Shut-off valve for high pressures The present invention relates to a shut-off valve for high pressures up to about 280 atmospheres. The valve should be able to be remotely controlled, for example, in an airplane by means of mechanical controls or by relatively small electric motors with lugs.
The shut-off valve for high pressures is characterized according to the present invention by two Ab sealing organs, one of which is an elastic closure member and the other is a valve seat and one of which is carried by a movable piston and the other in you ter Connection to the housing is, wherein the piston is coupled to an actuation mechanism which can be actuated from the outside to move the piston between a position in which the sealing elements are separated to a passage between the inlet and the outlet of the housing to release, and a position
in which the sealing elements abut one another to move, the latter position being reached before the actuating mechanism has completed its closing movement, and springs that allow the movement to be completed, and by means to which the fluid has to enter and is effective to compress the sealing elements with a pressure which is greater than the direct pressure which tries to press the sealing elements apart.
There can be a backlash between the mechanism and the piston. The backlash can, however, also be provided between the sealing element forming the valve seat and the valve housing, the last-mentioned sealing element being displaced in contact with the piston.
The valve seat sealing member is then also to be displaceably arranged, the piston being directly connected to the mechanism and the fluid pressure acting constantly on the back of this piston, so that the pressure of the fluid when the valve is closed relieves the mechanism at least partially, while the valve seat sealing member is with it Backlash is displaceable in the valve housing.
The mechanism for separating the two sealing members is advantageously in a dead center position when the valve is closed. It can thus have a crank and a connecting rod in such an arrangement that when the valve is closed they move slightly beyond a dead center position, so that the valve is self-locking in the closed position. Such an arrangement also results in a very great mechanical advantage in the vicinity of the actual closed position, with the forces occurring in any case being able to be kept at a moderate value by a suitable choice of the effective area on the back of the piston.
Practice has shown that the elasticity of the locking ring should not be selected too high, otherwise the fluid could push out the latter at high pressure. A suitable material is fairly hard rubber with sufficient elasticity to ensure a good seal, but also of sufficient hardness to prevent it from being pushed out. Of course, such rubber should only be used where the fluid whose flow is to be regulated does not attack or even dissolve rubber chemically. In general, these valves are used for neutral gas, e.g. B. stick material, or a tolerably neutral gas, e.g. B.
Air, used, so hard rubber is quite acceptable. However, the use of the present valve is not restricted to neutral gases or air, since by choosing a suitable material, for example a suitable quality of elastic synthetic rubber, the valve can be used for other gases, oils, liquid fuels or for hydraulic equipment. fluids used can be used. If a suitable lubricant is used, the valve can also be used for oxygen under pressure.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is illustrated in the drawing. 1 shows the closed valve in longitudinal section, FIG. 2 shows a detail in plan view, FIG. 3 shows a cross section of FIG. 1, FIG. 4 shows a longitudinal section offset by 90 compared to FIG. 1 with the valve closed, and FIG. 5 shows the same section , but with the valve open.
The valve housing 11 has a transverse bore 12 in which a piston 13 sealed by means of at least one ring 14 is slidably arranged. A valve actuating spindle 15 is rotatably mounted in a further borehole arranged at right angles to the transverse bore 12 and sealed by means of rings 16 located in grooves. In view of the high final pressure that can occur at the valve spindle 15, a ball bearing 17 is inserted between a collar 18 of the spindle 15 and a cap 19 held in place by screws 21 (FIG. 3).
For fabrication technology reasons, the bore 12 is located in a part 22 produced separately from the valve housing 11, which is then fitted into the housing 11, the spindle 15 holding the part 22 in its position. The inner end of the spindle 15 has an eccentric crank pin 23 which engages in a bore provided at one end of a short connecting rod 24, the other end of the connecting rod being pivotably mounted at 25 on the piston 13.
At its end remote from the connecting rod, the piston 13 has a threaded pin 26 emerging from the bore 12, on which a stepped nut 27 holding a piston head 28 is seated. A locking ring 29 is inserted between this head and the nut, which is sufficiently elastic and consists, for example, of fairly hard rubber, in order to produce a good seal.
This locking ring 29 has a sealing ring 31 to seal the ring against the head 28 and to prevent the escape of fluid along the inner surface of the head, and in FIG. 5 the right-hand end face of the locking ring 29 protrudes somewhat when the valve is open over the surface formed by the nut 27 and the head 28. The piston head 28 has a jacket 32 which is movably arranged on a machined surface 33 of the protruding part 22 from the valve housing and is sealed against the latter by means of one or more rings 34 seated in grooves.
In this way, an annular space 35 is formed between the piston 13, the head 28 and the jacket 32 on the one hand and the end of the part 22 on the other hand, which is connected via a radial channel 36 to an axial channel 37 opening at the end of the pin 26.
The locking ring 29 cooperates with a seat 38 at the inner end of a cup-like cavity 39 of a valve seat body 41. This valve seat body 41 is slidable in an inlet nozzle 42, which is fastened on one side of the valve housing and has a pipe connection piece, and is sealed off from the latter by means of at least one ring 43, which is in a groove of a central pin that fits into a bore of the nozzle 42. 44 of the valve seat body 41 is seated. Two plate springs 45 press the valve seat body 41 against the valve housing 11.
On the inlet side, the fluid has access via a central bore 40 in the pin 44 into the cavity 39 within the seat 38 and also to the annular end face 44a of the pin 44. Two circular arc-shaped channels 46 passing through the valve housing 11 form a connection between the cavity 39 and an outlet port 47 on the other side of the housing. To improve the flow, the passage on this side is lined with a hemispherical hood 48 attached to the side of the housing 11, which is held firmly between the housing 11 and the outlet nozzle 47 by means of lugs 49. The two nozzles 42, 47 are centered in the housing 11.
An opening 51 in the hood 48 prevents fluid exiting at the piston 13 from being retained in the hood.
The arrow 50 in Fig. 1 denotes the flow direction of the fluid. When the valve is closed, the pressure of the fluid acts on the inside directly on the annular end face 44a of the pin 44 between diameter C and diameter B and fills the space within the locking ring 29 and seat 38 up to diameter A in FIG.
The same fluid pressure also acts on an annular surface between diameter C and diameter A in a direction opposite to the direction of pressure on the annular surface on pin 44, so that only the pressure of the fluid on annular surface 44a on pin 44 is unbalanced that is outside the diameter A, that is, the pressure on the annular surface of the pin 44 between the diameter A and the diameter B. The fluid pressure also acts on the inner space 35 through the channels 37, 36.
The mechanism 15, 23, 24 holds the unit 13, 27-29, 31 constituting the first piston, while the aforementioned unbalanced pressure of the fluid on the annular surface 44a and the springs 45 together determine the pressure of the seat 38 against the locking ring 29 . The pressure exerted by the springs 45 is comparatively small and at least approximately constant. The net fluid pressure acting on the annular surface 44a between the two diameters A and B is proportional to the line pressure. When the valve is closed, there is always a positive pressure of the fluid holding the valve closed.
By choosing the diameters A and B with regard to the elasticity and other properties of the locking ring 29, a good seal of the locking ring 29 on the seat 38 can always be obtained.
The pressure of the flow medium prevailing in the chamber 35 pushes the piston assembly in the closing direction, that is to say to the right in FIG. 1. It acts on the annular surface of the head 28 between the diameter D of the piston 13 and the diameter E. The entire, this unit in the opposite direction ent, so in Fig. 1 to the left, pressing pressure of the fluid is on. pressure acting on a circular area of diameter B. The mentioned circular area up to the diameter B results on the one hand up to the diameter A as an annular surface within the locking ring 29 and on the other hand as an area which on the annular surface 44a has a diameter A is formed up to diameter B .
If the pressure exerted by the springs 45 is ignored, the difference between the forces in the two directions mentioned, i.e. the difference between the annular surface with the inner diameter D and the outer diameter E and the circular surface with the diameter B multiplied by the pressure of the fluid, is determined , the pure axial force acting on the first piston unit, which in turn determines the force to be exerted on the connecting rod 24.
Therefore, the torque to be exerted on the spindle 15 and required to initiate the valve opening movement is completely independent of the actual sealing pressure of the locking ring against the seat 38. Thus, the construction of the valve described here allows the sealing pressure and the opening force to be set independently.
By suitable choice of the two diameters D and E in relation to the diameter B, the torque required to initiate the valve opening movement can be given any desired value in relation to the fluid pressure. Furthermore, the force acting on the first piston assembly as a result of the entry of the fluid pressure into the chamber 35 relieves the connecting rod 24 to the same extent. It is even possible to make the force so great that the connecting rod 24 is subjected to tension.
The two diameters D and E are chosen so that the force pushing the piston assembly to the right slightly exceeds the force acting in the opposite direction.
The range of rotation of the spindle 15 is limited to approximately 180, and the valve is opened when the spindle, as seen in FIG. 4, is rotated counterclockwise. The parts are proportioned so that in the spindle end position when the valve is closed, the crank pin 23 is just slightly above the dead point (see FIG. 4), whereby the valve is self-locking. Any suitable means can be provided to limit the range of rotation of the spindle and built into the external actuation mechanism or into the valve construction itself.
In the present example, the collar 18 has a protruding part 52 (FIG. 2) which cooperates with the stops 53, 54 formed in a plate 55 held between the cap 19 and the valve housing. One advantage of this special actuation mechanism is that in the first opening phase, the crank pin and connecting rod work mechanically very favorably, so that - even if the pressure of the fluid holding the valve closed is high - the valve is operated by only a small amount of torque exerted on the spindle tes can be opened.
After a very small movement, the valve seat body 41 pushes against the valve housing 11, and then the valve begins to open, whereby the pressure of the fluid in the opening direction is no longer limited to the area of diameter A, and therefore there is no longer any question is whether the pressure on the spigot face 44a or the pressure in the chamber 35 exceeds the tendency for the fluid pressure to open the valve.
When the spindle is turned further to retract the piston 13, the fluid in the annular chamber 35 simply flows back through the channels 36, 37 into the inlet and then between the head 28 and the inside of the valve seat body 41 and through the channels 46 in the valve housing 11 to the outlet port 47.
One purpose of the displaceable valve seat body 41 and the springs 45 is to get by with moderate manufacturing tolerances, since these parts make the need for high precision in the position of the locking ring 29 when the valve is closed superfluous. In the case of a large valve, the necessary tolerance can be achieved by giving the connecting rod 24 a corresponding, springy, small range of change in length.
In such a case, the valve seat body 41 with the pin 44 can be omitted, the cavity 39 and the seat 38 being provided in the inlet connection 42. Then the fluid pressure can be used to. Sealing and supplied entirely from chamber 35 for relieving the connecting rod 24, but brought into any desired relationship to the fluid pressure by suitable choice of the two diameters D, E with respect to the diameter B.
The sealing pressure of the fluid then directly counteracts the opening force exerted by the connecting rod 24. But in this context, too, it should be emphasized that the crank and the connecting rod offer a great mechanical advantage. By using short springs in the connecting rod or by attaching stops to limit the above-mentioned length change range, Difficulties due to the tendency of the piston assembly to lag behind the connecting rod would be avoided.
A smaller change that is possible both with the valve described first and with the valve cited last is to mount the locking ring in the cavity 39 and to relocate the seat 38 to the piston head 28.
