Besonders wertvolle Farbstoffe erhält man z.

Process for the preparation of cobalt-containing azo dyes It has been found that valuable cobalt-containing azo dyes are obtained if monoazo dyes free of acid dissociating groups that are not involved in complex formation, such as those obtained from diazo benzene compounds,
which contain a group capable of forming metal complexes in the ortho position to the diazo group and a substituent in the para position to the same, which is linked to the ring by an oxygen-containing sulfur atom, can be obtained by coupling with acyl acetic acid aralkylamides, with cobalt donating agents in Such amounts are treated so that less than a whole atom of cobalt is bound per dye molecule.
The monoazo dyes which can be used according to the invention should not contain any acid dissociating groups, that is to say groups which form hydroxonium ions in an aqueous medium, such as sulfonic acid, phosphonic acid and carboxylic acid groups, which are not involved in the formation of metal complexes.
These metallizable monoazo dyes are advantageously prepared from diazonium compounds which contain a hydroxyl group in the ortho position to the diazo group as a group capable of complex formation. But also those using o-alkoxy, z. B. o-methoxydiazobenzene compounds, prepared o-alkoxyazo dyes can be used.
The substituent in the p-position to the complex-forming group can be derived from both 4-bonded and 6-bonded sulfur. The sulfoxide groups —SOR, are derived from tetravalent sulfur, where R is an optionally nonionogenically substituted hydrocarbon radical, in particular one of the aliphatic or cycloaliphatic series.
Examples are the methyl sulfoxide group, the ethyl sulfoxide group, propyl sulfoxide, butyl sulfoxide and cyclohexyl sulfoxide group. Substituents which are derived from 6-bonded sulfur and also do not dissociate acidically in water are the radicals -SO2R ', where R' is either a hydrocarbon radical or an amino radical.
Particularly suitable hydrocarbon radicals which may optionally be substituted nonionically are those of the aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic and isocyclic-aromatic series.
Examples are the methylsulfonyl, chloromethylsulfonyl, ethyl sulfonyl, propylsulfonyl and butylsulfonyl groups, the benzylsulfonyl group, the benzenesulfonyl group and the 3-sulfonic acid amido-benzenesulfonyl group.
Suitable amine radicals R 'are the radicals of ammonia or of the primary or secondary amines, which can belong to the aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic as well as the aromatic and heterocyclic series. Hydrogen radicals bound to the amino group can optionally be further substituted.
Examples of sulfonic acid amide substituents are the unsubstituted sulfonic acid amide group, the sulfonic acid-N-mono- and dimethyl amide group, the -N-mono- and diethyl amide group, the -N-mono- and -di-ss-hydroxy-ethyiamide group and the corresponding methoxy and ethoxyethyl amide group, the sulfonic acid-N-ss-chloro-ethyl amide group,
the sulfonic acid-N-propyl-amide and -butyl-amide group, the sulfonic acid-N-cyclohexyl-amide group, the sulfonic acid-N-benzyl-amide and -N-ethylphenyl-amide group, the sulfonic acid-N-phenyl- amide group and as further substituted derivatives of the same z.
B. the sulfonic acid 2- or -4-methyl-phenyl or -chlorophenylamide group, the sulfonic acid-N-ethyl-N-phenylamide group and as sulfonic acid derivatives of heterocyclic N-bases, for example, the sulfonic acid piperidide and -mor- pholide group. The diazo components can, in addition to those in the 2- and 5-positions as defined, optionally
contain further substituents, provided these are not acidic dissociating groups in water. It can e.g. B. be present: halogens, alkyl, alkoxy and acylamino groups. With regard to the properties of the end products obtained therefrom and with regard to the easier accessibility come as diazo components especially the simplest representatives such. B.
1-Amino-2-hydroxy-5-methylsulfonyl- and -5-ethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-Amino-2-hydroxy-5-chloromethylsulfonyl-benzene, 1-amino-2-hydroxy-benzene-5-sulfonic acid- N- methyl amide, 1-amino-2-hydroxy-benzene-5-sulfonic acid-N-ethyl- and -N-ss-hydroxy-ethyl-amide and 1-amino-2-hydroxy-benzene-5-sulfonic acid-N-dimethyl -amid in question.
In the acyl acetic acid aralkylamides, the acyl group can be the monovalent radical of an aliphatic or aromatic and preferably monocyclic carboxylic acid, but in particular an acetyl radical. In the araliphatic radicals of the amides, the aliphatic part is preferably low molecular weight, ie z.
B. a methylene, ethylene or propylene group. The aliphatic chain can be straight or branched. The aromatic radical of the aralkyl group advantageously belongs to the benzene or naphthalene series and can optionally be further substituted non-ionically.
The amino group and aryl radical can be bonded to the same or different carbon atoms of the aliphatic bridge member. The acyl: acetic acid-aralkyl amides z.
B. by condensation of acyl acetic acid alkyl esters with araliphatic amines. Acetoacetic acid aralkylamides, a group of coupling components which are particularly favorable for the preparation of the starting dyes, are also. obtainable by reacting aralkylamines with diketene. Particularly valuable dyes are obtained, for.
B. with acetoacetic acid-N-benzylamide, acetoacetic acid-N-4-chlorobenzylamide and N-3,4-dichlorobenzylamide, acetoacetic acid-Na-phenyl-ethyl- and -ss-phenyl-: ethyl-amide and acetoacetic acid- Na naphthylmethyl and tetrahydronaphthylmethyl amide.
The coupling of the diazobenzene compounds with the acyl acetic acid aralkylamides is expediently carried out in a neutral to alkaline medium, for example in the presence of sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate. Since the acylacetic acid-aralkylamides are in most cases .schwerlöslich to insoluble in water, an addition of organic solvents, e.g. B.
Alcohol, beneficial in many ways. If necessary, tertiary nitrogen bases such as pyridine can be added to accelerate the reaction. Particularly valuable dyes which can be used according to the invention are prepared from acetoacetic acid benzylamides and 1-amino-2-hydroxy-benzenes with a sulfonyl substituent -SO, R 'in the 5-position.
For treatment with cobalt-releasing agents, the metallizable monoazo dyes are conveniently treated with salts of di- or trivalent cobalt or with complex compounds of this metal. It is advantageous to work in a neutral to alkaline medium. As cobalt-donating salts can nen z.
B. cobalt chloride, cobalt nitrate, cobalt sulfate, cobalt acetate and cobalt formate and as a complex cobalt compound, for example hexammine cobalt trichloride. The cobalting, for which mixtures of monoazo dyes which can be used according to the invention can also be used, is carried out with advantage at an elevated temperature and, if necessary, under pressure. You can either in aqueous solution or slurry or in an orga African or aqueous-organic means, e.g.
B. in formamide or acetamide, cobalt. If necessary, it is advantageous to carry out the metallization in an organic melt, e.g. B. that of an alkali salt of a low molecular weight aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, for example sodium acetate, vorzu take, in which case water-insoluble cobaltizing agents can also be used.
If o-alkoxydiazobenzene compounds were used to produce the metallizable monoazo dyes, the cobalting conditions should be chosen so that the alkoxy group is split up, which can be achieved, for example, by heating in an organic medium to temperatures above 100 ° C can.
The cobalt-containing monoazo dyes obtained can be separated off and worked up using the customary methods. They are conveniently isolated as ammonium salts or in the form of alkali metal salts, such as lithium, potassium or sodium salts.
Despite the absence of acidic dissociating, water-solubilizing groups, the cobalt-containing azo dyes which can be prepared according to the invention often have very good water solubility.
They are therefore very well suited for dyeing fibers and fabrics from aqueous baths and show very good drawability on wool, silk, leather and artificial nitrogenous materials such as polyamide and polyurethane fibers even in neutral to weakly acidic baths. They color these materials in pure yellow tones, which are highly valued for their green cast. Wool dyeings produced with the new azo dyes are characterized by z.
B. by very good lightfastness, good wash and mill fastnesses and excellent levelness. The new cobalt-containing azo dyes are also suitable for printing on the aforementioned nitrogen-containing materials, as well as z. T. also for coloring natural and artificial paints, for example those based on nitro or acetyl cellulose. By reacting with suitable amine bases or with basic dyes, lacquer dyes are obtained which can be used for dyeing spinning masses made from cellulose esters or synthetic polyesters.
In the following examples, unless expressly stated otherwise, the parts are to be understood as parts by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Parts by weight are related to parts by volume as to emg.
Example 1 45.95 parts of the sodium salt of the dye, prepared from diazotized 1-amino-2-hydroxybenzene-5-ethylsulfone and acetoacetic acid-4-chlorobenzylamide, are slurried in 300 parts of formamide and after adding cobalt acetate, corresponding to 3.24 parts of cobalt, heated to 95-100 until the metallization reaction is complete.
The yellow solution is poured into 2000 parts of 10% sodium chloride solution and the precipitated dye is filtered off. The dried dye is soluble in hot water with a yellow color and dyes wool from a neutral or weakly acidic bath in very lightfast, greenish-yellow tones.
Example 2 45.4 parts of the sodium salt of the dye from diazotized 1-amino-2-hydroxy-benzene-5-sulfonic acid methylethylamide and acetoacetic acid benzylamide are suspended in 600 parts of hot water and an aqueous solution Solution of cobalt acetate, corresponding to 3.54 parts of cobalt, and 16.8 parts of tartaric acid are added.
The metallization mixture is made clearly phenolphthalein-alkaline with sodium carbonate and stirred at 80 until the metallization is complete. The metal-containing dye is excreted by adding sodium chloride, isolated and dried. It dissolves in hot water with a yellow color and dyes wool from a neutral or weakly acidic bath in uniform, greenish-yellow shades of very good lightfastness.
