<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Magnetic core for transformers or choke coils The requirement to accommodate ever greater powers in a transformer unit while still not exceeding the limits drawn primarily by the rail profile has led to single-phase transformers from the two-leg core to the four-leg core and with three-phase transformers from the three-leg core to the five-leg core to pass over and possibly also to wind the return legs.
In the latter case, it was disadvantageous that in the four- and five-legged cores of power transformers known up to now, the return legs were given a rectangular cross-section and the windings applied to them did not have the inexpensive, short-circuit-proof circular shape.
Several solutions have probably already been proposed to enable transformers with wound return legs to be approximately circular and, compared to the main legs, smaller return leg cross-sections, but these are magnetic cores for locomotive transformers, for which the compact design that can be achieved is also welcome , in which the iron losses do not have the same weight as in the case of network transformers and therefore core shapes can also be used that would not be acceptable because of the high iron losses to be expected with network transformers.
The aim of the present invention is to show a magnetic core with n main legs (n> _ 2) and two return legs, which, like the previously known cores with return legs, has yokes that are greatly reduced in height compared to the main leg width, and also, as is the case with locomotive transformers is known, round yoke legs smaller in their cross-sectional area compared to the main legs, but in addition, due to its structure according to the invention, is particularly low-loss and therefore also suitable for mains transformers of the highest power, as will be explained in more detail below.
The subject of the invention is a magnetic core for transformers or choke coils with n main legs (n _> 2) and two return legs with reduced yoke height compared to the main leg width and round return legs with reduced cross-sectional area compared to the main legs, whereby according to the invention the layer height through the Layer height of the yoke leg determined (n +2) leg core on both sides of its n main legs further laminated cores are attached, which the cross section of the main legs of the (n -i- 2)
-Leg core to an approximately full circle and which close to two n-leg cores via yokes layered parallel to the main yoke of the (h -j- 2) -leg core.
In the drawings, FIG. 1 shows as an exemplary embodiment a partial view of a four-leg core layered according to the invention, FIG. 2 shows a section through the legs of the core, FIG. 3 shows half of a section through a main leg (section a in FIG. 1), 4 shows half of a section through the main yoke (section P in FIG. 1), FIG. 5 shows half of a section through the return yoke (section y in FIG. 1)
and FIG. 6 shows half of a section through a yoke leg (section 6 in FIG. 1). For the drawings it is assumed that it is a core layered from special sheet metal, hence the extensive subdivision of the entire magnetic core by cooling gaps running parallel and perpendicular to the sheet metal plane, so that a core shape is created reminiscent of known frame constructions, but this is only one of them -
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
preferably, embodiment not necessarily associated with the idea of the invention.
As can be seen from FIG. 2, the core according to the invention consists of an (n + 2) leg core (n = 2) with continuously the same layer height dl = cl = a1 = b1, the other on both sides of its n main legs at a layer height a2 Laminated stacks are layered, which close over yokes with a layer height b2 (where b2 = a2) to form two n-leg cores parallel to the (n -H- 2) leg core.
Cooling gaps are provided between the (n -f- 2) leg core and the two n leg cores, and the main and return legs are divided by cooling channels running perpendicular to the layering plane. The diameter of the main limb is denoted by D, that of the return limb as d.
In Fig. 3 a half section shower is shown a main leg, and in this figure the sheet widths of the individual package levels of the (n -i 2) leg core are designated with A, 12, those of the two n-leg cores with A912. The second half of the cross-section should be thought of as a mirror image.
4, 5 and 6 B, 12, C, 12, D, 12 mean the sheet widths of the individual package levels of the main yoke, the return yoke and the return legs of the (n + 2) leg core and Bv / 2 the sheet width of a Partial package of the n-leg core yoke. The diameters of the main and return legs are again denoted by D and d.
As can be seen from FIGS. 4 and 5, the main yokes and the return yokes also have cooling gaps running perpendicular to the layering plane, so that, as FIG. 1 already shows, a type of frame core is created.
If one makes the width of all sheets lying one behind the other in the flow direction the same (with the designations of Fig. 3-6, i.e. B, / 2 = C,! 2 = D, / 2 = A "14 and Ay12 = BY / 2) therefore also The gradation of the magnetically one behind the other laminated sheet stacks results in a core with simple and clear flux guidance also in the corners and the same induction in each partial package of the cores and the yokes, which of course has great advantages, especially with cores made of special sheets (cold-rolled sheets) brings.
The central recesses in the return legs (hollow legs) resulting from the fulfillment of the above conditions benefit the cooling. The maximum yoke height of the (n + 2) leg core is only approximately equal to half of the main leg diameter (Bz maxl2 = C. ..x / 2 = DI4) with the core according to the invention and with a corresponding division of the entire iron core into one (n + 2 ) -Leg core and two n-leg cores can also be By ", a, / 2 = A" ma,
12 = D14 can be achieved. Because a main leg lamella (width AY) belonging to the n-leg core continues in its entirety in the yoke that only connects the n main legs [i.e. not, as with conventional (n + 2) leg cores, finds its magnetic continuation to one half via the yoke and the yoke ], in the case of the core according to the invention, the sheet-metal lamellas of the outer n-leg cores are approximately twice as high as in an analog (n + 2)
- Leg core of the hitherto usual type of layering and therefore do not need the outer metal sheets in the yoke, as was often the case up to now, to be raised in order to achieve a sufficient pressing surface, so that the same induction is also present in the edge packets of the yoke, and this is not a cause the losses, especially in the case of cold-rolled sheets, are very high cross flows.
Of course, the above conditional equations do not necessarily have to be strictly adhered to for exactly the same induction in all partial laminations. You can deviate from this somewhat if you reduce the number of stages in the yokes (main and return yokes) and in the return legs by around half compared to the number of stages in the main legs, as is the case in the drawings. In this case, the sheet height for a yoke or return leg package is taken as the mean value of the sheet heights of the two main leg steps that are magnetically in series with it.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, the magnetic core according to the invention is shown as an overlapped layer. Yokes and cores could of course also be butted against one another or by using the miter joint, which is favorable in particular for cold-rolled sheets.
The advantages of a magnetic core layered in accordance with the invention are that with round main and return legs and a yoke height reduced to about half the main leg diameter, a simple and therefore inexpensive to manufacture core with favorable magnetic flux guidance is possible. All sheets can have a rectangular shape (apart from the possibility of a miter joint) and can therefore be produced by cutting alone (no punching work associated with loss of material and burr formation).
If the suggestion to make the width of sheets lying one behind the other the same in the direction of flow is followed exactly, the same induction conditions and thus also the same heating result in each sub-package of the cores and yokes. Clear magnetic flux routing is also ensured at the corners and branch points, and there are therefore no high additional losses to be feared there either. The advantages with regard to yoke compression have already been pointed out.
Finally, in the case of the core according to the invention, all sheet metal lamellas can be layered in parallel, so that no angling or bending of sheet metal is required anywhere, which is known to result in a considerable deterioration in the loss ratio, particularly in the case of cold-rolled sheets.
