Device for cooling granular material, in particular foundry molding sands Moist foundry molding sands are dried after processing and fed to a storage bunker. Since the sand heats up strongly during the drying process, it is cooled before it is delivered to the bunker. This is particularly important if the sand is to be used immediately after it has dried.
The devices serving for cooling generally work with blades, screws or the like rotating around the sand in a drum, with cooling air being passed through the drum during the circulation. These facilities require, if sufficient cooling is to be achieved with them at high throughput, a considerable space that is not always available. In addition, the outlet of these facilities is close to the ground, so that special funds are required for conveying the sand into the bunker.
These shortcomings can be remedied if you pass the granular material to be cooled over a vertically oscillating, helical conveyor trough that is held by a support body. Such conveying means require little floor space and make a special conveying device for the cooled goods unnecessary. It has therefore also already been proposed to use such conveyors for cooling purposes, cooling gases being passed through the cavity formed by the jacket surrounding the conveyor trough.
Sufficient cooling can only be achieved in this way when the cooling gases pass through at a very high speed, because otherwise they heat up so much that they can no longer exert any cooling effect on the conveyed goods in the areas adjacent to their exit from the device. At a cooling gas speed that would be necessary to avoid this deficiency, however, there is the risk that part of the conveyed material will be carried away by the gas.
In contrast, the invention specifies a way by which intensive cooling of the conveyed material is achieved. The invention is characterized in that the support body is designed as a support tube, which has openings arranged over its entire length on a helical line of the same slope as the conveyor trough, which are above the respective bottom section of the conveyor trough adjacent to them, and through which Openings are sucked or blown through the cooling gases. In this way, rapid cooling of the sand is achieved.
The device according to the invention is not only suitable for cooling foundry mold sand, but other granular substances can also be treated.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the subject invention is shown in longitudinal section. According to the drawing, the helical conveyor chute 1 is welded on the outside of a support tube 2, which has openings -2a that taper from bottom to top and are arranged on a helical line of the same slope as the conveyor chute 1, which above the respective adjacent bottom section of the conveyor trough 1 lie. Inside, the individual turns of the conveyor trough 1 are connected to one another by the struts 3.
The interior space la enclosed by the conveyor chute 1, the passage of which to the conveyor chute 1 is largely open, is closed at the bottom by a funnel-shaped bottom 4, which in its central part has a closable opening 4a for the withdrawal of this Has the space of precipitating dust. The conveyor trough 1 is suspended with the surrounding support tube 2 on a frame 5 by means of springs 6 and is set by a drive means, not shown, in a swinging movement in the vertical direction.
The granular material to be cooled is poured onto the conveyor trough 1 from above.
The inner space la enclosed by the conveyor trough 1 stands with its upper part above a subsequent sealing means, e.g. B. a rubber bellows 7, with a fan 8 in connection, from which the cooling gases, for. B. cooling air, drawn from the outside through the openings 2a and over the goods to be cooled. But you can also proceed the other way around and blow the cooling air through the space enclosed by the conveyor trough 1 and the openings 2a.
The first-mentioned Stromfüh tion of the cooling air is the more appropriate because then the dust loosened by the cooling air from the goods to be cooled is at least largely deposited in the interior la and can be drawn off from it.
The openings 2a are formed from the end face of the support tube 2, to which the suction or pressure line for the cooling air is connected, larger towards the other end face. As a result, sufficient amounts of cooling gas can also be supplied to the goods to be cooled in the zones facing away from the connection side of the suction or pressure line for the cooling air, while the amount of cooling air is limited to the required level in the zones facing the aforementioned lines remains.
The openings 2a are preferably designed as elongated holes, the width of which decreases with the same height or the height with the same width towards the fan 8. With this shape of the openings 2a, the cooling air flows as a wide band over the item to be cooled and fulfills its task to a particularly high degree.
But you can connect the conveyor trough 1 to an internal, dash-dotted line in the drawing is provided support tube 9 and provide the openings 2a in this tube 9 analogous to the tube 2 of the embodiment described before, while the conveyor trough 1 is largely open on its outer circumference is. The heat extracted from the material to be cooled can be made usable again if the heated cooling air is fed to a sand dryer through the furnace assigned to it.
