Succinimid, Glutarimid, ss,ss-Dimethylglutar- imid, a,a-Dimethylsuccinimid, Maleinsäureimid, Me- thylmaleinsäureimid, Phenylsuccinimid und derglei chen oder deren Gemische.
Durable, viable color preparation Metallized and metal-free phthalocyanine dyes, which are characterized by their strong clear tones and their excellent fastness properties, have so far mostly only been used for pigmentation and as dyes for the production of colored lacquers.
British Patent No. 322169 has shown that certain phthalocyanines can be linked. For example, it was stated that both the unsulfonated and the sulfonated copper, nickel and iron phthalocyanines can be voided. However, these products have never been used as vat dyes, mainly because of their low affinity for the fibers, the dull hues they will keep, and their poor lightfastness.
The first mention of the use of cobalt phthalocyanine as a vat dye can be found in the work of Bienert (P. B. No. 70339, Frame 11206 [1948]). In reality, however, the cobalt phthalocyanine itself has only a low solubility in the vat, and so only weak blue colorations are obtained.
The invention now relates to a durable cobalt phthalocyanine preparation which can be vetted and which is suitable for dyeing textile fibers from the vat.
The color preparation according to the invention consists of a mixture of an optionally chlorinated cobalt phthalocyanine and an optionally chlorinated aminomethyl-substituted cobalt phthalocyanine, 10-80 mol% of the total cobalt phthalocyanine being accounted for by one group
EMI0001.0031
or by a group
EMI0001.0032
in which R is a 1,2-divalent organic radical, are substituted.
Such a mixture shows better solubility when it is vat, so that it is suitable for dyeing textile fibers in strong blue tones with excellent lightfastness. These colorations are significantly superior to those which have been obtained in the same way with preparations containing an average of one or more aminomethyl substituents per molecule of cobalt phthalocyanine, or with preparations which do not contain any aminomethyl-substituted cobalt phthalocyanine or which are based on copper phthalocyanine .
The aminomethylated-substituted cobalt phthalocyanines contained in the preparation according to the invention can be prepared by adding a cobalt phthalocyanine with (a) a 1,2-dicarboxylic acid (N-methylol) imide of the formula
EMI0001.0048
or (b) a mixture of the corresponding 1,2-dicarboximide and formaldehyde or a formaldehyde-releasing compound, such as paraformaldehyde, under acidic reaction conditions or (c) a 1,2-dicarboxylic acid mono- (N-methylol)
- amide of the formula
EMI0002.0004
that in all probability is formed from the corresponding imide by partial hydrolysis under acidic reaction conditions, and in which R has the meaning given above, is implemented. The aminomethylation is carried out in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid at higher temperatures between 70 and 100 C.
The mixtures of cobalt phthalocyanine and the aminomethylated substituted cobalt phthalocyanine can, for. For example, if a preparation is desired in which 50 mol% of the total cobalt phthalocyanine is substituted, then per g mol of cobalt phthalocyanine is 0.5 molar equivalents of 1,2-dicarboxylic acid - (N-methylol) -imide or des 1,
2-dicarboxylic acid mono- (N-methylol) amides or substances resulting from these compounds are reacted. The mixture obtained will thus contain, on average, equimolecular amounts of cobalt phthalocyanine and aminomethylated substituted derivative.
The same result can be obtained by reacting the cobalt phthalocyanine to a greater extent (for example 1 g-mol cobalt phthalocyanine with 1 mol equivalent of the acidylaminomethylating agent) and mixing the dye obtained with a calculated amount of unconverted cobalt phthalocyanine.
Concentrations of sulfuric acid of about 80-100% by weight can be used to carry out the reaction, but concentrations of about 96-100% are preferred. As examples of 1,2-dicarboxylic acid imides which can be used in the reaction in question, either in the form of their N-methylol compounds or in connection with a source of formaldehyde, are mentioned:
Succinimide, glutarimide, ss, ss-dimethylglutarimide, α, α-dimethyl succinimide, maleic acid imide, methyl maleic acid imide, phenyl succinimide and the like or mixtures thereof.
Particularly good results are obtained with imides of the phthalic acid series and in particular with phthalimide or the hydrogenated, halogenated, nitrated or amidated phthalimides, such as tetrahydrophthalimide, 4-chlorophthalimide, 3,5-dichlorophthalimide, 4-nitrophthalimide and the like, or mixtures thereof .
The color preparations according to the invention can be vat in a manner known per se with caustic alkalis and hydrosulfite and the vats can be used for dyeing textile fibers in strong, lively blue tones with excellent lightfastness. The subsequent oxidation can be effected in a known manner by exposing the colored fibers to air or by immersing them in an oxidizing bath, for example a solution of sodium perborate or aqueous acetic acid solutions of sodium dichromate.
The preparations according to the invention can even be stored in a weakly alkaline medium, such as in the presence of ammonia, and therefore they can also be used for dyeing animal fibers from the vat and fibers based on synthetic polymeric materials.
In the following examples, unless otherwise specified, parts are parts by weight. The parts by weight are given in g and the parts by volume in cm?
Example 1 11.4 parts of cobalt phthaloeyanine are dissolved in 140 parts of 100% sulfuric acid. 1.75 parts of N-oxymethylphthalimide are then added to the acidic solution. The mixture is heated to 70-75 ° C. for 1 hour, after which the reaction mixture is poured into ice water. The product obtained is filtered off, washed neutral with water and the filter cake is processed into a homogeneous paste.
The product dyes cotton from a green, yellowish vat in a strong, clear blue tone that is extremely lightfast.
If the N-oxymethyl-phthalimide is omitted in the above example, the pure solution of the cobalt phthalocyanine treated for 1 hour at 70-75 ° C. in 100% sulfuric acid does not give a product which has useful vatting properties and sufficient affinity for the fibers. On the contrary, the product, although it is partially vat, does not stain the fibrous materials from the vat to any significant extent.
Example 2 11.4 parts of cobalt phthalocyanine are dissolved in 140 parts of 100% strength sulfuric acid, and 2.75 parts of N-oxymethylphthalimide are then added to the acidic solution. The mixture is heated to 70-75 ° C. for 1 hour, the reaction mixture is poured into ice water, the product obtained is filtered off, washed neutral and processed into a paste.
The product dyes cotton from a green pungent yellow vat in a strong, full blue shade of excellent lightfastness.
Example 3 5 parts of the dye mixture prepared according to Example 2 are added to 130 parts of anhydrous aluminum chloride and 100 parts of thionyl chloride. The reaction mass is heated to 60 ° C. for 1 hour. It is then poured into acidified water with a mineral acid, then the product is filtered off, washed neutral and processed into a paste.
A preparation is obtained which dyes cotton in a strong blue tone which is somewhat greener than that obtained according to Example 2. The product contains 4.99% chlorine.
Example 4 5 parts of cobalt phthalocyanine are dissolved in 75 parts of 100% sulfuric acid, and 3 parts of succinimide and 1.5 parts of paraformaldehyde are then added. The mixture is heated to 70-75 ° C. for 1 hour, whereupon the reaction mass is poured into ice water. The product is filtered off, washed, suspended in acetone, filtered again and washed and made into a paste.
A preparation is obtained which dyes cotton from the vat in strong greenish blue shades of excellent lightfastness.
Example 5 5 parts of cobalt phthalocyanine, 5.25 parts of succinimide and 2.6 parts of paraformaldehyde are reacted in 65 parts of 100% sulfuric acid at 70-75 ° C. for 1 hour in the manner described in Example 4.
A mixture is obtained which dyes cotton from the vat in a strong, clear blue shade of excellent lightfastness.
Example 6 11.4 parts of cobalt monochlorophthalocyanine are dissolved in 140 parts of 100% sulfuric acid, and 1.75 parts of N-oxymethyl phthalimide are then added. The mixture is heated to 70-75 ° C. for 1 hour.
A preparation is obtained which dyes cotton from the vat in a strong blue tone. Example 7 11.4 parts of cobalt monochlorophthalocyanine are dissolved in 140 parts of 100% sulfuric acid, whereupon 2.75 parts of N-oxymethyl phthalimide are added. The mixture is heated to 70-75 C for 1 hour.
The product obtained has similar vatting properties to those described in Example 6.
