise above 0.5 Ohm / mm2 / m. Higher alloy additions, in turn, lead to materials that are difficult to process and in which large amounts of rejects are incurred until the wire diameter that is customary for potentiometer wires is reached.
Gold-iron alloys have already been described which, at higher iron contents, for example above 27 atomic percent, after a special heat treatment have specific resistances that exceed the specified value. However, with regard to their constancy of resistance and corrosion resistance, these alloys do not meet the requirements of e.g. B. Potentiometer materials made demands.
It has now been shown that the aforementioned difficulties can be overcome by using noble metal alloys that contain gold. Accordingly, the present invention relates to noble metal alloys which are particularly suitable for electrical resistors and which are characterized in that they contain up to 10% by weight of elements of FIG.
Subgroup of the periodic system together with ferrous metals and the remainder precious metals, at least 25 wt / o gold. The gold content can be over 90% by weight. However, it will be advantageous to .look out with lower gold contents.
An additional alloy of up to 30% silver leads to lower-priced alloys. Palladium proportions of up to 65 wt: o / o, preferably up to 50 wt: o / o, lead to alloys with particularly high specific resistances with a relatively low specific weight at the same time.
Such alloys are also easy to process and have excellent properties. They are also characterized by very strange behavior; namely, they have their optimal resistance in the soft-annealed condition, in contrast to most of the alloys known to date.
For this reason, they also have a particularly constant resistance over long periods of use and even after heating to above the service temperature, as can occur in the event of incorrect switching. Potentiometers made from them can be loaded much higher than usual, especially since their Temperaturkoeffi is extremely low. This possibility is of particular importance z. B. for modern aircraft construction.
The alloys according to the invention consist, for example, of 85 to 40.1 / o gold, 10 to 551% palladium, 1 to 51 / o elements of the 4th
Subgroup of the periodic system and 3 to 8% ferrous metals. Alloys of the type described made of 60 to 70% gold, 1 to 3% titanium, have also proven to be very effective.
25 to 35% palladium and 3 to 5% iron.
Optimal results are achieved when the sum of the elements of the 4th subgroup and the ferrous metals is less than 7% by weight and the ratio of the elements of the 4th subgroup and those of the ferrous metals is between 0.25 and 0.5 .
The following examples show the excellent resistance values of the alloys described.

62 TK denotes the temperature coefficient. The extraordinarily low value for the highest specific resistance is particularly noteworthy. It is also possible to influence the temperature coefficient through heat treatment. You can achieve values of 0 or even negative values if you wish.
