<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device operated by water pressure for automatically switching the heating of a water flow heater on and off The invention relates to a device operated by water pressure for automatically switching on and off the heating of a water flow heater, the device being arranged in the housing of the switching device between a high pressure chamber and a low pressure chamber The adjusting element of the switching device is coupled to the control body of a water volume regulator and is actuated by the suction effect of a venturi tube arranged in the water flow,
whose narrowest point is connected to the low-pressure chamber of the switching device by a suction channel, while a bypass channel that branches off in the flow direction of the water behind the water flow regulator, but in front of the Venturi tube and opens into the main waterway behind its narrowest point to increase the temperature of the water to be withdrawn a throttle member can be progressively shut off, the bypass channel opening into a storage space before it joins the main waterway, which is connected both to the main waterway and to the suction channel of the Venturi tube.
In such devices without storage space of the last-mentioned type, the Venturi tube was previously tightly connected to the housing of the shaft device in front of and behind its narrowest point, into which the suction channel coming from the low-pressure chamber opens, so that the suction channel exclusively through the one at the narrowest point of the Venturi tube occurring negative pressure was influenced.
With this arrangement, it has now been found to be disadvantageous that when the bypass channel is fully open, the flow regulator following the movements of the adjusting member of the switching device only releases a small annular gap for the amount of water flowing through, because the adjusting member of the water switch strives by means of the flow regulating body influenced by it to always maintain the same pressure difference in front of and behind the narrowest point of the venturi. This has the result that the amount of water flowing through the annular gap of the regulator remains undesirably small when the bypass channel is open.
A gas-water heater is known with a throttle point which generates a dynamic pressure in a storage space and which forms the inlet of a low-pressure space which is connected to the low-pressure chamber. A bypass channel opens into this storage space before the confluence with the main waterway, which is connected both to the main waterway and via the throttle point to the suction channel to the low-pressure chamber. Although it can be achieved in this way that when the bypass channel is open, a correspondingly larger amount of water than previously flows through the heater, however, precise regulation of the amount of water cannot be guaranteed.
In order to remedy this deficiency, a device of the type mentioned is designed in such a way that the storage space is arranged in a ring around the part of the same located in the flow direction behind the narrowest point of the venturi tube and via throttle openings both with the narrowest point of the Venturi tube surrounding annular space as well as with the interior of the Venturi tube is in communication. This reliably achieves a reduction in the negative pressure in the suction channel of the Venturi tube and thus also in the low-pressure chamber when the bypass channel is opened.
The consequence of this is that the adjusting element of the water switch gradually opens the bypass
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
channel arranged throttle member moves with increasing amount of water, for example, downwards, so that z. B. an annular gap released by the quantity control body is enlarged. This in turn ensures that when the bypass channel is open, a correspondingly larger amount of regulated water flows through the heater than before.
An arrangement is particularly advantageous in which the openings arranged at the widening outlet end of the Venturi tube, which connect the storage space with the interior of the Venturi tube, have an overall significantly larger cross section than an annular gap between the Venturi tube connecting the said annular space to the suction channel of the Venturi tube and the wall of the housing bore receiving this venturi.
It is advisable to provide a radially protruding collar on the part of the Venturi tube located behind the narrowest point of the Venturi tube in the flow direction of the water, which separates the suction channel of the Venturi tube from the storage space in which the bypass channel opens, leaving a narrow annular gap. The cross section of the throttle opening, which connects the storage space into which the bypass channel opens, with the suction channel of the Venturi tube, is about half as large as the cross section of the suction openings of the Venturi tube.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing; The figures show: FIG. 1 a schematic representation of a device actuated by water pressure, FIG. 2 a cross section through the Venturi tube arranged in the housing of the switching device.
The low-water protection of a water heater shown in FIG. 1 has, in a known manner, a lower housing part 10, which encloses a high-pressure chamber 10 ', and a housing part 11, which encloses a low-pressure chamber 11'. The high pressure chamber 10 ′ is separated from the low pressure chamber 11 ′ by a membrane 12. The high pressure chamber 10 ′ is connected to the water supply line 13. A throttle bore 14 is provided between the cold water inlet line 13 and the high pressure chamber 10 ', in which a movable regulating body 15 is arranged when the water heater is in operation, the regulating surface of which forms an annular gap with the wall of the throttle bore.
The upper end of the support pin 16 of the control body 15 is fastened to a membrane plate 17 which rests against the membrane 12 under the pressure of a spring 18. The high-pressure chamber 10 'is connected by a channel 19 to a Venturi tube 20, the narrowest point 20' of which is connected to the low-pressure chamber 11 'via an intake channel 21. A heater line 22 leads from the Venturi tube 20 to a heat exchanger 23, which is preferably designed as a lamellar heater, and from this a hot water line 24 leads to a hot water tap valve 25 with a hot water outlet 26.
Furthermore, a line 27, which bypasses the narrowest point of the Venturi tube 20 and in which a manually adjustable throttle valve 28 is installed, branches off from the high-pressure chamber 10 '. By means of this throttle valve, the bypass line 27 can be completely shut off and gradually opened or closed again.
A diaphragm plate 29, which acts on the lower end of a valve pin 30, is arranged on the upper side of the diaphragm 12. The upper end of this valve pin carries the valve body 31 of a gas valve, which controls the gas supply from the gas supply line 32 to the burner 33 of a gas-heated instantaneous water heater, shown schematically. The device described so far is known.
According to FIG. 2, the Venturi tube 20 is arranged in the lower housing part 10 within a multiple offset bore 34. The Venturi tube 20 is provided at its narrowest point 20 'with radial holes 35 which open into an annular space 36, from which the suction line 21 leads to the low-pressure chamber 11'. The front part of the Venturi tube 20 has a radially projecting collar 37 in front of the holes 35, in which a groove for receiving a sealing ring 38 is present. A complete seal between the Venturi tube 20 and the part of the wall of the bore 34 located in front of the annular space 36 is achieved by this ring.
Behind the holes 35 at the narrowest point 20 'of the Venturi tube 20 there is another radially projecting collar 39, which however does not rest against the housing 10, so that an annular gap 40 with a radial ring width of about 0.2 mm is created. The cross-section of the annular gap 40 is about half as large as the total cross-section of the holes 35 at the narrowest point 20 'of the Venturi tube 20. Finally, the Venturi tube 20 is equipped at its rear end with a third collar 41, which leads to the heat exchanger 23 Pipeline 22 rests in a sealing manner. The pipeline 22 is firmly connected to the housing part 10 by a union nut 42 by means of a pressure piece 43.
In this arrangement, the bypass line 27 opens into an annular storage space 44 which is arranged around the part of the latter located behind the narrowest point of the venturi and communicates with the interior of the venturi 20 behind its narrowest point through openings 45. In a known manner, a so-called slow ignition device 46 is also installed in the intake channel 21, which delays the penetration of the negative pressure arising at the narrowest point of the venturi tube 20 into the space 11 '.
The device shown in the drawing works as follows: If - for example with the throttle valve 28 in the bypass line 27 closed - the hot water tap valve 25 is opened, the water that now begins to flow through the valve
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
turirohr 20 creates a negative pressure in the low-pressure chamber 11 'above the membrane 12. As a result, the membrane 12 is arched upwards by the excess pressure of the tap water. The membrane 12 lifts the valve pin 30 and the gas valve body 31 via the spring plate 29 and thereby opens the gas passage to the burner 33 in a known manner.
With the gas valve open, fuel gas can now flow from the gas supply line 32 to the burner 33, where it is ignited by the constantly burning flame of a pilot burner. Furthermore, with the membrane 12 under the pressure of the spring 18, the regulating body 15 has also moved upwards, which ensures that the same amount of water always flows through the heater.
If a larger amount of water at a lower temperature is to be withdrawn from the nozzle 25, the throttle valve 28 must be gradually opened by hand. The regulated amount of water then flows from the high-pressure chamber 10 'not only through the channel 19, but also through the bypass line 27. Before it flows into the main waterway, the amount of water flowing through the bypass line 27 enters the annular space 44, in which a stagnation of this water occurs .
The dynamic pressure that forms in the storage space 44 influences the negative pressure in the annular space 36 surrounding the narrowest point 20 'of the Venturi tube via the annular gap 40, in such a way that when the dynamic pressure rises due to a larger amount of water flowing through the bypass line 27 Vacuum on the top of the membrane 12 is reduced. The membrane therefore moves slightly downwards. As a result, the annular gap between the wall of the throttle bore 14 and the regulating body 15 is enlarged, so that an additional amount of water corresponding to the opening width of the bypass channel 27 is let through by the regulator.
In order to be able to use the Venturi tube also in devices (not according to the invention) in which no bypass line and associated elements (44, 45) are provided, the collar 39 also has a groove for receiving an O-ring.
If the hot water tap valve 25 is closed, the flow of water stops, so that a pressure equalization occurs between the high pressure chamber 10 'and the low pressure chamber 11'. As a result, the membrane 12 moves downwards and the gas valve closes. The gas supply to the burner 33 ceases.
