Machine for pleating sheets The present invention relates to a machine for pleating sheets.
With this machine, for example by progressively advancing the sheet or the strip, it is possible to execute such a number of successive pleating waves. that one wishes, that these waves all have an identical or variable pitch and (or) depth.
The machine according to the invention is characterized by two articulated gripper branches, presenting between them an adjustable spacing at will, and one of which, of shorter length than the other, comprises a punch sliding in the extension of this shorter branch in order to be able to come,
by its free end, substantially at the same height as the longest clamp branch, by blank presses intended to clamp the sheet against the end of each clamp branch, by a movable central punch intended to initiate a wave of wise folds leading to a first approximation of the aforementioned clamp branches,
and by a device intended to exert a complementary force to bring these gripper branches together when the effect of the central punch has decreased.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically, in sectional elevation, an embodiment, given by way of example, of the object of the present invention.
In the machine shown in the drawing, A is a pleating sheet or strip, which can be driven in the direction of the arrow using a set of driving rolls 1.
2 and 3 are the ends of two gripper branches 4 and 5, articulated respectively at 6 and 7.
The gripper branches 4-5 are shown open; their spacing can be adjusted at will by any known means (not shown).
Along the end 3 of the gripper branch 5, shorter than the end 2 of the other gripper branch 4, can slide a punch 8 that a jack 9 can drive in an upward or downward movement .
10 is a movable central punch, arranged in the axis of the two aforementioned gripper branches, and capable of moving vertically downward or upward by means of two rods 11, each secured to a horizontal bar of end 12 which carries the joints 13 of piston rods of two jacks 14.
The cylinders 9 and 14 can be pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders. Any other device for vertically dragging the central piston 10 could also be considered.
The operation of the machine is as follows.Once the gripper branches 4 and 5 are open to the desired spacing, we begin by clamping the sheet or strip A, on the one hand between the upper end 2 of the clamp 4 and the blank press 15, pushed down by any suitable means (not shown), on the other hand between the end of the punch 8 (actuated upwards by the jack 9) and the fixed blank press 16 or pushed down by any suitable means.
By actuating the jacks 14, the central punch 10 is then lowered vertically, which exerts pressure on the sheet or the strip A and initiates the pleating thereof, while causing a movement of bringing together of the two assemblies: end 2 of the branch of clamp 4 and hold-down 15, punch 8 and hold-down 16.
From a relative position of the moving parts, the action of the central punch 10 becomes insufficient after a certain downward stroke of the latter: a device is then made to act intended to exert a complementary effect of bringing the two gripper branches together. 4 and 5.
This device consists of two cylinders 17 and 18, pneumatic or hydraulic, the pistons of which act: one -on the end 2 of the clamp branch 4, and the other on the punch 8 of the clamp branch 5 ,
to. to complete the formation of the wave of wise folds by continuing to bring these two clamp branches closer together. The jacks 17 and 18 could be replaced by electromagnets housed in recesses of the end 2 of the clamp branch 4 and of the punch 8, or by any other devices.
Once the pleating wave has been formed, the central punch 10 is raised to the upper position using the jacks 14, and at the same time it is lowered by sliding along the end 3 of the gripper branch. 5, the punch 8 using the jack 9.
We raise them. blank presses 15 and 16 and the sheet or strip A is driven in the direction of the arrow, using the drive rolls 1, or by any other means, in order to allow the pleating wave thus formed to pass between the blank press 16 and the end 3 of the gripper branch 5.
The sheet or strip A, in which the pleating wave has been formed, is thus driven to the right of the design by a length equal to the desired pleating pitch.
Branches. of grippers 4 and 5 are again spaced from each other according to the pitch and the depth that it is desired to give to the pleating.
A new operating cycle, similar to the previous one, can then begin.
The machine described and shown makes it possible in particular, but not exclusively, to produce pleated sheets forming envelopes for electric voltage transformers and, in general, to produce pleated sheets forming envelopes intended to increase the heat exchange between two or the same fluid.
The movements of the central punch 10 and of the punch 8 can also be effected by any mechanical control.
