Wenn Dicyan- diamid in einer Wirbelschicht ohne Adsorbenzien in einem Temperaturbereich von 180-350 C in Me- lamin umgewandelt wird, ballt sich die Teilchenmasse von Dicyandiamid notgedrungen zusammen und macht eine weitere Verwirbelung unmöglich, da das Dicyandiamid vor seiner Umwandlung schmilzt;

Process for the production of melamine The industrial production of melamm has hitherto generally been carried out under a high pressure of 10 to 300 kg / cm in order to prevent the emergence of deamidation products, e.g. B. of melam, melem, mellon and others, which can otherwise arise in large quantities during the conversion of dicyandiamide into melamine.
Such a manufacturing process, however, necessarily requires a varied working method, d'i'e is inevitable in a high pressure process and makes a continuous Liche mode of operation difficult.
Various cooling devices and other heat-absorbing materials have been used in the reaction of dicyandiamide at atmospheric pressure, but only a yield of about 6011 / o melamine was obtained. The use of silica gel in the production of melamine from urea under atmospheric pressure cannot be compared with the high pressure process, since in the former case the yield of melamine drops to about 30%.
The inventive method for producing melamine is now characterized in that in a reaction chamber which is kept at a temperature of 180 to 350 C, porous active adsorbents are kept in the fluidized state by an ammonia-containing gas stream, and that in the fluidized bed Cyanamide or a material which forms cyanamide under the reaction conditions is introduced,
The cyanamide is then converted into melamine, and the gaseous melamine emerging from the chamber with the gas stream is condensed by cooling.
If dicyandiamide is converted into melamine in a fluidized bed without adsorbents in a temperature range of 180-350 C, the particle mass of dicyandiamide inevitably agglomerates and makes further turbulence impossible, since the dicyandiamide melts before its conversion;
it is therefore, as I said, the porous active adsorbent, which must of course be stable in the temperature range and at atmospheric pressure, first introduced into the reaction vessel to form a fluidized bed, in which then, for.
B. a raw material containing dicyandiamide is partially introduced so that the dicyandiamide can be adsorbed in a finely divided state at the temperature by the porous active adsorbents and its agglomeration is prevented. In this way a uniform vortex condition is maintained.
Also z. B. the cyanamide is adsorbed by the porous active adsorbents without menzuballen together, and kept in distributed form. The peculiarity of the fluidized bed reaction enables the conversion to proceed very smoothly and steadily, the melamine that is formed sublimates immediately and is discharged through the gas that causes the fluidization.
As a result, local overheating and decomposition of the melamine produced by heat, which would bring about a reduction in the yield, is prevented and a melamine of great purity is obtained in the same or greater yield than with the high-pressure process.
The porous active adsorbents that can be used for this process are silica gel, active clay, activated fuller's earth, active carbon and others whose individual pore openings preferably have a cross-section that is larger than the cross-section of the melamine-in-molecule; the surface area given by the pores should be as large as possible.
In this way one can with certainty get a greater processing capacity per unit weight and a higher yield of melamine than usual.
The gaseous melamine obtained in this process can, if necessary, after it has been discharged from the fluidized bed by the gas causing the fluidization, be passed into a separator for solids and gas which is kept in the same temperature range as the reaction vessel. This separator cleans the melamine produced to greater purity.
In this way, very pure melamine can be obtained in a continuous manner from the starting materials mentioned, while only crude melamine could be produced by the known processes.
A small amount of deamidation products, apart from the portion discharged from the layer together with the melamine by the swirling gas, remains on the porous active substances and gradually reduces their activity and adsorption. In such times, the substances mentioned must be removed from the layer and chemically or thermally treated for their reuse, which does not cause any difficulties.
The gas velocity should be 2 cm per second or higher so that the particle mass can move steadily. When the amount of e.g. B. Dicyandiamide, which is abandoned, is too large for the mass of porous active:
Adsorbents, so he increases the viscosity in the fluidized bed and prevents the vortex ver. This shortens the life of the porous active adsorbents and reduces the yield of melamine. The amount of starting material given per hour should therefore be smaller than that of the porous active adsorbents.
As a starting material, dieyandiamide or dicyandiamide-containing material, e.g. B. getrock netes, dicyan- diamide produced from calcium cyanamide in a known manner without removing the residue.
The following is an example of the procedure according to the invention, which is illustrated with the help of the accompanying drawing: In a reaction vessel, in which conversion and sublimation are carried out simultaneously, the fluidized bed 1 is achieved by a gas stream, which at an inlet pipe 3 through the Filter 2 is blown; the starting material is introduced through feed pipe 4. The fluidized bed 1 is heated with a suitable heating device, e.g.
B. an electric heating coil 5, which is attached to the outer wall, heated to 180-350C. An inert gas, e.g. B. nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon monoxide or flue gas or mixtures thereof containing ammonia gas is blown in, whereby the stable porous active adsorbents, z. B. silica gel, active clay, active carbon and activated bleaching earth, are fluidized.
Materials containing dicyandiamide are introduced into this particle mass through the inlet pipe 4, so that they are converted into melamine during the swirling. The melamine formed sublimates when it swirls in the layer and is carried with the swirling gas through the discharge pipe 6 into the cooler 7, the temperature of which is kept below 180 ° C. by air, water or saline solution.
The gaseous melamine is cooled here and then taken up in the crystallized state by the collecting vessel 12 of the cyclone 9, the bag filter 10 and the collecting vessel 11.
If necessary, a separator kept at the same temperature as the reaction vessel can be attached somewhere on the pipe 6 which: connects the reaction vessel to the condenser 7 so that solid deamidized products contained in the melamine-containing gas , can be separated.
In this case, the melamine received in the collecting vessels 11 and 12 is definitely 99% pure.
When the melamine still contained in the gas is collected in the bag filter 10, the gas is partially removed through the discharge pipe 13 and partially replenished with fresh gas through the inlet pipe 14 and passed through the bed again.
The pipe 16 is used for the supply of the porous active adsorbents and the pipe 17 for their discharge, whereby the continuity of the process is not interrupted.
Devices of any type, mechanism and construction known for the above purposes can be used and connected either individually, in parallel, or in series as long as they are suitable for the present invention. Any periodic supply of raw materials or removal of the finished product, etc. can also be used.
Example 1: Porous active adsorbents were whirled up by ammonia gas in a reaction vessel which was kept in a temperature range of 300-320 C; Dicyandiamide was continuously introduced into the fluidized bed, converted into melamine and sublimed. When choosing porous active adsorbents which are used for the process according to the invention, great attention should therefore be paid to the distribution of the specific active surface of the adsorbent, since the surfaces of the pores whose pore opening cross sections are smaller than the cross section of the melamine molecule , are not effective as adsorption surfaces.

Dicyandiamide (24-32 meshes / 10 mm) was introduced into the fluidized bed at a rate of 12 parts per hour and processed as in Example 1.
Under these conditions it was found that the relationship between the concentration of ammonia used and the yield of melamine was as follows:

However, when oxygen was used as a diluent instead of nitrogen, the yield of melamine was reduced in each case.
When ammonia was mixed with furnace gas or generator gas, the following results were obtained:
