<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Antimagnetic clock To make clocks insensitive to external magnetic fields, non-magnetic alloys are increasingly being used for tension springs and spiral springs, armature wheels, armatures, balance wheels and other parts. Known alloys for this purpose are e.g. B. Nivarox, Nivaflex (registered trademarks) and various beryllium alloys. When using these alloys, the accuracy of the watch is not affected by external magnetic fields up to a strength of around 200 Gauss.
In order to shield watches from stronger external magnetic fields of up to 1000 Gauss, the watch has already been encased in a closed, shielding iron capsule in the usual way with highly sensitive measuring instruments. So it is e.g. B. known to include small watches in an additional closed capsule made of material of high magnetic permeability and low hysteresis, such as mu-metal (registered trademark), Superalloy and the like, or to arrange a special capsule completely enveloping the movement within the watch case made of such materials .
The use of such shielding closed capsules has the disadvantage that it increases the volume and weight of the watch, which is particularly undesirable in the case of small watches.
Systematic tests have now shown that it is not necessary to use a closed hollow body for shielding against strong magnetic fields of up to about 1000 Gauss, but that partial shielding is sufficient for this. Accordingly, the invention relates to a watch that is shielded from strong external magnetic fields by a material of high permeability and low hysteresis, such as mu-metal, in which, according to the invention, a ring and / or plates made of such a material that do not have a closed hollow body serve for shielding form. This makes it possible to use existing parts of the watch for the shielding, in that they are made of material with high magnetic permeability. So you can z.
B., as the figure shows, produce the balance cock 3 and / or the anchor cock 4 and possibly a further bridge located in the vicinity of the gear organizer from such a material. It is also possible to manufacture the front plate 1 or the dial and an existing dust ring from magnetically highly permeable material. The dial made of magnetically highly permeable material can have a galvanic coating on either one or both sides, e.g. B. by copper plating or silver plating, or the dial can be made in such a way that a thicker, facing towards the factory layer 5b of magnetically highly permeable material with a thin layer 5a, z.
B. made of brass, is plated. If necessary, a thin plate made of a magnetically highly permeable material can also be arranged between the dial and the movement surface.
An example of the effectiveness of the partial shielding forming the invention is an experiment carried out with a wristwatch in which the escape wheel, armature and balance were made of a beryllium alloy and the hairspring was made of Nivarox (registered trademark). If this watch was provided with an anchor block and a dial made of soft iron, it showed a rate deviation of only + 6 seconds at 700 Gauss. in 24 hours.
If the circuit board and / or the bridges are made of magnetically highly permeable material, it is advisable to use the bearing bores, which normally do not have any jewels or other bearing inserts
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
have to provide bushings made of brass, beryllium or the like to improve the bearing properties.
The shape of the plates and bridges is very different both in their area and in their thickness for the individual movement calibres. It must therefore be considered on a case-by-case basis which of the named parts should be made of a material of high permeability in order to achieve adequate shielding for the moving parts, preferably for the balance wheel.
