Machine for the automatic production of non-circular piston rings. The invention relates to a machine for the automatic production of non-circular piston rings. In the known machines of this type, a profiled steel strip is brought into a bending device by means of a feed device, which has a stop plate and a guide roller in which during the bending of the belt, the thrust plate changed its position in order to achieve the out-of-roundness. These known machines have the disadvantage that they work intermittently.
It is clear that this intermittent work on the one hand disrupts the accuracy of the feed and on the other hand the quality of the bend also suffers from the interruption. Ultimately, however, the interruption also means a considerable loss of time. In practice, the machines known in the trade make around eight to ten cycles per minute.
The object of the invention is now to improve these well-known machines, namely in that the mode of operation is designed continuously and since the cycle rate can be increased to about 100 / minute. In addition, the rings produced on the known machines still require a special aftertreatment due to the discontinuous mode of operation by machining on all sides, which is of course also a considerable loss of time and there is an economic and technical disadvantage.
These disadvantages are also intended to be eliminated by the present inven tion, primarily by continuously working any reworking, and the rings are produced from the outset with such an inherent tension that additional support and expander springs are no longer required.
The invention consists in that in a machine for the automatic production of non-circular piston rings, in which the profiled steel band is brought into the bending device by means of a feed device, which has a stop plate and a guide roller and in which during the bending of the band the thrust plate changes its position in order to achieve the out-of-roundness, the feed device continuously conveys the steel belt into the bending device and the bending enforcing
pivotally mounted thrust plate by a coupled with the feed device, stepless Ge gear and a camshaft driven by this after passing the set tape length is pressed once in each of the smaller ring diameter determining position. The camshaft acts advantageously on a one-armed lever that transmits its movement via an adjustable in position to impact on one leg of a double-armed lever under the We effect of a spring, on the other leg of which the thrust plate is arranged. The position of the thrust plate on said lever is expediently adjustable.
It can also be ensured that the cutting device arranged at a predetermined point on the profiled steel strip bent into a ring cuts the ring by an electrical impulse controlled by the feed or a slider-crank mechanism driven by it, depending on the length of the unwound ring.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing.
The rectangular or two-sided rounded steel band 1 of the highest possible strength or hardness is pushed through the cylindrical rollers 2 and 3 of a feed device through a guide 4- through the bending device and meets there next on an inclined plate 5.
To produce the desired non-circular rings that deviate from the circular shape, the inclination of the inclined plate 5 is continuously changed as a function of the advance of the steel strip. The coupling of these two movements - feed and inclination change takes place with the help of a gear transmission 16 with slip-free and stepless control. The change in inclination of the inclined plate 5 takes place by means of the cam 17 and an interposed lever 18.
The size of the angular deflection of the inclined plate 5 can be changed within wide limits by moving the cutting edge 19 with means of an adjusting screw 20 on the sliding surface of the lever 18. Here, the cross-sectional shapes of the piston rings can be adapted to the requirements, that is, the ovality of the rings, based on the. Clamping opening can be changed from positive to negative values. An adjusting device for the inclined plate 5 is used to set different piston ring diameters.
The plate 5 consists of an angle iron, the free leg of which rests flat on the lever 21 and can be pivoted about the axis of rotation 8 of the lever by a desired amount, in that a fixed screw attached to the lever 21 for clarity, not shown engages through an elongated hole 7 of the angle iron. By pivoting the angle iron, the distance between the thrust plate 5 and a pressure roller 6 is accordingly changed to an intended extent.
As a result of the pretensioning of a spring 22, the rocker arm 21 always remains in contact with the cam 17 in a non-positive manner and without play. While this diameter control is to be regarded as a coarse control, the fine control is taken over by the bolt 10, which is rotatably mounted at the end of a lever 9, 11 pivotable about the axis 13. The latter can be adjusted by means of the spring-loaded adjusting screw 12. This support of the expiring ring is mainly used to compensate for different Rückfede ments of the steel strip and thus fine regulation.
Under certain circumstances, it can be advantageous to continuously change the position of this support according to the constantly changing radii of curvature of the rings, for example with the help of a control derived from the cam 17 during a work cycle.
In order to produce individual rings, the resulting helix, since it deviates from the circular shape, must be cut off at a precisely defined point, or an arc piece corresponding to the desired spreading must be cut out to produce ready-to-install piston rings. The cutting device 14 can be controlled by the pulse of an encoder 15 on the steel strip. The coil is then cut off at these points in another operation.
The pulse generated by the transmitter 15 can also directly trigger a cutting or punching device in order to immediately split the helix into closed and open rings. The impulse can of course also be used for control purposes for monitoring the interaction of all processes, with the involvement of conventional amplifiers.
The technical progress of the machine described lies in the fact that it achieves more than ten times the performance compared to known machines with little more effort and, moreover, makes any reworking of the rings produced unnecessary.
