Installation comprising a torque limiting device and a clutch mechanism In certain fixed mechanical installations as well as in vehicles such as tractors, public works vehicles and the like, it is common for the mechanical components to be subjected to stresses for which they are not designed.
The case is frequent in particular in public works vehicles, such as bulldozers, scrapers or others, in which a shovel or a scraper or another tool is suddenly brought into engagement with an obstacle to be overcome. To overcome this drawback, the engines used on these vehicles must be calculated in particular as well as the various force transmission members, which leads to extremely expensive manufacturing.
The present invention overcomes these drawbacks by making it possible to mount on a vehicle or in machines in which similar stresses can occur, motors and transmission members which are notably lighter, which makes possible much less expensive manufactures.
In the installation according to the invention, as soon as the speed of rotation of the engine drops and the latter is at full load, the torque limiting device causes the disconnection of the engine and the transmission which consequently no longer support overload.
Another advantage of the installation according to the invention lies in the fact that the engine is brought back to its idling speed when an overload occurs, so that there is no risk of the engine racing. . According to the invention, the installation comprising a torque limiting device and an electromagnetic control clutch mechanism intended to produce the coupling of an engine with a transmission to be driven by this engine,
is characterized in that said torque limiting device comprises a cen trifuge regulator permanently driven by the motor, this regulator comprising a movable member controlling an actuating lever of a control mechanism of a switch whose closing provides power to at least one electric circuit, the whole being arranged so that, when an overload causes the motor to slow down,
the closing of said switch caused by the regulator automatically ensures, on the one hand, the disengagement of the clutch mechanism and, on the other hand, the actuation of a control member causing the idling of the engine.
One embodiment of the installation according to the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a section taken along the line I-I of FIG. 2 of a torque limiting device.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along line II II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a partial section taken on line IV-IV of FIG. 1. FIG. 5 is a diagram of said embodiment.
The device shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 comprises a casing 1 to which is fixed a casing 2 (fig. 2). The housing 1 serves as a support for a shaft 3 carrying a drive wheel 4 disposed externally to the housing and connected, for example by means of a trapezoidal belt not shown, to the vehicle engine shaft.
The shaft 3 drives a centrifugal regulator comprising a cradle 5 for holding the balls 6 and a cap 7 against the internal wall of which the balls 6 bear. The cap 7 is mounted on the shaft 3 so as to be able to slide relative to to the latter.
The axial movement of the cap 7 is transmitted by means of a ball stop 8, to a fork 9 which is keyed on a shaft 10 disposed transversely with respect to the shaft 3. The chette oven 9 is integral with a lever 11 provided with a stop 12 resting against the end of a slide 13 guided in a bore 14 of the housing 1.
The slider 13, which consists of a tubular element, is threaded onto a stud 15 against the head 16 of which it is supported by means of a compression spring 17 (fig. 1 and 4).
The position of the stud 15 can be adjusted inside the bore 14 by means of a rocker arm 18 (fig. 4) articulated on a pin 19 and against the door of which the end of a screw rests. setting 20.
As emerges from the above, it is possible, by means of the screw 20, to vary the action of the spring 17 and, consequently, to vary the force exerted on the lever 11 integral with the fork 9, which makes it possible to know exactly the displacement which the cap 7 of the centrifugal regulator can take, taking into account the previously determined mass of the balls 6 and the speed of rotation at which the shaft 3 is driven.
The shaft 10, arranged transversely to the shaft 3, protrudes inside the housing 2 integral with the housing 1 and controls the movement of a lever 21 wedged on its end (FIG. 3).
The lever 21 has a yoke 22 between the branches of which is disposed a finger 23 integral with the branch 24 of a lever 25 articulated on an axis 26.
The lever 25, which has a second branch 27, supports, by a pin 28, a part 30 having a nose 31. The part 30 is, moreover, connected to the lever 25 by a tension spring 31a.
The part 30 has a tab 32 (FIG. 3) which is normally held against a finger 33 for being abutted by the spring 31a, one of the ends of which is attached to this finger 33.
In the position shown in the drawings, in which the drive wheel 4 does not rotate, the free end of the lever 25 bears against an adjustable stop 34 mounted at the end of a lever 35 articulated on an axis 36. The lever 35 has a boss 37, hereinafter referred to as a lock, the function of which is described in the remainder of the description.
The lever 35 is connected by a tension spring 38 to a balance 39 articulated on an axis 40.
41 denotes a recess formed at the upper part of the balance 39, this recess being intended to cooperate with the latch 37 during certain phases of operation.
42 designates a nose also formed by the lancet bar 39, this nose being intended to cooperate with the nose 31 of the niece 30.
The spring 38, which connects the lever 35 to the balance 39, has the effect of maintaining the latter normally in contact with a fixed stop 43. The axis of rotation 40 of the balance 39 is provided with a roller 44 against which it takes support a lever 45 articulated on an axis 46, and bearing, by a finger 47 carried by this lever, on the bottom of a bowl 48 subjected to the action of a spring 49 whose tension is adjustable by means of 'a screw 50.
The lever 45 serves as a support for a contact 51 intended to cooperate with a second contact 52 carried by a pallet 53, the foot of which is articulated around the axis 46.
54 designates a compression spring interposed between the pallet 53 and the lever 45 to maintain the contacts 51, 52, normally apart.
The contacts 51 and 52 are advantageously made in the same way as the platinum-plated screws of an automobile ignition distributor device. The pallet 53 is intended to be moved during certain phases of operation to cause the contacts 51 and 52 to touch each other by means of an arm 55 formed by the balance 39.
In the installation shown in fig. 5, the positive device described above is designated by the reference A. This installation can be mounted on a motor vehicle, such as a tractor, for example, or on a public works vehicle.
As explained previously, it is important that the engine of the vehicle is not subjected to excessive stresses which risk damaging some of its parts when too great a load requires, even momentarily, an engine torque greater than what the engine can normally provide.
The movement of the motor is transmitted to the gearbox by an electromagnetically controlled clutch mechanism B producing the clutch when the windings it comprises are supplied with power.
The supply of the windings of the clutch mechanism B is controlled by a relay 56, the winding 57 of which is energized when the driver of the vehicle acts on the handle 58 of the gearshift lever 59 to engage a gear.
An accessory mechanism 60 also controls the excitation of the winding 57 so that it is possible in particular to perform the double clutch when changing gears.
The excitation of the winding 57 is also controlled by the device A described above, which operates as indicated below. This device A also controls the excitation of the winding 61 of a second relay 62 intended to ensure the resetting, by means of an electromagnet 63, of the lever 64 controlling the supply of fuel to the fuel. engine. A pilot light 65, connected as shown in fig. 5, allows the driver to be warned when device A causes the clutch mechanism B to disengage and the throttle 64 to be reset to zero.
In the diagram of fig. 5, a battery of accumulators, serving to supply the various organs indicated, is designated by the reference C, the charge of this battery being obviously ensured by means of a generator.
When the vehicle is started, so that the latter reaches the speed at which the drive motor operates at its maximum torque, the throttle lever 64, which can, for example, control the injection pump d The supply of a diesel engine is brought to its maximum flow position. As the speed of the motor increases progressively, the balls 6, which are driven in a movement of revolution, act on the cap 7 of the centrifugal governor, so that the ball stop 8 is moved axially in the direction of the arrow Fl (fig. 1) and pivot the fork 9 which drives the shaft 10.
The displacement of the fork 9 has the effect of compressing the adjustment spring 17 as it goes.
The displacement of the cap 7 of the cen trifuge regulator turns the shaft 10, and consequently the lever 21, in the direction of the arrow Fz, considering fig. 3. The movement of the lever 21 is transmitted to the lever 25 which pivots in the direction of the arrow F # ,, so that the latch 37 of the lever 35 is first brought into contact with the top 41a of the balance 39 since this lever 35 is subjected to the action of the spring 38. As the speed of the motor continues to increase, the nose 31 of the part 30 comes into contact with the nose 42 of the balance 39.
For a further increase in engine speed and, consequently, a new displacement of the levers 21 and 27 in the same direction, the part 30, whose nose 31 presses on the nose 42 of the balance 39, pivots about the axis 28 by tensioning the spring 31a, then the nose 31 then escapes from the nose 42.
When the engine â. reaches its normal operating speed, the nose 31 of the part 30 is placed notably below the nose 42 of the balance 39. As the nose 31 passes against the nose 42 of the lance, the latter does not pivot around it. its axis 40 since the lock 37 has its flat part which bears over its entire length against the flat part of the ba lancer 39 and that the spring 3 1a, which is weaker than the spring 38, allows at. the part 30 forming the nose 31 to pivot about the axis 28.
Since the balance 39 has remained stationary, the contacts 51 and 52 have not been brought together and, consequently, the transmission of the movement has taken place regularly to the wheels of the vehicle.
Considering now that the vehicle is subjected to an overload, even momentary, but greater than the load that the engine can withstand, it follows that the speed of the latter decreases, so that the centrifugal force also decreases and the spring 17 tends to move the ca puchon 7 again, but this in the opposite direction to that of the arrow Fi of FIG. 1.
During this last movement the shaft 10 rotates in the opposite direction to that considered above, so that the nose 31 of the part 30 again comes into contact with the nose 42 of the balance 39. If the engine speed continues. to decrease, the shaft 10 turns even more and consequently the nose 31 of the part 30, which cannot rotate since the tab 32 abuts against the finger 33, raises the nose 42 of the balance 39 which pivots around the axis 40.
When the pivoting of the balance reaches a certain amplitude, the latch 37 of the lever 35 engages in the recess 41 formed by said bay lancer 39, the pivoting movement of which has reached at this time a sufficient value for the arm 55 that it presents pushes the pallet 53 which compresses the spring 54 and which brings the contacts 51, 52 one against the other to connect the supply circuit of the relay 56 and of the relay 62 to the ground of the vehicle.
The relays 56 and 62 being energized, the windings of the clutch mechanism B generate a magnetic field which causes this clutch mechanism to operate in the direction in which it produces the disconnection of the motor and simultaneously the supply of the winding of the motor. The control electromagnet 63 of the joystick 64 brings the latter back to zero, which at the same time cuts off the power supply to the motor which does not run the risk of racing.
As long as the engine has not reached its idle speed, the nose 31 of part 30 can escape from the nose 42 of the balance 39, but the windings of the clutch mechanism B and the winding of the electromagnet 63 continue to be supplied since the lock 37 prevents the balance 39 from coming back into abutment against the finger 43.
When the engine has again reached its idling speed, the free end of the lever 27 attacks the adjustable stop 34 of the lever 35 which is raised, so that the latch 37 escapes from the step 41 of the balance 39. The balance 39 subjected the action of the spring 38 is consequently brought back into contact with the stop 43 and the contacts 51, 52 are again separated from one another, so that the relays 56, 62 are no longer energized. With the engine running at idle speed, its speed of rotation is not fast enough for the clutch mechanism B to be able to reconnect it with the wheels of the vehicle.
In the foregoing it has been considered that the installation described was used on a vehicle, but it is quite obvious that it is possible to use it in other applications, in particular in stationary machines.
