Description

Fig. 3 ist ein Querschnitt nach Linie A-B der Fig. 1.

Rope carabiner, especially for use with climbing ropes The subject of the invention is a special embodiment of a rope carabiner. It has been found that the oval or wedge-shaped cross-section of the carabiner that has been used up to now can contribute to premature wear of the rope at the points of contact on the rope.

In order to improve the carabiner in this regard, the leg parts on which the rope engages have a T-shaped cross-section with rounded outlines, the crossbar of which serves as a rope support and which merges continuously into the oval or round cross-section of the other parts . This prevents premature wear of the rope while maintaining the same strength.

The drawing illustrates an example of such a carabiner. Fig. 1 shows the carabiner seen from the broad side and Fig. 2 from the narrow side. FIG. 3 is a cross section taken along line A-B of FIG. 1.

While the carabiner in the middle part 1 has a round or oval cross-section, the two leg parts 2 and 2 ', on which the rope rests on the inside when a tensile force is applied, are notched at 3 on both sides to form the widest possible contact surface so that a T-shaped cross-section with rounded outlines results. The dimensions are, of course, chosen with the necessary flexural strength in mind.

If a simple compression of the cross-section into the T-shape is not sufficient, the cross-section can be reinforced by adding further material.

The widening of the support surface brought about by the T-shaped cross-section is greatest in the middle of the rope support. The T-cross section then merges continuously into the oval or round cross-section of the other parts of the carabiner.

Claims (1)

PATENT CLAIM Rope carabiners, especially for use with climbing ropes, characterized in that the leg parts (2 and 2 ') on which the rope engages have a T-shaped cross-section with rounded outlines, the crossbar of which serves as a rope support and which is continuously in the oval or round cross-section of the remaining parts passes.
