B. Kühlwasser, in Verbindung steht.
Method for producing sterile packs from a packaging material consisting at least partly of organic substances. The invention relates to a method for producing sterile packs from a packaging material consisting at least partly of organic substances. Methods are known which allow liquid or solid substances such as food, beverages, pharmaceutical products or auxiliaries to be produced either completely aseptic or to be subjected to a sterile treatment. It is also known to pour milk and other liquids into tin cans under sterile conditions and to seal them hermetically.
Furthermore, attempts have already been made to fill milk under sterile conditions into the usual glass bottles and to close them with suitable lids. The relatively high costs for tin cans and the particularly unfavorable weight ratio between goods and packaging for bottles, as well as the costly bottle return and cleaning service, are so expensive that these types of packaging for consumer goods such as milk are rarely economical. In addition, in the case of glass bottles, the glasses usually used for bottle production cannot cope with repeated heating to the temperatures of around 250 ° C. or above required for sterilization.
On the other hand, packs are known which are made from a packaging material consisting at least in part of organic substances, for example. B. made of plastic, such as polyethylene or from at least one side of plastic-coated paper. For sterile packaging of sterile goods in packs formed from such a material, it is necessary to sterilize at least the side of the material that will later form the inside of the pack, with only heat treatment generally ensuring complete destruction of the germs. For this purpose, sterilization temperatures of around 200 C or above are necessary. Sterilization is only difficult to the extent that such material, at least partly composed of organic substances, is very heat-sensitive.
In the case of material consisting entirely or partially of plastic, the plastic already softens at temperatures below the required sterilization temperature. On the other hand, carbonization begins with certain papers at temperatures above 200 C, while the papers become brittle or discolored at lower temperatures. In the case of plastic-coated papers, which are heated in their entire thickness, the heated plastic must not come into contact with guide or transport means, which requires a complicated guide and transport system.
Furthermore, the heating temperature is to be kept at a level that is just sufficient for the sterilization and as low as possible in order to rule out a harmful change in the material to be treated with certainty. This requires a longer heating time, which when treating a running web of the packaging material requires heating over a relatively long section of the web.
The invention makes it possible to largely eliminate the described after parts and difficulties. The method according to the invention is characterized in that, prior to the forming of the pack, the side of the material which will later form the inside of the pack is heated to the sterilization temperature by the action of heat and at the same time the side of the material which will later form the outside of the pack in the area of the sterilization point is absorbed by contact with heat Medium is cooled.
With the aid of the method described, it is possible, without damaging or disadvantageous changes to the treated material, to heat the material side which will later form the inside of the pack at significantly higher temperatures and with a significantly shorter heating time. To produce sterile packs, it is sufficient if only the surface of the side of the material that will later form the inside of the pack is heated to the sterilization temperature.
The simultaneous cooling of the side of the material later forming the outside of the pack during this heating makes it possible to bring about such a temperature gradient in the material itself that a temperature is established over the largest part of the material thickness is significantly below the surface temperature of the heated material side. In the case of paper coated with plastic, for example, the plastic side can be heated to 250 C without the paper suffering any damage.
When treating entirely made of plastic mate rial, it is possible to heat the later forming the inside of the pack material side to 250 C or above, while a softening of the plastic on the latter by sufficient cooling of the later forming the outside mate rialseite Side is prevented; it is then possible to guide the cooled side over fixed guide surfaces without the material sticking to the guide surface during the action of heat.
The material to be sterilized side can advantageously be heated by thermal radiation or with the aid of a gaseous or vaporous heat carrier. The side of the material to be cooled can expediently be cooled by blowing on a gaseous or vaporous coolant or by spraying on a Kühlflüs liquid. When using web-shaped material, the web side to be cooled can advantageously be guided over a cooled surface resting on it.
The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the described method according to the invention; The operation according to the invention is characterized by means of transport for the packing material, which feed the material to a pack molding machine and also by a heating device for heating the material side which will later form the inside of the pack and by a cooling device for cooling the later outside of the Pack forming material side.
The heating device can expediently be designed as an electrically heated radiator or have a blowing device, with the aid of which a stream of a gaseous or vaporous heat carrier can be directed onto the material side to be heated. When using web-shaped material, it is advisable to provide a cooled, preferably metallic guide surface for the web side to be cooled, on which the web lies along the heating section of its path over its entire width.
In this case, the guide surface can expediently be formed by the jacket surface of a rotatably mounted drum body through which a coolant flows inside, which is set in rotation by the latter when the web is running. Finally, web-shaped packing material can also expediently be guided over at least one shaped piece curved transversely to the longitudinal direction of the web in such a way that outside the shaped piece the web side to be heated forms a convex surface and the web side to be cooled forms a concave surface, with a cooling device being provided with the help of which a flow of a cooling fluid can be directed to the concave side of the web.
Various embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. 1 shows a heating and cooling device for a moving flexible web, with a cooled metallic guide surface for the web and heating the web side to be sterilized by means of a gaseous or vaporous heat transfer medium, FIG. 2 in a view and FIG. 3 in section according to the line III-III in Figure 2 a heating and cooling device for a running flexible web,
with heating of the web side to be sterilized with the help of an electrically heated radiator and guidance of the web over the cooled surface of a rotatably mounted drum body and FIG. 4 in section and FIG. 5 in view of a heating and cooling device for a moving flexible web, with heating of one side of the web by means of thermal radiation and cooling of the other side of the web by spraying on a cooling liquid or a cooling gas.
The device shown in Fig. 1 has a curved metallic guide surface 1 for the dashed-dotted line track 2. The latter consists of plastic-coated paper. The web 2 is guided over the guide surface 1 in such a way that its paper side rests on the latter over its entire width. Before the web, which is moved by known transport means (not shown), runs onto the guide surface 1, the web partially wraps around the roller 3. The guide surface 1 is formed by a self-contained sheet-metal web 4 which encloses a cavity 5.
The cavity 5 is closed at the front by metal sheets 6 and 7.
In the area of the point where the web 2 runs off from the guide surface 1, a number of distribution lines 8 open into the cavity 5. The lines 8 are connected to the line 9, which is connected to a source (not shown) for a coolant, e.g. B. cooling water, is in communication. In the area of the run-up point, individual lines 10 lead out of the cavity and open into the collecting line 11, through which the coolant fed into the cavity can be continuously removed.
At a distance from the web 2, a plurality of blowpipes 12 are arranged, which are connected to a supply line 13 for a gaseous or vaporous heat carrier, for. B. water vapor are connected. The tubes 12 are provided with bores 14 through which the flow of the heat carrier can be directed against the plastic-coated side of the web 2.
The device described is operated in the following manner. When the coolant supply is switched on, coolant is passed through the cavity 5, which coolant intensively cools the guide surface 1. The web 2 is then guided over the guide surface and moved in the direction of arrow 14 by the aforementioned transport means. The supply of the heat transfer medium is then switched on and it is blown onto the side of the web 2 which is coated. The temperature of the heat transfer medium is, for example, 400 C, while the cooling liquid is at room temperature.
The heat transfer medium heats the side of the web, which will later form the inside of the pack, to approximately the temperature of the heat transfer medium, while the web side that will later form the outside of the pack is kept at a temperature of less than 80 ° C. through contact with the cooled guide surface. In this way any harmful change in the web to be treated is avoided. It is to be ensured in a suitable manner that the web running down from the device described does not come into contact with a germ-containing atmosphere, for example by guiding the web within a channel which is under overpressure and is filled with sterile air.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 2 and 3, the web 20 is guided over the outer surface of the rotatably mounted drum body 21. The drum body consists of two halves 22 and 23 which are held together by screws 24. The drum body is rotatably mounted on the axle 25 with the aid of the ball bearings 26 and 27. The axle 25 has two axial bores 28 and 29, which extend towards the center of the hub part. Bores 30 and 31 extending in the radial direction connect said axial bores with annular spaces 32 and 33, respectively, which are connected by a. disc 34 enclosing the axis with close play are separated from each other.
The annular space 32 is connected via channels 35, 36, 37 and 38 with a cavity 39 formed by recesses in the circumferential part of the drum body, and these channels are each located in one of the ribs 40 of the half-body 23. In the On ribs 40a of half-body 22 there are channels 42, 43, 44 and 45 which connect cavity 39 to annular space 33. The ribs 40 and 40a are offset from one another by an angle of 45. The cavities 32 and 33 are sealed against the bearing parts by seals 46. The cavity 39 is sealed from the outside by the seal 47.
A radiator 48 extends over part of the circumference of the outer surface of the drum body, in the interior of which the electrical heating coil 48a is arranged. In the operation of the described device Einrich is through the bore 29, a coolant, for. B. cooling water, which flows to the outside through the channels 35-38 in the 'cavity 39 and flows out of this again through the channels 43-45 to be discharged through the bore 28 in the shaft 25.
In this way, the outer surface of the drum body forming the guide surface for the web 20 and thus also the web 20 resting over its entire width on a part of the guide surface is intensively cooled. This prevents a harmful change in the web 20 as a result of the heating of its web side to be sterilized. The web 20 is in turn moved by transport means not shown in the direction of arrow 41, the drum body 21 being rotated through the web without slipping.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5, a web 50 is guided over two molded bodies 51 and 52 with a semicircular profile in such a way that the later the inside of the pack to be shaped forms a concave and the later the outside of the pack to be shaped forms a convex surface. The web 50 is moved in the direction of arrow 53 by Transportmit tel, not shown. Between the two molded bodies 51 and 52, an electrically heated radiator 54 is arranged, which is used to heat one side of the web to the sterilization temperature. Between the two shaped bodies 51 and 52, a tube 55 extends in the longitudinal direction of the web 50.
The inside of the pipe is connected to the supply line 56 for a cooling fluid. The cooling fluid used is, for example, cooling water or cooling air, which is directed through bores 57 in the wall of the tube 55 in the form of individual jets onto the concave side of the web. Through the curved web side, the cooling fluid is deflected downward in such a way that it does not come into contact with the web side to be sterilized.
In many cases it is advisable to temporarily sterilize the side of the web to be cooled until the pack to be formed from the material is filled and hermetically sealed. This can be done so that the coolant is a sterilizing agent such. B. permanganate or ozone, is added or such a sterilizing agent is brought into contact with the material side later forming the outside of the pack before, during or after the heating of the material.
The invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments described. In this way, material can be treated that only partially consists of organic substances, e.g. B. a flexible sheet of plastic-coated paper, which has an insert in the form of an aluminum foil. Furthermore, a radiator heated with the aid of a gaseous or vaporous heat carrier could also be used as the heating device.
