Fluid coupling Fluid couplings are known as power transmission means and are used in a wide variety of branches of technology. Compared to mechanical clutches, such fluid couplings have the particular advantage that there are no parts subject to mechanical wear between the primary part and the secondary part of the clutch. These fluid couplings have so far worked on the hydrodynamic principle.
The invention consists in a liquid coupling that does not work according to the hydrodynamic principle, but instead according to the hydrostatic principle. In the hydrodynamic mode of operation, the necessary forces or torques are transmitted at low pressures (e.g. 2 to 3 atm.) When using a large mass of liquid in the unit of time. In contrast, the hydrostatic mode of operation allows high pressures (e.g. 100 to 300 atm.) for small amounts of liquid in the unit of time. This difference means that a coupling according to the invention can be kept in much smaller dimensions with the same power transmission.
The hydrodynamically operating clutch always requires a speed difference between the primary and the secondary part in order to be able to transmit a torque, while with the hydrostatic clutch, both clutch parts have the same speed at any high torque, i.e. can work without slipping. Hydrostatic clutches can transmit the full torque at the lowest speeds, while in the case of the hy drodynamically operating clutch, considerable speeds of the primary part are necessary to make the clutch effective at all.
The fluid coupling according to the invention is characterized by a pump in the form of a positive displacement pump which z. B. can be designed as a gear pump or piston pump, but preferably as a vane pump, and a housing that surrounds this pump. A slip-dependent fluid circulation takes place in the cavity between this housing and the pump. The shaft of the pump on the one hand and the housing or its shaft on the other hand serve as the drive or output member. Since the pump is located inside the housing, a particularly advantageous short overall length can be achieved for the fluid coupling.
The fluid coupling can be used in connection with a fluid tank, this fluid tank being connected with corresponding lines to the oil circulation space between the housing and the pump.
A particularly preferred embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is that the hollow space between the pump and the housing contains only the liquid supply. As a result, a compact and compact design can be achieved for the entire fluid coupling, which can also be designed with small dimensions for the transmission of greater forces compared to the known fluid couplings. If the pump in the housing and other moving parts are constantly surrounded by oil, there is no need for any maintenance of the coupling. If as many components of the coupling as possible consist of bodies of revolution, the production of this coupling is significantly simplified compared to fluid couplings, which are seen ver with blades.
It is advisable to install a spring-loaded valve in the fluid coupling, which allows the fluid pressure to be controlled. This spring-loaded valve can be accommodated particularly expediently in the end of the pump shaft located in the fluid coupling. This spring-loaded valve is also designed to be expediently adjustable with the aid of a manually operated adjusting screw. This adjusting screw can protrude with its handle out of the housing of the coupling. But you can also provide the front plate of the housing with a centrally located screw cap that covers the spring adjustment screw.
A preferred application area of the liquid coupling is that it is designed as a structural unit with a fan, in conjunction with a cooler, e.g. B. for internal combustion engines, in connection with an air conditioning system, a boiler suction system or the like. An automation of the operation of this clutch he is when the spring-loaded valve is controlled by a thermostat that is in the sphere of influence z. B. the cooling water of a cooling system or in the area of influence of air, whose temperature fluctuations should ensure an increased or decreased flow rate of the fan.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the coupling is shown. It shows: FIG. 1: a fluid coupling with the pump shaft protruding into the water circulation space of an internal combustion engine, in longitudinal section, FIG. 2: a section along line II-II of FIG. 1 viewed in the direction of the arrow. The pump shaft 1 is mounted in the hub 2 of the flange 4 provided with a seal 3. This flange 4 is screwed to the housing 5 for the water circulation space 6. The free end of the pump shaft 1 protruding into this water circulation space 6 carries a water pump wheel 7.
When the pump shaft 1 rotates via the V-belt pulley 8 attached to this pump shaft, the cooling water of the internal combustion engine is set in motion in the water circulation space 6 in the direction of the arrow shown in FIG. The drive of the V-belt pulley 8 takes place in a manner not shown by a shaft of the internal combustion engine, the z. B. can consist of a gasoline or diesel engine.
On the outward end of the Pum penwelle 1 is the rotor of a fluid coupling. This fluid coupling consists of a vane pump driven by the pump shaft 1. Fig. 2 shows the rotor 9 of this vane pump with the radially slidably mounted vanes 10 in this. These vanes 10 are when the clutch is put into operation on the inner surface of the inner eccentric bush 11. This socket 11 is inserted into the cylindrical extension 12 of the end plate 13, which is connected to the housing jacket 14 by means of the screw connection 13a. The back of this housing jacket 14 is screwed to a plate 15 by means of screws 16 with a seal 17 in between.
This plate 15 is also provided with a seal 18 with respect to the pump shaft 1. In the cavity 19 of the pump shaft 1, the spring 20 lies between the valve plate 21 and the spring plate 22. The rod 23 is supported on the spring plate 22 and is supported in a bore in the pump shaft 1 and is connected to the thermostat 24 which in turn is screwed into the free end of the pump shaft 1 with a threaded piece 25. Axially at the front end of the Pum penwelle 1 is provided with an externally threaded adjusting screw 26 is used, in the bore of which a socket 27 is located. The inner end of this screw 26 or the inner end of the bushing 27 serves as a stop for the spring plate 21 and determines the spring length set in each case.
In order to change this valve spring 20 with regard to the clamping length, the end plate 13 is provided with a centrally arranged screw lock 28. After removing this screw cap 28, the adjusting screw 26 can be adjusted by inserting a suitable tool into the slot 29 of the adjusting screw 26.
Between the housing jacket 14 and the vane pump 9, 10, 11 there is a cavity. This cavity is filled with oil via the filling screw 30. If the pump shaft 1 is set in rotation via the V-belt wheel 8, the vane pump 9, 10, 11 conveys the oil supply. Then this oil supply within the housing 13, 14, 15 is set in order to run in the direction of the arrows shown in FIG. A high pressure space H and a low pressure space T are formed here. A stronger oil circulation is only possible if the valve disk 21 is ventilated by the liquid pressure generated in the high pressure chamber H.
The oil can then flow back from left to right through the cavity 19 receiving the spring 20 and from this cavity through the bores 31, 32 into the low pressure space T. As long as the valve 21, which acts as a pressure relief valve, remains closed, the amount of oil in the pump acts as a force-transmitting medium, and the speed difference between the primary part, namely the pump shaft 1 with V-belt pulley 8 and the secondary part, namely the housing 13, 14, 15, is only determined by the internal slippage of the pump as a result of the gap losses, which can be kept extremely small with the means of modern production. So it is a slip clutch, the speed difference is so long almost zero until the opening pressure of the pressure relief valve 21 is reached.
When the valve 21 is more or less open, the pressure difference between the high pressure chamber and the low pressure chamber determines the correspondingly varying speed difference between the pump shaft 1 and the housing 13, 14, 15.
The oil in this clutch is heated by its circulation within the clutch. In order to dissipate the resulting heat, the housing 14 is provided with ribs 31 on its outer surface. In order to forcibly guide the warmed oil along the inner surface of the housing shell 14, an oil bypass plate 32 is installed in the low pressure space for the oil supply. The end plate 13 is equipped with fan blades 33 by means of the screw connection 13ca, which are connected to the arms 34 by rivets 35.
If the cooling water temperature in the water circulation space 6 rises or falls, the valve spring 20 and thus the valve 21 are influenced accordingly via the thermostat 24 and the push rod 23, thus increasing or decreasing the fluid pressure in the oil circulation space within the clutch housing 13 , 14, 15, but this changes the speed difference between the housing 13, 14, 15 and the pump shaft 1 so that the fan blades 33 exert a greater or lesser cooling effect on the motor as required.
