Process for the production of e-Caprolaetam e-Caprolaetam is mostly produced by rearrangement of cyclohexarone oxime, which in turn is produced from phenol via cyclohexanol and (. "Yclohexanone or from nitrocyclohexane).
It has also already been proposed to obtain e-caprolaetam from e-aminocaproic acid or from its lower acyl derivatives, which can easily be cleaved under alkaline conditions, with the help of alkaline substances by heating to decomposition temperatures. Sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium amide, etc. are proposed as alkaline accelerators. The reaction is preferably carried out in diluents such as ditolyl ether, diphenylamine etc. or in alkaline melts, in particular #sealmelts of alkali metal salts of lower fatty acids.
It has now been found that s-caprolactam can be obtained in excellent yield from e-amino-eapronic acid amide even without the use of alkaline agents, by heating it in the presence of inert gas and solvent. It is expedient to heat to over 150 at pressures of 20 to 150 atm. Particularly suitable solvents are dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, ethanol or other low-boiling liquids. The inert gas used is primarily hydrogen or stick material.
The reaction temperature can be between 100 and 300; It is advantageous to choose temperatures between 180 and 230 C. It is. It can be assumed that in addition to the reaction of ring closure of aminocaproic acid amide to lactam with elimination of ammonia, a second reaction occurs, namely the formation of s, s-iminodicaproic acid amide, also with elimination of ammonia, but in contrast to the first reaction from two molecules of E-aminocaproic acid amide .
The formation of e-caprolaetam is strongly preferred over the formation of s, s-iminodicaproic acid amide. The formation of this secondary amino compound can be suppressed practically completely if ammonia is added to the reaction mixture.
The reaction can be carried out continuously in a pressure tube in a known manner, and yields of more than 95 / a of α-minocaprolactam can be obtained. EXAMPLES 1. 32.5 parts of co-aminocaproamide are dissolved in 300 parts of dioxane and treated in an autoclave for 90 minutes at a hydrogen pressure of 50 atmospheres and at a temperature of 200.degree. After cooling, the reaction mixture is filtered to remove the precipitated iminodicaproic acid amide and the solution is evaporated.
The residue is then distilled at 3 mm Hg. The yield is. 92% pure lacquer

tam and 5% iminodicaproic acid amide. The turnover is quantitative.
2. 32.5 parts of w-aminocaproic acid amide are -under the same conditions as in. Example 1 are given, implemented. However, 40 parts of ammonia are added to the starting mixture. The conversion is 82.1% and the yield of pure lactam is 95.2%. Iminodicaproamide is only obtained in traces.
3. 32.5 parts of co-aminocaproic acid amide are dissolved in 300 parts of dioxane and kept at 220 ° C. for 60 minutes under a nitrogen pressure of 50 atmospheres. At a conversion of 62.6%, 91.2% pure lactam and 4% iminodicaproic acid amide are obtained.
