Description

Flexible coupling The invention relates to a flexible coupling comprising two members intended to to be attached, respectively to two parts to be coupled and a flexible element between the two said members comprising arms extending radially to from a central part, these two members comprising clogs coming into engagement with said flexible element.

This flexible coupling is characterized in that the edges of the dogs adjacent to the arms of the flexible element are concave around axcs transverse to the to axis coupling, in that the arms of the flexible member are each barrel-shaped in cross-section with respect to to the axis of the arm to accommodate to the concave edges of the cogs, at least part of said dogs being removable and being able to be fixed to said two members after they have been assembled to the flexible element.

A preferred embodiment of the flexible coupling according to the invention and a variant will now be described, through by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a flexible coupling taken along the line 1-1 of fig. 5.

Fig. 2 is a view similar to that of FIG. 1, but showing a variant.

Fig. 3 shows one of the external members or to flange of fig. 2 with the removable dogs attached to this one.

Fig. 4 is another view of the member with flange of FIG. 3, viewed in the direction of arrow A, and fig. 5 is an end view of the coupling of fig. 1 when assembled. In the examples of fig. 1 to 5, the external members are two circular members with flange 1 and 2. Uniformly removable dogs spaced apart 4 are fixed to the flanges 7 of the members 1, 2 by means of screws 5 with heads having a cavity polygonal.

The number of dogs 4 is equal to the number of spaces formed between the radial arms 11 of the flexible element 3, which is made of rubber or a similar material. The dogs attached to the member 1 occupy the spaces between these arms alternating with the other of these spaces occupied by the attached dogs to organ 2.

The members with flange 1 and 2 are each provided with a lip 6 at the periphery of the faces on which the dogs 4 are fixed in order to keep the dogs in position. Access holes 8 allowing the passage of the screws 5 to heads having a polygonal cavity are made in each of the members to flange 1, 2 at the places which are opposite the screw heads in the other member to flange 2, 1.

In the variant shown to in fig. 2, the access holes, 8 are omitted in the to flange member 2a, as long as this member carries a to chdine wheel 9 which would obstruct such access holes if they were made in component 2a. Access holes 8 are drilled in the other, member to the flange.

It can be seen that a number or all of the dogs can be slid into position and secured in place after the flanged members and the flexible element have been placed on shafts to couple, which avoids the need to force the barrel-shaped radial arms 11 of the flexible element 3 over the concave profiles 10 dogs. In the case of the variant (fig. 2), the dogs of the component to flange la are fixed to this one before the coupling is put in position on the remaining shafts and dogs are slid into place and secured to flange member 2a after assembling the remainder of the coupling.

In other variants, the to flange member 2a may carry a toothed wheel or a pulley or other mechanical device instead of a wheel. The screws with heads having a polygonal cavity, can be replaced by any other suitable fixing means. A different number of dogs with a corresponding different number of spaces between the arms of the flexible element can be provided.
