Process for the production of waterproof fiber tapes The present invention is a process for the production of waterproof fiber tapes, which is based on the fact that fibers are placed next to each other in such a way that the edges of the individual fibers touch each other practically without gaps and are glued to one another at their points of contact the fiber tape strips thus formed are cut into narrow fiber tapes.
As starting materials for the present Ver drive are preferably artificial fibers, before some staple fibers, of a suitable length, the z. B. 100 to 120 mm and more can be used. Among other things, so-called chemical fibers come into consideration, specifically both cellulose hydrate fibers and synthetic fibers, e.g. B. Viscose rayon, copper rayon and the fibers known under the trade names Perlon (registered trademark), nylon, Terylene (registered trademark).
The fibers can also be in the form of mixtures of different chemical fibers or of chemical fibers with natural fibers, such as. B. Ramie, use the fin. In special cases, natural fibers can also be used alone. The thickness of the fibers to be used depends on the nature and properties of the products to be manufactured. To achieve relatively soft and non-slip fiber ribbons, fibers are used with advantage that have a single denier of about 4 den. exhibit. The fibers can be used undyed or in the dyed state.
So-called jet-dyed or spun-dyed cellulose fibers are advantageously used.
The fibers to be used are advantageously first processed to the top, as z. B. happens with wool in the combs. The meter weight of the top slivers can, for. B. be about 10 to 20 g. According to one embodiment of the invention, a number of combed strips are placed next to one another in such a way that the edges of the individual strips touch virtually without any gaps.
This can be done by introducing the combed slivers into a machine that works with rollers or cylinders, in which, on the one hand, the slivers are warped and, on the other hand, they are flattened, so that the flat-rolled combed slivers lying next to one another are tightly connected to one another, i.e. without any gaps. In this way, a fiber fleece is obtained which is largely homogeneous in width and which is practically made up of fibers arranged in parallel in the longitudinal direction. Depending on the number of combed slivers placed next to one another, the width of the fiber fleece can be varied. The bandwidth can e.g.
B. be about 40 cm.
According to the invention, the fiber tape thus obtained, consisting of fibers arranged in parallel in the longitudinal direction, is first pre-consolidated by being impregnated with solutions or dispersions which contain water-insoluble adhesive agents. Subsequent removal of the solvent or dispersion carrier causes the neighboring fibers to stick at their points of contact, so that an elastic and porous fiber structure is obtained.
The solutions or dispersions containing water-insoluble adhesives can optionally also contain plasticizers. Cellulose derivatives with an adhesive effect, rubber milk and synthetic resin solutions or dispersions come into consideration.
Among other things, a solution of nitrocellulose such. B. a solution that contains about 10 to 15% of a low viscosity nitrocellulose and a small amount of tricresyl phosphate in butyl acetate. When using nitrocellulose with a higher viscosity, it is recommended to use it in a highly diluted solution.
Instead, z. B. also a solution of about 10% of a low-viscosity nitrocellulose, about 5% acrylic acid ester and 2% tricresyl phosphate in about 50% ethyl acetate,
about 20% xylene and about 131 / o butyl acetate are used for pre-consolidation of the fiber fleece arranged in parallel.
Rubber can be used in the form of a rubber milk, which advantageously also contains additives such as casein, plasticizers and the like, and is preferably used in foam form.
As synthetic resins suitable for the pre-consolidation of the fiber fleece, unsaturated polymerizable polyester resins, which are in the state of water-insolubility, polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene, etc. can be considered. The synthetic resins can be used in the form of solutions or dispersions. Other suitable adhesive agents include etherified, e.g. B. butylated urea formaldehyde derivatives, which are advantageously used as aqueous dispersions.
Solutions of bonding agents or mixtures of different bonding agents are advantageously used for the pre-consolidation. Solvents as Lö have, inter alia, mixtures consisting of low-boiling solvents such as. B. ethyl acetate, acetone, etc., and also higher-boiling solvents such as. B. butanol, xylene, trichlorethylene, etc. exist, well proven.
In general, it is advisable to use the dispersions in question for the pre-consolidation or solutions of adhesives, optionally with the use of foam carriers, such as. B. gelatin or casein, to be converted into foam and to carry out the impregnation with the foams thus obtained. This promotes the desired point-like gluing of the adjacent fibers.
According to the invention, the pre-consolidated strips are in a second process stage of a second impregnation or a surface treatment with a thermoplastic synthetic resin, such as. B. polyvinyl acetates, polystyrenes, post-chlorinated polyvinylchlorid'en, acrylic acid derivatives, methacrylic acid derivatives and the like containing solution or dispersion, which can preferably also contain plasticizers.
The thermoplastic can with advantage in an aqueous dispersion, z. B. a 15% dispersion of polyvinyl acetate, which still contains 1.5% tricresyl phosphate, can be used.
It is essential that in this second treatment of the pre-consolidated fiber structures only those solvents or dispersion carriers are used which do not interfere with the adhesive brought between the fibers by the pre-consolidation and in particular do not dissolve it. For example, if the pre-consolidation with nitrocellulose, e.g.
B. a solution of low-viscosity nitrocellulose and polyvinyl acetate in ethyl acetate and butanol has been carried out, then used for the second impregnation or surface treatment z. B. Lö solutions of thermoplastic resins in xylene, toluene, trichlorethylene, etc., which solvents are not capable of dissolving the nitrocellulose present in the fiber structures.
If rubber milk is used for pre-consolidation, it is advisable to convert the rubber into an insoluble final state by vulcanization before the second process stage. But if the vulcanization of the rubber has not gone far enough, solvents such as hydrocarbons may not be used in the second process stage.
For the second impregnation or surface treatment of fiber nonwovens pre-consolidated with rubber, the use of polyvinyl ether is recommended. B. in a solution mixture of ethyl alcohol and ethyl acetate is applied to.
To carry out the second process stage, a solution of about 15 to 20% polyvinyl acetate and 1,
5 to 3% dioctyl phthalate in a mixed solution of 80% toluene and 20% butanol has proven itself well. Of course, this impregnating agent may only be used to treat such fiber structures
whose pre-consolidation adhesive are not dissolved by the solvents present in the mixed solution to be used.
The pre-bonded fiber tapes impregnated with bonding agents for the purpose of pre-consolidation and impregnated with solutions or dispersions of thermoplastic substances in the second process stage or surface-treated must be freed from these after treatment with the solvents or dispersion carriers.
The removal of the solvent or dispersion carrier can be carried out in the simplest manner both during the first impregnation which is used for pre-consolidation and after the second impregnation or surface treatment of the fiber ribbons.
B. over guide rollers, and the developed solvent vapors are removed by hot, countercurrent air through the drying channel, whereby the solvent or dispersion carrier can be recovered by conventional methods. Of course, other measures such as B. heated drying cylinder, to eliminate the solvent or dispersion carrier Verwen make use.
Following the second process stage explained above, the slivers are subjected to heating under compression pressure. For example, they can be performed by heated calender rolls. Here, the thermoplastic materials applied to the fibers are softened, with any remaining protruding fiber ends being pressed and glued into the tape surfaces, giving the tapes a smooth surface and a silk-gloss appearance. Then the wide tapes to narrow sliver strips of the desired width, z. B. 1 to 3 mm, cut up, which can be reeled into individual strands or wound onto rolls.
Example 15 combed slivers made of viscose rayon fibers with a cutting length of 130 mm and a single titer of 3.5 denier. are introduced next to each other in a machine machine, where they are processed by combing and corresponding distortion practically parallel and seamlessly butting together to form a fiber fleece.
This fiber fleece is impregnated with a 12% solution of a low-viscosity nitrocellulose in butyl acetate which, based on the nitrocellulose content, still contains 5% tricresyl phosphate, squeezed off and dried in a hanging dryer.
The sliver so solidified before is impregnated with a 150% aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate which still contains 1.51 / o tricresyl phosphate, squeezed off and dried. The sliver is calendered at 120 ° C. and cut into ribbons 3 mm wide.
According to one embodiment of the invention who used long fibers for the production of the fiber ribbons instead of staple fibers. So you can z. B. the incurred in the production of rayon the cable without cutting into staple fibers directly into the machine, in which the parallel juxtaposed fibers converted into flat nonwoven fiber structures who the. Likewise, endless rayon fibers, e.g. B. made of viscose, Perlon and the like, immediacy bar on the desired sliver processing th by the wound up rayon threads, as usual in weaving for the production of warps, on correspondingly narrow, z.
B. 40 to 60 cm wide warp beams close to each other on trees and then leads from the warp beam in the impregnation device used for solidification before.
The fiber tapes produced according to the invention are characterized by particularly good properties. They have a very high strength, are waterproof or washable and very resistant to abrasion and other wear and tear. With regard to the handle and the like properties, they can be largely adapted to the purposes for which they are intended and made according to the respective intended use with regard to color and pattern.
The fiber ribbons can be used as such directly z. B. can be used as packing cords. But there are also a number of other areas of application into consideration. An important application area is z. B. the production of synthetic straw women's hats. As a result of the thermoplastic properties of the synthetic resins used for the impregnation or surface treatment, the shaping and stabilization of the hat shapes can be done in a very simple manner by simple hot pressing. Another area of application is cable insulation.
For this purpose, the impregnation is carried out with synthetic resins, which have the required electrical insulation properties such. B. modified polyurethanes.
For the present invention, protection is only claimed as far as it is not a purely mechanical finishing of textile fibers that comes into consideration for the textile industry.
