Explosive cartridge The present invention relates to an explosive cartridge, usable in particular for geophysical prospecting, and which is characterized in that it comprises a hollow body of elongated shape, containing the explosive charge and of which one end is provided with a bottom. sealed having a housing in which is fixed an annular part having first assembly means, in that the opposite end of this body is provided with a sealed bottom which has a housing extending longitudinally inside the explosive charge and containing a detonator,
this opposite end having second assembly means complementary to the first, said means being arranged so as to allow several cartridges to be assembled end to end, at will, by engagement of the first assembly means of a cartridge with the second means for assembling another similar cartridge.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the cartridge which is the subject of the invention.
The upper part of fig. 1 is a partial axial section along 1-1 of FIG. 3, while the lower part is a partial axial section along 1-1 of FIG. 2; this fig. 1 shows the butt assembly of three cartridges.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the middle cartridge according to 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the middle cartridge according to 3-3 of FIG. 1.
The cartridge shown comprises a hollow body of elongated shape, consisting of a metal sleeve 1, of cylindrical shape, containing an explosive charge 2 and one end of which is provided with a sealed bottom 3 crimped at 4 on the cylindrical sleeve 1. The opposite end of this sleeve forms a sealed bottom 5 having a cylindrical axial housing 6 extending inside the explosive charge 2. This housing is formed in. the example shown, by a tube open at one end and closed at its opposite end 7, this tube being welded at 8 to the bottom 5. The housing 6 contains a detonator 9.
The bottom 3 delimits a housing 10, in which is disposed an annular part 11, made of plastic for example, constituting the female part of a bayonet assembly device, which will be described in detail later. This part 11 is forced into the housing 10 and it presses against the bottom 12 of this housing. Its lower end projects out of the housing 10, as can be seen in the drawing, and it has a frustoconical shape 14 on the outside, wider at the base than at its end projecting out of the housing 10..
The side wall of the housing 10 is provided with an annular projection 15 cooperating with the conical part 14 of the part 11 to retain this part in place once it has been forced against the bottom of the housing 10. At its opposite end, the cartridge has, in its central region, a projecting part 16 constituting the male part of the bayonet assembly device. In fact, we see at 17 two radial projections that this part 16 presents, which are intended to cooperate with the part 11, as will now be indicated. Exhibit 11 presents, as seen in FIG. 2, two radial notches 18, allowing the introduction of the projections 17.
In his par-

tie which is close to the bottom 12, the part 11 has two cutouts 19 each starting in one of the notches 18. The part of this cutout 19, close to the notch 18, which is indicated at 20, forms an inclined ramp, while the next part, designated by 21, is parallel to the general plane of the part 11. Between these two parts 20 and 21, a slight notch 22 is provided, to hold the projections 17 in place when they have crossed the notches. 22 and reaches the parts 21. The part of the sleeve 1 which is between the cylindrical wall and the projecting central portion 15, has a frustoconical shape, as seen at 23.
The outer surface of the end part of the part 11 located opposite this frustoconical part when two cartridges are assembled, has a complementary conical shape, as seen at 24.
The device described enables any number of cartridges of the type described to be assembled end to end. In order to achieve the assembly, it suffices to bring the male end of one of the cartridges and the female end of the other into cooperation, by engaging the projecting parts 17 in the notches 18 and by rotating d 'approximately 45.1 the two cartridges relative to each other.
The projecting parts 17 cooperating with the inclined planes 20 force the frustoconical surface 23 of one of the cartridges to bear strongly against the conical surface 24 of the part 11 of the other cartridge; then, the protrusions 17 arriving in the flat portion 21 keep the cartridges assembled. The notches 22 prevent accidental detachment of the cartridges thus assembled.
To allow the initiation of the detonator placed at 9, there is provided, in the annular part 11, a cutout 25 extending over an angle approximately equal to that of which the two cartridges are rotated during their assembly. This cutout is made in the inner part and in the projecting end part of the part 11. It is visible in FIGS. 1 (bottom) and 2. The conductors used to control the detonator pass through this cutout, as seen at 26.
In fig. 1, we see three cartridges assembled end to end and in the right part of this figure, we can see precisely how the conductors 26 pass between two neighboring cartridges to go to the detonator of the lower cartridge.
