Method for fastening the clamping sleeve of an electrical connector to an electrical conductor inserted into the clamping sleeve, electrical connector for carrying out the method and electrical connection produced according to the method The patent relates to a method for fastening the clamping sleeve of an electrical connector to an electrical conductor inserted into the clamping sleeve , an electrical connector for executing the method and an electrical connection established by the method.
There are already various methods of calling the clamping sleeves electrical connection parts have been applied to electrical conductors lying in these clamping sleeves. According to all of these methods, the clamping sleeve was pressed onto the conductor by a force applied to dies acting directly on the clamping sleeve.
According to the present patent, pressure is exerted directly on the clamping sleeve by means of a pressure medium in order to deform the clamping sleeve into intimate connection with the conductor. Although it is not necessary that the pressure of the medium acts around the entire circumference of the clamping sleeve, it is useful if this is the case, since the connecting piece is deformed in this way so that it takes the shape of the conductor and such a smooth, uniform, embossed connection that cannot be achieved by other processes.
An electrical connector required to carry out this method is characterized by at least one chamber within the wall of the clamping sleeve and by means for applying the pressure of a pressure medium in the chamber to deform the inner wall of the chamber into intimate connection with the conductor.
Furthermore, the electrical connection produced in this way has the same external shape as the undeformed conductor and the cross section of the conductor part lying within the connection is smaller than the cross section of the conductor part lying outside the connection.
The pressure of the medium can be obtained hydraulically or pneumatically and can act from an external source in the chamber. Preferably, however, the pressure of the medium by a pressure-generating substance, e.g. B. by exploding an explosive powder filled into the chamber.
Exemplary embodiments of the invention are described with reference to the accompanying drawings; It shows: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a connecting piece, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the connecting piece, Fig. 3 is a cross section along the line III-III of Fig. 2, Fig. 4 is a representation of the connecting piece corresponding to Fig. 2, after this has been connected to the conductor,
5 shows a cross section along the line V-V in FIG. 4; FIG. 6 shows a cross section through the clamping sleeve of another connecting piece with the conductor located therein, but before the clamping sleeve is deformed; Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a further connecting piece partially cut out and Fig. 8 is a longitudinal section of a further connec tion piece with an insulated conductor lying therein before the deformation of the clamping sleeve.
The connec tion piece shown in Figs. 1 to 5 has a clamping sleeve 10 and an associated annular shoulder 12, which is used for connecting the clamping sleeve with another electrical conductor. Instead of a ring approach, differently shaped approaches can be provided. The clamping sleeve 10 has a central bore 20 serving to receive a conductor 18. The collet is cylindrical and the bore extends along the axis of the collet. The clamping sleeve has an inner and an outer wall 22 and 24, which form an annular chamber 26 which is coaxial with the clamping sleeve.
In the outer wall 24 of the clamping sleeve 10, a passage 28 is provided. A sleeve M surrounding the clamping sleeve forms a sealed chamber 14 on the outer surface of the clamping sleeve, in that sealing means 30 and 32 prevent the escape of the pressure medium. The sleeve also has a passage 29 which is aligned with the passage 28.
By inserting the bare end of a conductor 18 centrally into the clamping sleeve and by deforming the clamping sleeve 10 as a result of the action of a pressure medium through the passages 28 and 29 in the chamber 26, an electrical connection is created. This cold forming results in a connection with intimate contact between the clamping sleeve 10 and the conductor 18. Since the chambers 14 and 26 are connected to one another, the same pressure prevails in both, so that the deformation of the outer wall 24 is reduced. If the outer wall is nevertheless deformed to expand, the sleeve M provides a counter hold for the wall.
Notwithstanding this, the sleeve M can surround the clamping sleeve completely tightly, in which case it is only effective as a counter-hold. After the pressure medium was effective, can - as can be seen from FIGS. 4 and 5 - the sleeve M be removed ent; the electrical connection created is approximately circular in the transverse step, a significant reduction in the cross-sectional area of the conductor 18 having taken place.
Instead of applying the pressure within the wall of the clamping sleeve, it can also act in a chamber which is formed around the outside of the clamping sleeve by a sleeve - as shown at M in FIGS. 1 to 3, or the clamping sleeve could be inserted into a Insert a hollow shape, which forms a chamber around the clamping sleeve on the outside.
The connecting piece shown in FIG. 6 has a chamber in the clamping sleeve which is fully closed and filled with an explosive powder 40. The conductor 18 is inserted into the ferrule and the powder is made to explode. It can, similar to the connector according to FIGS. 1 to 5, a sleeve M similar to the sleeve can be used ver to prevent expansion of the outer wall of the clamping sleeve, or you could hold the outer wall stronger for this purpose. Figure 7 shows a connector for use on an insulated conductor.
The clamping sleeve of the connecting piece consists of two coaxial parts 34 and 36, which form two tightly sealed chambers 126 and 128 within the wall of the clamping sleeve. The part 34 has at that end from wel chem the conductor is inserted, a larger Boh tion to accommodate the insulation. The connec tion piece is clamped by the action of a pressure medium in the chambers 126 and 128 on the conductor by bringing the inner wall of the clamping sleeve under the wall of the chamber 126 with the conductor core and under the wall of the chamber 128 with the insulation in intimate connection becomes. After the connection has been made, an insulating sleeve 130 can be pushed onto the end piece.
In the case of a connecting piece in which no passage in the outer wall of the clamping sleeve is necessary, the insulating sleeve can be attached directly to the connecting piece before the clamping operation.
The connector is shown in Figure 8 as it is prior to the clamping operation. It is similar to the connector shown in Figure 7, but with only one chamber instead of two. The wall of the clamping sleeve is thicker at 240, where it surrounds the insulation, than at 242, so that the deformation of the wall is smaller at 240 than at 242.
