B. Salzsäure oder p-To- luolsulfosäure.
Genannt seien :
JS-Tetrahydrobenzylalkohol,
6-Methyl-d 3-tetrahydrobenzyl : alkohol,
2, 4, 6-Trimethyl-/f3trahydrobenzylalkohol,
2, 5-Endomethylen-d3-tetrahydrobenzylalkohol und 4-Chlor-d3-tetrahydrobenzylalkohol.
Als Aldehyde bzw. Ketone der Formel (VI), die mit den Alkoholen der Formel (V) acetalisiert bzw. ketalysiert werden, kommen solche der aliphati- schen, cycloaliphatischen, araliphatischen, aromatischen und heterocyclischen Reihe in Frage. Unter den Aldehyden bzw. Ketonen der aliphatischen Reihe seien genannt : Acetaldehyd, Propionaldehyd, Butyraldehyd, Valeraldehyd, Oenanthaldehyd, Caproalde- hyd, Caprylaldehyd, Laurinaldehyd, Stearinaldehyd und insbesondere Formaldehyd bzw. Paraformalde- hyd ; Acrolein, Crotonaldehyd ; Glyoxal, Succinalde hyd, Malealdehyd ; Chloral, Monochloracetaldehyd, Aldol ;

EMI3.1

Depending on whether one starts from a uniform alcohol of the formula (V) or from a mixture of 2 or more such alcohols, symmetrically constructed acetals or ketals or mixtures of the symmetrically constructed and of the asymmetrically constructed acetals or ketals are obtained.
The acetalization can be carried out by methods known per se, such as. B. by heating an alcohol of formula (V) together with the aldehyde or ketone of formula (VI) in the prescribed molar ratio, wherein the alcohol can also be present in excess, in the presence of an acidic catalyst, such as. B. hydrochloric acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid.
The unsaturated cyclic alcohols of the formula (V) are derivatives of tetrahydrobenzene. The following are mentioned:
JS tetrahydrobenzyl alcohol,
6-methyl-d 3-tetrahydrobenzyl: alcohol,
2, 4, 6-trimethyl / tetrahydrobenzyl alcohol,
2,5-endomethylene-d3-tetrahydrobenzyl alcohol and 4-chloro-d3-tetrahydrobenzyl alcohol.
Suitable aldehydes or ketones of the formula (VI) which are acetalized or ketalized with the alcohols of the formula (V) are those of the aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic series. It has been found that when the epoxy compounds mentioned are cured with carboxylic acid anhydrides, advantageously only about 0.3 to 0.9 gram equivalents of anhydride groups are used to 1 gram equivalent of epoxy group.
It has also been found that for a number of technical applications the properties of the cured acetals or ketals epoxidized according to the invention are favorably influenced if they contain a certain proportion of otherwise corresponding acetals or ketals, the epoxy groups of which, however, have been wholly or partially saponified to hydroxyl groups , contain. Since as a rule in the epoxidation according to the invention in addition to the di- or. As a result of side reactions, the corresponding wholly or only partially hydrolyzed epoxides, which are desired as admixtures, are formed at the same time, so it is generally advisable to isolate the pure di- or.
