Process for the preparation of new thiophene derivatives The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new, valuable thiophene derivatives of the formula
EMI0001.0000
where R1 and R2 are hydrogen or methyl.
The inventive method is characterized in that corresponding o-hydroxy aminobenzenes at higher temperatures and preferably in the presence of catalysts with thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid of the formula
EMI0001.0004
or their functional acid derivatives. 1-Amino-2-oxy-benzene, 1-amino-2-oxy-4-methyl-benzene or 1-amino-2-oxy-5-methyl-benzene can be used as starting materials.
As other starting materials for the present process, as said, thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid or its functional derivatives, eg. B. Esters used. Among the esters, in particular those with low molecular weight aliphatic alcohols come into consideration, for example the dimethyl ester or diethyl ester.
The two starting materials, namely the stated o-oxy-aminobenzenes and the dicarboxylic acid or the stated functional derivatives, are advantageously reacted with one another at least approximately in the theoretically correct quantitative ratio, that is, to 1 mol of the dicarboxylic acid or the stated functional derivatives one 2 moles of the o-oxy-aminobenzene or an amount deviating only slightly from this. The reaction between the two components takes place, as stated, at higher temperatures, for example at 160 to 260 C. The reaction is preferably carried out in an inert gas, e.g. B. a nitrogen stream, and in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. B.
Boric acid or polyphosphoric acids. The reaction is advantageously conducted in such a way that compounds of the formula (1) are formed immediately, that is to say that the acylation of the o-amino compounds and the oxazole ring closure take place in one operation.
The course of the reaction can e.g. B. for the implementation of 1 mole of thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid with 2 moles of 1 - amino - 2 - oxy - benzene are shown schematically as follows:
EMI0002.0000
If boric acid is used as the catalyst, it is advantageously used in an amount of about 0.5 to 51 / o, based on the total weight of the reaction mass. Optionally, when using boric acid, an inert high-boiling solvent such. B. dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene or p-cymene can also be used.
The new thiophene derivatives of the formula (1) obtainable according to the invention have a more or less pronounced fluorescence in a dissolved or finely divided state. Depending on their constitution, they can be used to make organic material impermeable to ultraviolet rays for the optical brightening of organic material, in particular fiber material, or as intermediates in the manufacture of dyes.
The use of the new fluorescent compounds, which are used for optical brightening, can be done in such a way that the material to be refined is soaked with aqueous dispersions and dried after being spun off or squeezed off. In addition to the aqueous dispersions mentioned, solutions in organic solvents can also be used for finishing. It is also possible to treat materials with the compounds in dispersed form, e.g. B. with dispersions obtained with dispersants such as soaps, soap-like substances, polyglycol ethers of fatty alcohols, sulfite waste liquor or condensation products of optionally alkylated naphthalenesulfonic acids with formaldehyde.
The new thiophene derivatives suitable as brightening agents can also be used in the course of the manufacturing process for the materials to be refined by z. B. a paper mass or a viscose solution, which is intended for the production of films or threads, or also another spinning mass, z. B. such a linear, synthetic polyamide or a solution of acetyl cellulose intended for spinning.
The new thiophene derivatives serving as lightening agents can also be used as follows: a) As a mixture with dyes or as an additive to dye baths, printing, etching or reserve pastes. Also for the aftertreatment of dyeings, prints or etching prints.
b) In mixtures with chemical bleaching agents or as an additive to bleach baths.
c) In a mixture with finishing agents such as starch or synthetically accessible finishes. The products according to the invention can, for example, also be added to the liquors used to achieve a crease-resistant finish.
d) In combination with detergents. The detergent and brightening agent can be added separately to the washing baths to be used. It is also advantageous to use detergents that contain the brightening agents mixed in. As Waschmit tel, for example, soaps, salts of sulfonate detergents, such as.
B. of sulfonated benzimidazoles substituted on the 2-carbon atom by higher alkyl radicals, also salts of monocarboxylic acid esters of 4-sulfophthalic acid with higher fatty alcohols, furthermore salts of fatty alcohol sulfonates, alkylarylsulfonic acids or condensation products of higher fatty acids with aliphatic oxy or Aminosulfonic acids. Furthermore, ion-free detergents can be used, e.g. B. polyglycol ethers, which are derived from ethylene oxide and higher fatty alcohols, alkylphenols or fatty amines.
