<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Winding Device for Portable Watches The invention relates to a winding device for portable watches.
In the case of wristwatches, it is known to provide a flywheel in the interior of the watch which is set into oscillation by the movement of the wearer, the oscillating movement of which is used to wind the watch drive spring. Since it can easily happen with such a winding device that the drive spring is wound up to its final winding state and the centrifugal mass is still vibrated by the movements of the wristwatch wearer, it is necessary that the arrangement is made so that then, despite the movement of the flywheel, the drive spring is no longer wound up.
This is avoided in the known wristwatches in that the clock drive spring is designed as a so-called drag spring and can slide with its one end along the inner surface of the spring housing when the spring is open. With this construction, to achieve the correct winding effect, it is important that the frictional force between the spring housing and the drag spring is precisely defined so that the drag spring is carried along once the flywheel moves and after the spring is tensioned, the drag spring is dragged relative to the barrel. It is already known to prepare the barrel or drag spring accordingly and to provide special substances, for example a special grease, on their surface in order to achieve the correct entrainment.
Such measures, however, are by no means satisfactory, since a perfect predetermination of the drag force is not possible, and in particular also because the substances and the surface of the parts change over time and thus the frictional force is changed accordingly.
These disadvantages are avoided according to the invention in winding devices for portable watches, in particular wristwatches, with an oscillating body having an oscillating mass which is set in oscillation by the movement of the watch and whose oscillating movement can be transmitted via a transmission mechanism to the clock drive spring Magnetic field coupled with the flywheel entrainment member is provided, which is in operative connection with the transmission mechanism.
By choosing the appropriate magnetic parts and the size of the magnet, it can easily be achieved that the driving element is carried along with a certain force, as is necessary for normal winding of the watch, while with a greater counterforce of the spring the two are carried by the magnetic field coupled parts slide past each other so that the movement of the flywheel is no longer transmitted to the spring.
The magnet or magnets can be of any type and, for example, be designed as electromagnets. In the case of small watches, however, it is advisable to use permanent magnets. One or more such permanent magnets can be provided either on the flywheel or on the entrainment member or on both. All that is required is that the two aforementioned parts are coupled to one another by a magnetic field and that the movement of the flywheel causes the entrainment organ to move.
For example, the arrangement can be made such that the entrainment member is entrained by the oscillating body oscillating back and forth or also rotating, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
either on the whole path of the flywheel or only on a part of this path and thus either performs a circular movement or a partial circular movement. The axes of the two parts can be coaxial with one another, or the axis of the entrainment element can also lie between the axis of the flywheel and the circumference of the latter. In the case of this last-mentioned design, the driving member is advantageously designed as a rotatable wheel and has at least one pole pair on its circumference.
The flywheel then only needs to be magnetizable. If a number of pole pairs are provided on the circumference of the entrainment element, a corresponding translation of the rotary movement onto the entrainment element results when the flywheel oscillates, so that the spring is wound relatively quickly. It is advantageous if the poles are shaped in some way, which can be done, for example, by providing recesses between the poles. In order to further improve the formation of the coupling field, corresponding recesses can also be provided on the flywheel.
In some cases, it can be advantageous to design the entrainment member as a swinging armature which is pivoted back and forth when the flywheel swings past. To achieve this pivoting back and forth, a number of adjacent pole pairs can be provided on the flywheel, which interact with the armature's poles in such a way that, in a certain mutual position, one arm of the armature is attracted relative to the flywheel and the other arm is repelled.
Exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in the drawing. 1 shows a front view of a schematically illustrated first embodiment, FIG. 2 shows a section along line 2-2 in FIG. 1, FIG. 3 shows a front view of a second embodiment according to the invention, FIG. 4 shows a section along the line 4-4 in FIG. 3, FIG. 5 shows a partial section along the line 5-5 in FIG. 3.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, 10 designates a plate which carries the inner ring 11 of a ball bearing designated as a whole as 12, the outer ring 13 of which is firmly connected to a rotating body designated as a whole with 15. The flywheel has a ring part 18 to which, as can be seen from FIG. 1, the actual flywheel 19 is attached.
A coupling ring 20 made of magnetizable material is fastened to the ring part 18 and has groove-shaped recesses 22 with a pitch t on its inner circumference. In the board 10 and a bridge 25, which is only shown schematically, a shaft 26 is mounted on which a driver wheel 28 is attached. This driving wheel has adjacent pairs of poles on its circumference, the poles of which are denoted by the letters N and S in FIG. Recesses 30 are provided between the poles, and the pole pitch of the driving wheel 28 is equal to the pitch t of the coupling ring 20.
The process when oscillating the oscillating body 15 is as follows: If the oscillating body 15 either oscillates back and forth or only in one direction, the driving wheel always assumes a position in which the magnetic resistance is a minimum. The drive wheel is therefore rotated along with the rotation of the flywheel, in fact in such a way that the number of divisions of the flywheel that swing past the drive wheel is equal to the number of poles of the drive wheel that are taken along.
This entrainment of the driving wheel takes place with a force that corresponds to the magnetic field generated by the magnets. If the force transmitted by the driving wheel exceeds this coupling force, there is no longer any driving, and the flywheel 15 swings past the driving wheel without rotating it.
The transmission of the movement of the driving wheel to the tension spring can take place in any way. Since such transmissions are already known per se, they will only be discussed briefly below.
A rocker 41, which carries two gear wheels 42 and 43, is mounted at 40. In the position shown, the gear 43 meshes with a gear 45 which is rigidly arranged on the shaft 26, and also with an intermediate gear 48, the rotation of which is transmitted to the ratchet 52 of the barrel 54 via a pinion 49, another intermediate gear 50. In the barrel, a drive spring, not shown, is arranged in a manner known per se, with the aid of which the clockwork is driven. This clockwork and its gear train are also not shown since they are known and do not form part of the invention.
In the second embodiment according to FIGS. 3 to 5, a plate is designated by 60, on which a rotating body designated as a whole by 62 is rotatably mounted with the aid of a ball bearing 61. The flywheel has a ring part 63 with a flywheel 64 and also a coupling element that consists of a carrier ring 65 and two pole plates 66 and 67. The carrier ring is a permanent magnet that is magnetized across its end faces. The pole plates have teeth that are bent towards the inside, namely in such a way that the teeth of the two pole plates lie alternately next to one another.
Since the teeth of the respective pole plates have the same polarity, this results
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
so on the inner circumference of the flywheel a number of adjacent pole pairs.
An armature designated as a whole with 70 cooperates with these pole pairs, which armature has a holder 72 pivotable about an axis 71, the two arms of which each carry a magnet 74 and 75, respectively. These two magnets are arranged in such a way that a north pole or a south pole is located radially to the flywheel or its inner surface. The distance between the two poles 74, 75 corresponds to twice the distance between the poles of the coupling ring.
Two pawls 78 and 79, which interact with a ratchet wheel 80, are arranged on the holder. The ratchet wheel 80 carries a pinion 82 which meshes with the ratchet wheel 84 of the barrel 85.
The mode of operation of the above-described arrangement is as follows: When the flywheel 62 swings past the armature 70, at a certain point in time, for example, the position shown in FIG. 3 results, in which the north pole of the magnet 74 is a south pole and the south pole of the magnet 75 is also a Opposite the south pole of the coupling member. This attracts the magnet 74 and repels the magnet 75. When the armature 70 is pivoted as a result, the ratchet wheel 80 rotates via the pawl 79.
When the oscillating body 62 continues to oscillate, a position results in which the two poles of the armature. each face a north pole of the flywheel, and as a result the armature 70 is pivoted in the opposite direction, so that the pawl 78 now drives the ratchet wheel.
