23 % Cr, 1,%, Ta, 0,5 0/0. W und 0,5 0/0 Mo auf;
Abgewogene Probender Legierung werden (in, einem Porzellantiegel, der mit einem Schlitz ver sehen ist, um einen angemessenen Zutritt der Luft zu dem Rohblock zu erlauben) in einen Ofen der Bauart Globar (eingetragene Marke) eingebracht und mindestens 16 Stunden bei 1000 einem Luft strom von 57 1/min ausgesetzt. Die Proben werden dann abgekühlt und gewogen;
der Oxydationsgrad entspricht der prozentualen Gewichtszunahme der Probe.

Niobium-Titanium-Chromium Alloy The invention relates to a niobium-titanium-chromium alloy. In particular, this alloy has an exceptionally high temperature and corrosion resistance and is sufficiently ductile to allow machining. This alloy is suitable as a material for all kinds of facilities that are exposed to high temperatures, such as gas turbines, high temperature, temperature reaction vessels, systems for refining oil and dies for metalworking at high temperatures.
The niobium-titanium-chromium alloy: according to the invention is characterized in that it is 5-300 / 9 Ti, 1-30% Cr, at least 50% Nb, and a total of 0.2-7% at least one of the elements Al, C,
Co, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Si, Ta, W, V or Zr, the elements C, Co, Ni and Si making up a total of at most 2% of the alloy. The total content of the alloy in the elements Al, C, Co, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Si, Ta, W,
V and Zr 2 to 5%. Those alloys containing 10 to 2519 / o Ti and 15 to 3011 / o Cr,
for example 15-25% Ti and 20-28% Cr. A preferred alloy has a content of at least 50% Nb, 24% Ti,
23% Cr, 1.0%, Ta, 0.5 0/0. W and 0.5% Mo;
another preferred one has a content of at least 50% Nb, 13.8% Ti, 25 0/0 Cr, 0.2% C, 10/0 Mo,
2% W, 1.5 0/0 V and 1.5% Zr.
The individual metals can be melted together using the usual methods. When cooling down, the alloy solidifies with the formation of a non-brittle :. or you: ktilen Gusses. An electric arc furnace with a water-cooled copper crucible can be used for this purpose, in which the charge is melted and allowed to solidify.
The individual metals placed in the furnace can be of any shape, e.g. B. be in the form of powder, shot, wire, sponge, etc. It is also possible, if necessary in combination, to use electric arc furnaces with consumable and non-consumable electrodes or furnaces with continuous loading.
Furthermore, the melting by inductive heating in a ge suitable deep gel, z. B. be made according to the so-called skull technique. During the melting process, the metals should be protected from exposure to the atmosphere in order to avoid contamination with oxygen or nitrogen.
For this purpose, it is expedient to narrow under inert conditions, for example under an inert gas such as argon, under a protective slag or by both methods.
The alloys according to the invention prove to be far more resistant to oxidation at temperatures from 100 to 500 and retain their mechanical strength to a much greater extent than the known high-temperature alloys. Well-known high-temperature alloys lose their strength or melt at 1300,
while the alloys according to the invention can withstand pressures of over 100 kg / mm2 at this temperature.
Example 1 A homogeneous melt with a weight of 0.454 kg, which contains 24% titanium, 23% chromium, 10/0 tantalum, 0.5% tungsten, 0.5% molybdenum,
and contains niobium as the remainder, is produced by melting the appropriate amounts of metal together and then alternately solidifying and remelting the alloy six times. The melting takes place in an electric arc furnace with a water-cooled copper crucible,
as described by Kroll in Transactions of the Electrochemical Society, Volume 78, 1940, pages 35 to 47. 200 g of the melt are poured into a cylin drical water-cooled copper mold of 19.1 mm inside diameter and 50.8 mm depth.
These measures are carried out under helium to prevent contamination of the metals. The casting obtained from the mold is hot forged and processed into a nozzle for spraying the molten salts, such as MgC12, in chemical processes. This alloy has exceptional properties in the same order of magnitude as are given in Table 1.
Example 2 An alloy with the composition 15 9 / o Ti, 23 9 / o Cr, 59 "/ o Nb, 1 0 / a W and 2 0 / a Ta is produced,
by melting the individual metal components together in the furnace according to Example 1 under helium. The alloy is kept under helium and alternately remelted and solidified 6 times, whereby a homogeneous ingot is obtained.
Table 1 gives the oxidation resistance of the alloy obtained in this example. This resistance to oxidation was determined in the following way:
Weighed samples of the alloy are placed (in, a porcelain crucible provided with a slit to allow adequate air access to the ingot) in a Globar type furnace (registered trademark) and subjected to a stream of air at 1000 for at least 16 hours exposed to 57 rpm. The samples are then cooled and weighed;
the degree of oxidation corresponds to the percentage increase in weight of the sample.
