Process for stretching blown films in the longitudinal and transverse directions
The invention relates to a method for stretching blown films in the longitudinal and transverse directions.
It is known to produce non-oriented hoses from high polymers, such as polyethylene, polyamides, polyesters, polyvinylidene chloride and others, by blowing the thermoplastic emerging from an annular nozzle, whereby films are initially formed without substantial internal stretching.
Furthermore, it is known to re-inflate the polymer tube obtained after leaving a first pair of squeeze rollers by temporarily puncturing a probe or the like in such a way that sufficient stretching in the longitudinal and transverse axes is achieved within the path to a second pair of squeezing rollers.
According to another known method, tubular films made of thermoplastic polymers are cold-drawn in such a way that the film is continuously passed through two pairs of press rollers, the second of which can run at the same or a higher speed than the first. A volatile medium is held between these two pairs of rollers within the film tube.
The hose is warped by reducing the distance between the two press rollers after the gaseous agent has been introduced until the desired diameter of the inflated hose is reached.
It has now been found that blown films oriented in the longitudinal and transverse directions can be obtained without the use of additional press rolls if the tube emerging from the nozzle is passed through at temperatures of 5 to 200 below the softening point, but above the temperature of the second order conversion A first channel leads in which there is a pressure which corresponds to the internal pressure of the blown air in the hose, after which the now solidified, essentially amorphous hose passes a highly polished tube heated to at most the same temperature, the inner diameter of which is equal to the diameter of the hose . The hose is then fed into a second heated channel in which the pressure is lower than in the first channel. As a result, the tubular film is inflated and stretched in the process.
The pressure conditions in the second channel can be varied so that any desired stretching can be achieved.
In detail, in a preferred embodiment of the process according to the invention, one can proceed in such a way that the thermoplastic polymer is pressed out through an annular nozzle by means of an extruder. The resulting hose, which has a small diameter, enters a channel directly below the nozzle that is closely connected to the screw press and opens out at its lower end into a polished, heated pipe. A second duct with a larger diameter is connected to this polished tube, which is equipped for additional heating with infrared radiation, steam or hot air. At the lower end of this second channel, the hose is pulled off by a pair of press rollers of the usual type and transported further in a known manner.
By inflating the inside of the hose with the aid of a gas channel arranged inside the ring nozzle, the diameter of the blown film is initially increased so that the hose rests firmly against the highly polished pipe. The temperature of the hose when it enters the tube is about 5 to 200 below its softening temperature, but above the temperature of the second order transformation.
This is achieved by temperature control with hot air or the like in the first channel, the heating medium z. B. moved cyclone-like above the ring nozzle around the hose to then escape again before the approach of the pipe. The highly polished tube is kept at the same temperature or at a temperature that is only slightly lower than that of the first channel.
The stretching of the tubular film is achieved in that the internal pressure is increased in such a way that with a corresponding increase in the external pressure in the first channel in order to maintain the tube diameter in this part, in the second channel using a temperature favorable for the stretching and under external conditions Normal pressure inflation of the blown film takes place.
According to the inventive method, all thermoplastic polymers that are suitable for blown film production, such as. B. polyolefins, soft or hard polyynyl chloride or its copolymers, polymers and copolymers of vinylidene chloride, copolymers of acrylonitrile and condensation polymers, eg. B. polyamides, polyesters, polycarbonates and others process.
The hoses obtained can be used directly as so-called tubular films, but also z. B. be fixed to stable films by post-shrinkage.
Using an example of a device for carrying out the method shown in the drawing, the same is explained below:
A polyvinyl chloride stabilized with 1 / o dibutyltin dilaurate and having a K value of 60 is fed via a screw press 1 to a blow head 2 with a central air supply 3 and is pressed out of this into a channel 4 as a tubular film. The film has a diameter of 200 mm and a wall thickness of 400 to 500
The channel 4, which has a length of 750 mm and an inner diameter of 300 mm, is equipped with inlet and outlet lines 5, 6 for hot air. A temperature of about 750 is maintained in this channel 4. The supply of hot air through the air supply lines 3 and 5 is adjusted in such a way that the hose inside the channel 4 is prevented from inflating.
A polished tube 7 is placed on the channel 4 and has a length of 100 mm and a diameter of 200 mm. The temperature of this pipe is also regulated to 75O. After leaving the pipe 7, the tubular film enters a second channel 8 which is equipped with radially attached infrared radiators 9 and heated to a temperature of 100 to 110. This channel has a length of 1500 to 2000 mm and an inner diameter of 800 to 900 mm. By covering the hose outlet (not shown), e.g. B. by a diaphragm at the end of the channel 8, the most exact possible heat balance is guaranteed.
After setting the above-mentioned basic conditions, the pressure in the second channel is set in such a way that here a transverse and longitudinal stretching of 21/2 to 3 times occurs, whereby the hose is inflated by setting a corresponding counter pressure of the temperature control air entering through line 5 in channel 4 is avoided. When the hose emerges from the channel 8, it is cooled and squeezed off and finally wound up in a flattened form.
