Luminescent screen The invention relates to a luminescent screen with a red luminescent fabric. It also relates to the manufacture of such a screen.
It is now known that luminescent materials are often softened for various purposes. The most important application can be in electric gas discharge lamps, in cathode ray tubes for television, oszillography or radar, in light dyes and for covering objects that must be visible in the dark, e.g. B. Radio buttons and pointers Air 3Tesswerke are called.
The color of the light emitted by the himinescent fabrics can vary between deep blue and deep red. For practically any color poses. A number of substances are available from which a selection can be made, taking into account the various requirements with regard to resistance, temperature dependence, etc. Very limited, however, was the selection of luninescent substances which appear red when exposed to ultraviolet radiation or electrons - lenelii en.
hürzlieli a new, red luminescent substance was described that has many beneficial properties. This substance is ins magnesium arsenate activated with manganese. From precise investigations it has been shown that this red liiliiinesziei # encle substance has a ratio between magnesium oxide and arsenic pentoxy @ ± molecules of 6: 1.
In the production of compounds, it is true that such quantities can be assumed that this ratio of 6: 1 is not taken into account; However, it has been found that in this case the end product always has more than one phase. If the ratio between magnesium oxide and arsenic pentoxide is less than 6: 1, an intermediate system with MgeAs2011 and 11g3As208 is created, which does not or only hardly lights up.
If the ratio is greater than 6: 1, a two-phase system is created with the red luminescent Mg8As2011 mixed with Mg0. For all of these substances the amount of: Manganese can vary from 0.001 to 0.1 atom per molecule lfgsAsz011.
The presence of Mg3As208 or Mg0 next to the compound MgsAs201i only has a disruptive effect when the light yield of the two-phase systems is lower than that of the pure MgeAs2011. It turned out that the Mg3As208 is more disturbing than the Mg0. This can probably be explained by the fact that the first-mentioned compound has a much greater absorption - for the radiation hitting the luminescent substance than the Mg0.
As noted above, the MgeAS2011 has many beneficial properties. In practice, one of the most important is the favorable temperature dependency of the intensity of the emitted radiation, which means that a large amount of light is emitted even at higher temperatures. This is particularly important when the arsenate is used in or in conjunction with gas discharge tubes, especially I-holed mercury vapor discharge tubes.
With the latter, the actual discharge vessel is often housed in an enveloping bulb, which is usually coated on the inside with the luminescent substance. Since the discharge tube emits a particularly large amount of heat, the surrounding bulb will also become very warm under normal conditions. It is therefore necessary to provide certain minimum dimensions for the flask, since most fluorescent substances show a sharp decrease in the light yield when the temperature exceeds about 100.degree.
The red luminescent arsenate described above, however, maintains its high luminous efficacy up to a temperature of about 250 C. For high watt consumption (higher than 250 W), however, nian still has to choose a bulb that is so large that it is difficult to mount the lamp in fittings. It is therefore desirable, inter alia, to have a red luminescent substance available for this application which has an even better temperature dependency. A luminescent screen according to the invention contains such a substance.
A luxminescent screen according to the invention contains a red luminescent material which consists of a magnesium-lithium arsenate activated with manganese, which has the formula x Mg0 - 9 Li20 - z As205 : p </ I > Mn corresponds to, where (x + 2y): z = 6: list and y: z is between 0.1 and 1.0 and p: z is between 0.001 and 0.1.
The difference to the well-known red luminescent arsenate lies in the presence of lithium in the luminescent material. It is surprising that the ratio between the sum of the number of atoms of Magneshum and lithium and the number of atoms of arsenic is 3: 1. The lithium apparently replaces part of the magnesium in the lattice.
In comparison tests, you can see that the ratio y: z = 4: 10 provides the best temperature dependence. The amount of manganese is preferably chosen such that s P: z = 1-100 ..
For the sake of completeness it should be noted that most of the other properties of the -41a- 4xziesium-Litliiuniarsenat are practically the same as those of the corresponding magnesium arsenate. Radiation excitation can take place, for example, by radiation with a wavelength of 2537 A as well as with a wavelength of 3650 A; the radiation emitted then has a maximum between 6300 and 6700 A.
Another difference between your arsenate with lithium and the one without lithinin is that the first-mentioned substance is even more chemically stable.
The red luminescent fabric can be made in different ways. It is essential that the fabric is preferably heated above 500 C in an oxidizing atmosphere. This is probably related to the state of oxidation in which. (read manganese must be in the material.
For the magnesium-lithium arsenate activated with manganese it is also true that in the production of such quantities of magnesium-containing, lithium-containing and arsenic-containing compounds that after the. Heating process in the reaction product the atomic ratio (Mg + Li): As not equal to 3: 1. is.
It can be seen that in this case, too, two phases occur side by side, that is to say. either Mg; As., Os or Mg0 next to the red luminescent component. It is curious, however, that although the red luminescent component has an atomic ratio (Mg + Li): As = 3: 1, it is sometimes better to manufacture from. Such quantities of raw materials assume that this ratio is greater than 3: 1.
It results, then you often see a better light yield than when running out of quantities of raw materials, which are calculated exactly to a ratio of 1. are. If desired, the reaction mixture can be red. Separate the ininescent component. Particularly good results can be achieved if, in the production of arsenates, fluorine or boron-containing compounds, eg.
B. lanesiiinifluorid or boron trioxide, used as selimelting agent. Analysis of the compounds produced in this way has shown that part of the fluorine or boron of the fluxing agent is present in the end product in. a better crystallization state, a lowering of the manufacturing stone temperature and in a shorter heating time.
In a luminescent screen according to the invention, in addition to the red luminescent substance, other luminescent substances occur either in the same or in others. Parts of the spectrum have a maximum emission.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to a number of production examples.
In all manufacturing processes.? Very high purity starting materials are used, as is customary in the manufacture of 1.uniinescent substances. It is also ensured that the substance is sufficient to achieve good reactivity.
Very small amounts of foreign substances, which in most cases cannot or can only be detected in analysis, are generally not disruptive; they must be viewed as inevitable unity.
Example, I A mixture of 360 g of Mg0, 14.8 g of Li2C03, 30 g of As205 and 2.3 g of hInC03 is produced. This mixture is ground in 1.5 liter 'V' water in a ball mill. The suspension obtained is then dried dry, and the dry material is heated for one hour to a temperature of about 600 C in air or oxygen.
This is done for 16 hours. heated again to 1200 C, also in air or oxygen.
Example II A mixture of 215 g Mg0, 22.2 g Li2CO3, 230 g As 205) 1.1.g MnCO3 and 6.2 g MgF2 is produced. The mixture is ground in a ball mill with the addition of 1.5 liters of alcohol. The suspension obtained is evaporated dry and the dry material is preheated in air to a temperature of about 600 ° C. for one hour. This is then heated to a temperature of 1100 C in air for a further three hours.
Example III A mixture of 215 g Mg0, 22.2 g Li2C03, 2 30 g As205, 1.1 g MnCO3 and 3.0 g B203 is produced. This mixture is ground in a ball mill with the addition of water. The suspension obtained is evaporated dry, and the dry product is heated to a temperature of 600 ° C. in air for 10 hours. Then it is heated to about 1100 C for 16 hours in air or in an oxygen atmosphere.
Example IV It is assumed that 200g As203. This oxide is mixed with water, whereupon 0.5 liter of 30% 11202 is added to the suspension obtained. It is then slowly heated to the boiling point until all the arsenic oxide has dissolved.
After cooling, it is filtered and the filtrate is transferred to an evaporation dish. 250 g of Mg0, 29.6 g of Li2CO3 and 1.1 g of MnCO3 are gradually added while stirring continuously. The whole is evaporated and the dry fabric is in air for three hours. preheated to a temperature of about 600C. It is then heated to a temperature of around 1200 C in air or in oxygen. The latter heating takes about 16 hours.
The substances obtained after the heating, 1.11s in the examples given, are ground and sieved if necessary and are then ready for frying. They can then be attached, for example, to the wall of a discharge tube, to a reflector, to the head of a radio device or to the pointer of a measuring mechanism. They are then particularly suitable for use on the inside of a bulb that surrounds a high-pressure mercury vapor discharge tube.
The drawing attached for explanation shows a graph in which the ordinate shows the light yield of various red luminescent substances according to the invention with an excitation radiation of 3650 Å in any units. The temperature in degrees Celsius is plotted as the abscissa of the graph. The curves in the graph are denoted by 1 to 6, and the table below shows the composition of the substances which these curves produce.
