Le dessin annexé représente, à titre d'exemple, diverses formes d'exécution du dispositif d'étanchéité. La fig. 1-est une vue de rappel d'une réalisation du dispositif d'étanchéité donnée au brevet principal et représentée en demi-coupe axiale ; les fig. 2 et 3 sont des vues en demi-coupe axiale d'une première forme d'exécution ; les fig. 4 et 5 sont des vues analogues d'une deuxième forme d'exécution;
les fig. 6 et 7 sont des vues analogues d'une troi sième forme d'exécution; les fig. 8 et 9 sont des vues analogues d'une qua trième forme d'exécution ; les fig. 10 et 11 sont respectivement des vues en demi-coupe axiale d'un dispositif d'étanchéité pour constituer, en combinaison avec un ou plusieurs autres dispositifs identiques, un élément d'étanchéité;
Les trois autres formes d'exécution du dispositif représentées en fi-. 4 à 9 présentent des dispositions identiques à celles décrites pour la forme d'exécution des fig. 2 et 3. Les fi-. 4 et 5 représentent une forme d'exécution d'un dispositif d'étanchéité unilatérale, muni à sa partie arrière d'un bourrelet élastique 18 permettant son accrochage dans une gorge 19 d'un piston 20; la forme d'exécution des fig. 6 et 7 con cerne un dispositif similaire au précédent et muni entre ses lèvres d'une couronne de butée 22 formant amortisseur de fin de course du piston ;
Sealing device The main patent relates to a sealing device forming a leaktight seal between a rod or a sliding piston and a cylinder containing a pressurized fluid, characterized in that it comprises at least one gasket of elastic material integral with a metal frame providing it with high resistance to longitudinal compression and having recessed areas, the lining comprising a thin annular body,
extending over a circular surface of the frame and provided with circular beads forming a pad, this annular body extending, depending on whether the positive device is unilateral or bilateral, on one or both sides of the frame facing the fluid under pressure, this extension carrying at least one sealing lip mounted in tension against the member relative to which it is intended to slide.
The present patent relates to a sealing device forming a leaktight seal between a rod or a sliding piston and a cylinder containing a pressurized fluid, comprising at least one seal made of elastic material secured to a metal frame ensuring high strength. longitudinal compression and having embedding zones, the lining comprising an annular body of small thickness, extending over a circular surface of the frame and forming a pad, this annular body extending, depending on whether the positive is unilateral or bilateral sealing, on one or both sides of the reinforcement facing the pressurized fluid,
this extension carrying at least one sealing lip mounted in tension against the member with respect to which it is intended to slide, charac terized in that the adjacent parts of the annular body and of the aforementioned lip are shaped so as to s' apply continuously against the aforementioned member, that said part of the annular body is of a thickness considerably less than the average thickness of said lip, and that the reinforcement has a bearing surface laterally inclined towards the rear with respect to to said lip.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, various embodiments of the sealing device. Fig. 1-is a recall view of an embodiment of the sealing device given in the main patent and shown in axial half-section; figs. 2 and 3 are views in axial half-section of a first embodiment; figs. 4 and 5 are similar views of a second embodiment;
figs. 6 and 7 are similar views of a third embodiment; figs. 8 and 9 are similar views of a fourth embodiment; figs. 10 and 11 are respectively axial half-sectional views of a sealing device for constituting, in combination with one or more other identical devices, a sealing element;
fig. 12 is an axial half-section of a piston of which the bilateral sealing element is formed by means of devices, according to FIG. 10; fig. 13 is a similar view of a sliding rod in a cylinder and the sealing of which is ensured by devices according to FIG. 11.
There is shown in FIG. 1 an embodiment of the sealing device given in the main patent, the latter being formed of an elastic part or gasket 1, vulcanized on a metal frame 2, having a fixing heel 3 in the cage 4 of a cable gland.
The active elastic part 1 consists of an annular body of small thickness extending over the frame in the direction of sliding and shaped into beads 11 forming a pad for the rod 10 which passes through the stuffing box.
It also consists, on the side of the seal facing the chamber of the pressurized fluid 7, of two arched sealing lips which constitute, after tensioning, one 8 the static lip, and the 'on the other 9 the sliding lip of the stuffing box (in relation to the rod 10).
In the first embodiment of the device shown in FIG. 2 and 3, it will be noted that the grooves 50, which had been provided in. the realization of FIG. 1 at the base of the sealing lips in order to leave them a certain mobility, are removed.
In fact, in the case of FIG. 1, under the compressive force directed along the arrow 51, and having here for the lip 9, for example, a component as indicated by the arrow 52, the material of the lips was forced back into the grooves 50 and the repetition of this action tended to alter the filling in that section.
Thus, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the lips are always arched at rest, in order to be put in elastic tension, after assembly (fig. 3), but they extend over their entire length and up to the frame following a substantially flat surface. with a view to applying continuously against the surfaces with which they cooperate.
On the other hand, as in devices involving high pressures, it is recommended to pay particular attention to the machining of the parts, as regards the calibration and the state of the surfaces with which the lips will cooperate, the mobility that the grooves 50 could give the lips no longer at all the same importance as if we were dealing with imperfectly machined cylinders or pistons.
It will be noted that, in the case of FIG. 1, the base of the lips rests on the frame along a rounded contour 53, and that in this case in particular the component 51 has the effect of producing the crushing of the base of the lip 9 between the frame of the trim ture and rod 10.
To avoid this phenomenon, which is particularly sensitive to the sliding lip, in the embodiment shown in fig. 2 and 3, the lateral face 55 of the frame which shoulders the base of the lips in opposition to the action of the pressurized fluid is given a substantially planar surface inclined towards the rear of these lips going from the sliding lip 9 towards the static lip 8,
or here a partial frustoconical surface with apex 56.
In this case, in fact, the pressure exerted following the arrow 51 has the effect of pressing the elastic material at the base of the lips according to the inclination of the surface 55, that is to say towards the static side. of the lining, thus preventing the backflow of material from the sliding side, here between rod 10 and armature 2. In addition, the lips withstand the pressure without their shape being significantly altered and their conservation is ensured.
For the same purpose, the thickness 57 of the annular trim body at the base of the sliding lip should be reduced to a minimum. Such thinning is also provided at 58 at the other end of the annular packing body, but. here its role is to allow, in conjunction with the thinning 57, the anchoring of the annular body in the frame in order to strengthen their connection.
It will be noted that, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the annular packing body had a sinusoidal or beaded section, allowing a certain backflow of the elastic material of this body to take place in use in the circular hollows that it presents.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 2 and 3, a single groove 59 has been made in the annular packing body, capable of retaining a slight reserve of lubricant without constituting a weakness for the packing body.
The three other embodiments of the device shown in fi-. 4 to 9 have arrangements identical to those described for the embodiment of FIGS. 2 and 3. The fi-. 4 and 5 show an embodiment of a unilateral sealing device, provided at its rear part with an elastic bead 18 allowing it to be hooked into a groove 19 of a piston 20; the embodiment of FIGS. 6 and 7 relate to a device similar to the previous one and provided between its lips with a stop ring 22 forming the end-of-stroke damper of the piston;
finally figs. 8 and 9 show an embodiment of a device with bilateral sealing and damping effect, vulcanized on a frame which constitutes a piston body 29 and which is blocked on the rod thereof against a shoulder 32 to the 'using a ring 33.
It will be noted that, in all these embodiments, the lateral faces 55 of the reinforcements supporting the base of the lips are always inclined towards the rear of these lips, going from the sliding lip towards the static lip, or at least , in the particular case shown here in FIGS. 8 and 9, where the armature constitutes the piston body, over the greater part of their surface.
These arrangements are finally found in the sealing devices of FIGS. 10 and 11, of which the mature arch with a square section and the arrangement of their active elastic part allows their combination in variable number in order to constitute an element with multiple sealing zones, either in the case of a piston (fig. 12) or a cable gland (fig. 13).
