Use of perylene derivatives for dyeing in bulk
It has been found that perylene derivatives of the formula
EMI1.1
wherein R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, conveniently after conversion into finely divided form, very good for dyeing in the mass, eg. B. for the production of printing inks, colored lacquers, plastics such as polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and polyethylene, masses of acetyl cellulose, for spinning certain polyamide and polyester melts or polyacrylonitrile or viscose solutions are suitable.
The preparation of the dyes of the formula (I) can be carried out by heating perylene-3,4,9,10-tetra-carboxylic acid or its anhydride with primary aliphatic amines, eg. B. by the method of German Patent No. 386057, optionally in the presence of solvents or diluents and reaction accelerators, such as. B. zinc chloride (U.S. Patent No. 2715127), or in wherein according to Medium (U.S. Patent No. 2,543,747).
Before use, the dyes are preferably brought into fine form, for example by reprecipitation from sulfuric acid or by grinding with grinding aids.
The dyed materials have good lightfastness and good wetfastness. Paint colors are overpainted, printing inks are overprintable and the colorations in plastics, e.g. B. in polyamide and polyester melts, e.g. B. in nylon, Perlon, Rilsan, Diolen, Dacron or Terylene (registered trademarks) are very heat-resistant. The majority of these dyes have very good fastness to migration in polyvinyl chloride.
Acetyl cellulose includes 21/2 acetate, which z. B. leads to the so-called Acetatreyon, and 3-acetate, from which, for example, the newer triacetate fiber is made to understand. You can use the finely ground dye in a spinning mass, e.g. B. from 2l / 2-acetate and acetone, disperse and grind the colored mass. The dye can also be used in a known manner before processing with acetyl cellulose, e.g. B. by grinding with solid grinding aids or by dissolving or swelling in concentrated sulfuric acid and precipitation in water, finely divided.
However, it is preferred to use dye preparations which contain the pigment in finely divided form in acetyl cellulose. Such preparations are obtained, for example, by grinding or kneading a mixture of pigment and acetyl cellulose in the presence of an organic solvent which only dissolves the acetyl cellulose but not the pigment, optionally with the addition of a grinding aid, and precipitation with water. These dye preparations are z. B. made into a paste with acetone and added to the spinning solution to be colored, or they can be stirred directly into the spinning solution. Spinning takes place in the usual way.
3-acetate can also be spun. As a solvent here z. B. a mixture of methylene chloride and methanol, preferably in a mixing ratio of 9: 1.
The following table shows some perylene derivatives of the formula (I) which are particularly suitable as pigments. They are identified by the remainder R as well as the color shade of the coloring in polyvinyl chloride.

In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight.
The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
0.1 part of pigment no. 1 (table) is made into a paste with 1 part of dioctyl phthalate. To this end, 100 parts of a previously prepared mixture of 60 parts of polyvinyl chloride, 40 parts of dioctyl phthalate and customary stabilizers are mixed. It is gelatinized for 10 minutes on a roll mill at 140-150, pressed at about 140 to form a film and a red-colored film of excellent lightfastness is obtained.
When such a film is stored between two white, dioctyl phthalate-containing polyvinyl chloride films in which the ratio of polyvinyl chloride to dioctyl phthalate is 70:30, for 72 hours at 70 "there is no migration of the dye into the white film.
Example 2
0.05 part of pigment no. 2 (table) are shaken with 100 parts of polyethylene granules for 10 minutes. The mixture is rolled between a 1200 hot and a 1500 hot roller until the dye is homogeneously distributed in the polyethylene. After cooling, the colored mass is comminuted to approximately 2 to 4 mm large grains and then processed into shaped bodies in the usual way, for example in an injection molding machine. Red moldings with good fastness properties are obtained.
Example 3
1 part of pigment no. 3 (table) and 5 parts of alumina hydrate are processed on a three-roll mill with linseed oil varnish to give a printing ink which gives red prints on paper which are good fastness to light and turbidity.
Example 4
1 part of pigment no. 4 is ground in a ball mill with 10 parts of a solid grinding aid, such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride or carbonate, urea or phthalic acid, until the crystals of the crude dye have essentially disappeared. The ground material is mixed with water and, if an acid-soluble or alkali-soluble grinding aid was used, with the addition of hydrochloric acid or
Sodium hydroxide solution, stirred and finally freed from the grinding aid by filtering and washing out.
The dye obtained can be distributed better and more quickly in polyvinyl chloride.
Example 5
A mixture of 100 parts of cellite, 400 parts of acetone and 1 part of pigment no. 5 (table) is ground in a ball mill until a film that is formed when pouring onto a glass plate can no longer be seen under the microscope with particles larger than 1 μm leaves. A red thread obtained by spinning is extremely lightfast and can withstand all common treatments without any loss of color strength.
Example 6
A mixture of 100 parts of cellite, 100 parts of pigment No. 6 (Table), 400 parts of sodium chloride and 200 parts of acetone is kneaded until a sample cast into a film contains essentially no particles above 1 tc. The mixture is then introduced into water, the precipitate obtained is filtered off, washed free of salt and the preparation obtained is dried. If 2 parts of this are added to an acetyl cellulose spinning solution made from 100 parts of cellite and 400 parts of acetone and then spun, real colored red rayon is obtained.
