B. 2-Methyl-pentandiol- (1, 3) , 2-Ätli@rl-pentandiol- (1,3), 2,2-Dimethyl-pentandiol- (1,3), 2-Methyl-hexandiol-(1,3), 2-Äthy 1-hexandiol- (1, 3) , 2,2-Diniethyl-liexandiol- (1,3), 2,2,4-Trimethyl-pentandiol- (l ,3) , 2,2-Diäthy 1-pentandiol- (1,3), 2,2-Diäthyl-hexandiol-(1,3) , 2,2-Diäthy 1-4-metliyl-pentandiol- (1,30), 2-Methyl-2-propyl-pentandiol- (1,3), 2-Methy 1-2-propylhexandiol- (1, 3) , 2,4-Dimethy 1-2-propyl-pentandiol- (1,3).

a) Versprüht man in einem verseuchten Raum, z.

Room disinfectants It is known that for the disinfection of contaminated rooms, that is to say for the disinfection, i.e. weakening or deadly of germs in the rooms, such chemical substances are particularly suitable that contain oxygen-ulipen, be it that these are present as carbon nwl groups, as with the aldehydes, z.
B. formaldehyde, or that they are present as hydroxyl groups, as in the case of phenol, its homologues and analogues or, finally, as in the case of hydrogen peroxide and its ab- The use of these disinfectants in human and animal hygiene, eg. B. in the disinfection of living rooms and living rooms, it is known that difficulties arise from the properties of the substances mentioned.
These substances can have harmful or annoying side effects by irritating the skin and the olfactory, sell and respiratory organs etc., as well as by destructive attacks on metal surfaces, textile linings, laek coatings etc. The more concentrated the subject, the more pronounced the disadvantages. !. 'end substances used for a complete germ count. Need to become. Furthermore, these substances are z. B. on calcareous @ vanilla parts change rapidly and are therefore of only short-term effectiveness.
For this reason it is hardly possible until now. been, room disinfection z. B. in animal stalls effectively and sustainably, that is, with an effort that is acceptable in practice.
One has. also already proposed glycols such as butylene glycol, polyglycols such as triglycol, and ether alcohols such as the monoalkyl ethers of ethylene glycol and diglycol, as well as their. Solutions to use. These compounds are odorless or awake and should have a good germicidal effect in particular in a fine, mist-like distribution, as is achieved by spraying or atomizing, but sometimes also in vaporized form and even in small concentrations.
However, the glycols, polyglycols and ether alcohols, which are clearly superior to the first-mentioned substances with regard to harmful or troublesome side effects, have a serious disadvantage. This is because, in particular when they are diluted and used in sprayed form to disinfect surfaces, they are unable to remove germs with greater chemoresistance, such as.
B. tubercle bacteria and coli bacteria to destroy.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It has now been found that the above-mentioned disadvantages and difficulties occurring in room disinfection can be avoided by using a room disinfectant that contains 2 or more dihydric alcohols with 5 or more carbon atoms, which have the 2nd hydroxyl group in the 3-position to one carry primary hydroxyl group, and optionally a liquid distribution agent, preferably water, and / or contains further additives, is used.
As dihydric alcohols with 5 or more carbon atoms which carry the 2nd hydroxyl group in the 3-position to a primary hydroxyl group, for example pentanediol (1,3), hexanediol (1,3), heptanediol (1 , 3) use. Those dihydric alcohols which are alkyl-substituted in the 2-position to the primary hydroxyl group are particularly suitable, e.g.
B. 2-methyl-pentanediol- (1, 3), 2-Ätli @ rl-pentanediol- (1,3), 2,2-dimethyl-pentanediol- (1,3), 2-methylhexanediol- (1 , 3), 2-ethyl-1-hexanediol- (1,3), 2,2-diniethyl-liexanediol- (1,3), 2,2,4-trimethyl-pentanediol- (1,3), 2,2 -Diethy 1-pentanediol- (1,3), 2,2-diethylhexanediol- (1,3), 2,2-diethy 1-4-methylpentanediol- (1,30), 2-methyl-2 -propyl-pentanediol- (1,3), 2-methy 1-2-propylhexanediol- (1,3), 2,4-dimethyl 1-2-propyl-pentanediol- (1,3).
Two or more of these dihydric alcohols are mixed with one another in varying proportions. The mixtures of dihydric alcohols make even in very small concentrations, especially when they are used or sprayed in solution, preferably in water, germs with greater chemoresistance, e.g. T. tubercle and coli bacteria, innocuous. Surprisingly, the effect of these mixtures is considerably greater than the sum of the individual effects of the individual compounds.
A particularly suitable liquid distribution medium is water. You can use emulsions, if appropriate, known emulsifiers, such as. B. add the niclit-ionic emulsifiers based on the aliphatic Polyglvkolester of stearic or oleic acid, which promote the distribution of the alcohols in water and promote the wetting of the surfaces sprayed with the solutions.
Furthermore, the effectiveness of the Ce inishe of dihydric alcohols of the type mentioned can be increased. if one adds compounds from the group of glycols with less than 5 carbon atoms, polyglycols, monoethers of glycols or polyglycols to the room germs. Such compounds are e.g.
B. the * lethylene glycol, the butylene glycol, the Äthylenglykolnionoäthyläther, the diethylene glycol, the triethylene glycol, the: \ Ionoäthyläther of the diethylene glycol and the trietliylene glycol. The addition of these compounds, which on their own already have a more or less good germicidal effect, increases the effect of the above-mentioned mixtures of dihydric alcohols up to one (Trude, which goes far beyond the total effect.
The application of the Raunientno) an #) s- agents is expediently carried out in a known manner in vaporized, sprayed or nebulized form, with an aerosol generated by nebulization, in particular acting on germs in the room air, while spraying is then used is when surfaces such. B. walls, ceilings, floors are to be sterilized. The effective alcohols result in the nebulization, especially their solutions. excellent resistant aerosols.
When spraying, they wet. the surfaces to be disinfected in an excellent way and remain effective for a long time because they do not react with lime, for example.
Even in very small concentrations, the effective alcohols render the germs in the room, in particular germs with greater chemoresistance, harmless within short exposure times. Their handling is so easy and harmless that they can be handled without a previous one

Protective or security measures can be applied.
Example 1 5 parts of 2-ethyl-pentanediol- (1,3) and 5 parts of 2-ethylhexanediol- (1,3) are taken up in 90 parts of water.
The room disinfecting agent composed in this way gives the following result in the test. If 5 em3 of a sterile rinsed suspension of streptococci of serological group A is exposed for 15 minutes to the action of 5 em3 of the above room disinfectant, the germs are practically completely eliminated .. kills. Even after incubating for 24 hours on a suitable nutrient medium at 37, see 1; one more growth can be seen.
If, all other things being equal, a mixture of. 10 parts of 2-ethyl pentanediol (1,3), 10 parts of 2-ethyl-liexanediol (1,3) and 80 parts of water, if required. the complete killing of germs less than 1 5 minutes.
If one uses a mixture of 25 parts 2-, # @ thyl; pentanediol- (1,3) alone with 75 parts of water, one brews about 60 minutes in order to completely kill the germs.
The alcohol mixture used is pharmacologically harmless and does not cause irritation, effects or even nuisance on the skin or on the mucous membranes.
Example.? 2.5 parts of 2-ethyl-hexanediol (1,3), 2.5 parts of 2,2,4-trimethyl-pentanediol (1,3) and 1.4 parts of one of the lauryl poly glycol ether of Formula C121,250 (C21,40) 6C21,4011 existing emulsifier; s are taken up in 93.6 parts of water.
The room sanitizing agent composed in this way gives the following result in the test: If the above mixture is allowed to act on a freshly prepared suspension of TB bacteria in the manner described in Example 1, it takes 25 minutes until all germs have been killed needed. If the concentration is increased to 4 parts of 2-ethylhexanediol (1,3) and 4 parts of 2,2,4-trimethylpentanediol (1,3) to 100 parts of emulsion, the action time is reduced until the germs are completely destroyed on 15 minutes.
The alcohol used is pharmacologically safe and does not cause irritation or even nuisance on the skin or on the mucous membranes.
Example 3 12.5 parts of 3-ethyl-pentanediol (1,3) and 12.5 parts of 2-ethyl-butanediol (1,3) are taken up in 75 parts of water.
The room disinfectant composed in this way gives the following result in the test: The in vitro test with TB bacteria is carried out by subjecting a freshly prepared suspension to the action of the above mixture and then proceeding as in Example 1 with the treated culture It can be established that after the diol mixture has been exposed to the mixture for 60 minutes, the germs' ability to grow has practically ceased.
The alcohol mixture used is pharmacologically harmless and does not cause irritation or even nuisance on the skin or the mucous membranes.
With a room disinfectant according to the invention, the room disinfection, which is divided into two operations, namely a.) The disinfection of the walls, floors and b) the disinfection of the room air enclosed by the surfaces, can be carried out as follows: One uses in in both cases technical auxiliary devices that ensure a suitable distribution of the active substances in dilute
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ter or in undiluted form as vapor, spray or aerosol.
When disinfecting the surfaces, spraying is preferred, while aerosols are preferably used to disinfect the room lift. The effectiveness of the surface disinfection is measured in such a way that before and after the disinfection "swabs are made from the surface in question with the help of sterile cotton balls, the germs taken up are removed from the cotton with physiological saline solution, incubated in nutrient solutions and then the number of Counts germs.
To determine the number of germs in the room air. Petri dishes filled with nutrient solution (agar-agar) are exposed to the gradually sinking bacteria for an appropriate time. The infected shells are incubated. Then the number of germs is determined by counting.
a) If you spray in a contaminated room, e.g. B. an animal house, per square meter wall area 17-20 mg of a solution consisting of 8 parts. len a mixture of equal parts? - Ethyl pentanediol (1,3) and 2,2-dimeth @> 1-pentanediol (1,3), 15 parts of ethylene glycol:
oil and 77 parts of water, a killing of more than 85% of the germs detectable on the surfaces is achieved after a short time.
b) Fogged. one in a contaminated room, e.g. B. an animal stable, a 15% solution of equal parts of 2-ethyl-hexanediol (1,3) and 2-ethyl-pentanediol (1,3) in ethylene glycol, which in the ratio? : 1 has been diluted with water in such a way that 2 g of the above-mentioned solution are distributed per n13 space, a destruction of more than 80% of that present in the space is achieved. Germs.
If instead a 15% solution of 2-r @ thylpentanediol (I., 3) in: @ thyleiig @ lyhol in the same aqueous dilution is used for room disinfection, only about 50 are obtained according to the subsequent determination of the number % of germs killed.
