Tamping machine for railway tracks Tampers for railway tracks very often include tool holders arranged in pairs on either side of the sleeper to be tamped, and which can be alternately brought together and removed from each other by various means such as screws and nuts, pressure cylinders, etc., while being actuated in vibrations (during tamping work) by the effect of at least one eccentric element, for example an eccentric, an unbalance, etc. , maintained by an appropriate motor device.
In certain known constructions, the engine is integral with the vehicle, called the fixed frame, and a mechanical transmission using, for example, chains, cardans, belts, etc., drives the shaft carrying the eccentric element which is mounted on the said movable frame carrying the tool holders, which can thus be pushed in and removed from the ballast to move from one cross member to the next. These mechanical transmission devices are of complicated construction, relatively expensive, delicate for the hard services required on a site; they require numerous spare parts to compensate for the wear of the components, etc., so that an attempt has been made to install an auxiliary motor directly on each mobile frame in order to obtain the desired rotation.
This can present great difficulties, in particular, in the case of an electric motor, because the use of such a motor has multiple drawbacks, the main ones of which are the volume and the weight, too high to allow a satisfactory construction of the mobile frame, not to mention the need for a large generator.
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks and relates to a tamping machine for a railway track, of the type comprising at least one pair of tool holders, and means for imparting to the latter a vibrating movement, the tool holders being carried by a frame which is movable in height relative to the frame of the tamper and whose movement causes the tools to sink into the last ball and their withdrawal therefrom.
The tamping machine according to the invention is characterized in that said means for imparting a vibration movement to the tool holders comprise at least one fluid motor (compressible or incompressible) rotating an eccentric element which can be, for example, a unbalance or eccentric.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, six embodiments of the tamping machine according to the invention. Figs. 1 to h each relate to one of these embodiments. The tamping machine shown in FIG. 1 com takes a fixed frame, not shown, carrying a mobile frame 1, illustrated simply by two plates. On this mobile frame is mounted a screw 2, axially fixed and having two threads in opposite directions.
On each of these threads is mounted a nut 3 on which a tool-holder arm 4 pivots. The middle part of the screw 2 is integral with a wheel 5, the rotation of which in one direction or the other makes it possible to approach or d '' move the tools (picks) 6 symmetrically away from the tool holders 4.
At their upper end, the tool-holder arms 4 are set in vibration, during the tamping work, thanks to their articulation, at 7, on a pair of levers 8 carried and each actuated by an eccentric element 9 constituted by an eccentric . The two eccentrics 9 are attached to a common shaft 10 driven in rotation by a fluid motor 11 which, in the case of the example, is a hydraulic motor. The latter is connected, by a supply duct, 12, and an exhaust duct, 13, respectively, to a supply pump 14 and to a reservoir 15, both mounted on the fixed frame.
A safety valve 16 is arranged at the outlet of the pump 14, to discharge liquid into the tank in the event of dangerous overpressure. The inlet of the pump is connected, by a pipe 17, to the tank 15.
It is clear that the pump 14 and the motor 11 are placed in series and that the conduits 12 and 13 must be such as to allow the movements of the mobile frame; they can be flexible or formed of articulated or sliding sections.
It is understood that the lowering of the mobile frame 1 produces the sinking of the tools 6 in the ballast to be stuffed, that the bringing together of these tools while they are set and kept in vibration by the motor 11 and the eccentrics 9, produces this jam. The rise of the mobile frame 1 corresponds to the release of the tools from the ballast.
In the following examples, the parts identical or homologous to certain parts of a previously described embodiment have been designated by the same reference numbers. .
On the fi-. 2, it can be seen that the mobile frame 1 carries the hydraulic motor 11 connected, by conduits 12 and 13, to the pump 14 and to the reservoir 15 carried by the fixed frame, not shown. 18 shows a hydraulic actuating device of a tool holder, not shown, which is provided with a control distributor 19 which is connected to conduits 12 and 13. The motor 11 and the device 18 can thus be operated. placed in parallel on the conduits 12 and 13 (that is to say on the pump) by the action of the distributor 19.
On the fi-. 3, reproducing the same essential organs, the connection is made so that the hydraulic motor 11 can be connected in series with the device 18 actuating the tool holder via the distributor 19. The order of the members 11 and 19 can be reversed.
In this series connection, and according to the needs of the installation, a greater or lesser part of the flow coming from the pump 14 can be derived from the circuit of the motor 11, before or after the latter, to supply directly the device 19, for example, as shown in phantom lines by the conduit 20, a flow regulator 21 regulating the power supplied to the engine. It is clear that the engine can also be provided on the exhaust pipe 13.
A particular arrangement of this series assembly consists in using a more or less large part, which may go as far as the whole, of the fluid which passes through the motor, to actuate one of the movements of the device 18, for example the opening, a second pump then ensuring the closing of the tool holder. Fig. 4 schematically shows a case of this kind, with an appropriate type of distributor.
On the movable frame 1 is fixed a device 18 for actuating a tool holder (not shown), in the form of a lever, the median articulation of which is fixed at 22 on the piston 23 movable in the cylinder 24, and whose upper articulation (not shown) is actuated in vibrations by the effect of an eccentric part, not shown, maintained in rotation by the hydraulic motor 11, with vane for example, supplied by a gear pump 25 said opening, provided with a safety valve 26, adjustable, and which sucks through a filter 27 the oil of a reservoir 15.
A second pump 28, called a closing pump, also comprising an adjustable safety valve 29 and a suction filter 30, can also supply the device 18 at certain times by means of the distributor 19 controlling the closing, opening. or the tool holder block according to the position of its drawer 31 which can be actuated using the lever 32 supposedly mounted on the fixed frame not shown.
The operation is then as follows When the control lever 32 is, as shown in solid lines, in the so-called stop position, the opening pump 25 rotates the hydraulic motor 11 whose output 33 is found to be to the escape through the distributor 19 and the duct 34 which also discharges in this case the outlet 35 of the closing pump 28, while the liquid contained in one or the other of the chambers 36 and 37 of the pressure 24 cannot escape through the conduits 38, respectively 39, closed by the dispensing spool 31, for this position thereof. The articulation 22 of the tool holder is thus blocked in any intermediate position.
Thus during all the periods when the movements of the tool holders are stopped, the full pressure of the opening pump 25, which is regulated by its valve 26, can practically be exerted on the hydraulic motor 11, which then gives its full power, which is particularly useful at the time of initial start-up to overcome inertia forces and friction.
When the lever 32 is brought into the opening position shown in phantom lines, the opening pump 25 continues to supply the motor 11, the exhaust of which can no longer be made freely through the duct 34 under the effect of projection 40 of the slide 31, but then occurs, under a certain back pressure, through the duct 38 in the chamber 36, the other chamber 37 being released to the free exhaust through the ducts 39 and 41 brought into communication by the spool 31 with the conduit 34 which continues to let the liquid (oil) freely escape from the closing pump 28.
The piston 23 then moves in the direction of the arrow, thus causing the opening of the tool holder. This movement continues, provided that the control lever 32 is not returned to the middle position, called the stop position, until the piston 23 is blocked at the end of the stroke or, where appropriate, by a parasitic resistance. abnormal at any point in the course. The oil from the opening pump 25 is then diverted by the discharge valve 42 which makes it possible to adjust the value of the maximum back pressure, the safety valve 26 only intervening in the event of an overload of the motor 11. .
Thus, during the opening period of the tool holder, the device 18 which actuates it and the motor 11 are connected in series to the opening pump 25 while the closing pump 28 delivers a vacuum. Normally the back pressure is low since the tools are not braked by the ballast during opening.
When the lever 32 is brought into the closed position, shown in dotted lines, the opening pump 25 still supplies the motor 11, the free exhaust of which continues to take place through the distributor 19 and the conduits 33 and 34, then that the closing pump 28 feeds, through the conduits 35, 41, 38 and 39 placed in communication by the slide 31, simultaneously the chambers 36 and 37 where the common pressure rises progressively and then determines, due to the different sections of the piston 23 on which it acts, the closing movement of the tool holder until the compression force in the ballast, the stop at the end of the stroke or, where appropriate,
any abnormal resistance on the mechanism reaches a limit value which can be adjusted by the maximum closing pressure using the discharge valve 29 which ensures the escape of the excess oil.
Thus during the jam period, the motor 11 can still provide its full power to maintain the vibrations which tend to dampen especially during this period, while the pump 28 is sufficient on its own to ensure the relatively slow closing of the door. tools.
Depending on the characteristics of the motor and the pumps used, it may be advantageous to achieve a temporary series-parallel coupling of these components. The diagram fig. 5 shows a particular application which, to simplify the explanation, is taken from the diagram fig. 4 above with its designations, and which then has the following features. When stopped, the chamber 37 is isolated, the chamber 36 being released to the free exhaust through the conduits 38 and 34, the piston 23 therefore remains blocked.
If the lever 32 is brought into the open position (dashed lines), then the two opening and closing pumps 25 and 28 are placed in parallel by their duct 33 and 35 in communication through the distributor 19 with the conduit 38 of the chamber 36, the chamber 37 being in the free exhaust via the conduits 39, 43 and 34. The so-called closing pump 28 thus participates in opening and accelerates it, while the hydraulic motor 11 continues to work in series with the piston 23.
When the latter comes to a standstill under the limit force, it is the discharge valve 29 which ensures the common exhaust of the two pumps 25 and 28 at the maximum opening back pressure, the valve 42 (fig. 4) can then "be deleted.
The closing actuation is identical to the previous case, the conduit 39 however dies in the open air. In this case the two pumps output at 36 and 37.
To actuate a pair of tool holders facing each other, it suffices to mount a second device 18a symmetrically to the previous device 18, as shown in phantom in fi-. 5 and to supply the corresponding chambers in parallel, for example by directly connecting the duct 38a to the duct 38, and the duct 39a to the duct 39.
Likewise, if, as is generally the case, a mobile frame comprises several tool holders, it is also advantageous to supply the corresponding chambers in parallel by a connection similar to the previous one and easy to imagine. Thus all the tools of the same chassis will be activated simultaneously.
For the application of these principles of use, the location of the control members on the movable frame or on the fixed frame, does not play any role, any more besides than the type of construction of the food pumps which can, in particular, be united in pumping groups, or the embodiment of the dispenser which can be divided into several parts, operated remotely by mechanical remote control, by a pressurized fluid, by an electrical device, etc., or any other known way.
In the embodiment according to fig. 6, the hydraulic motor 11 is mounted on the return pipe common to the two pumps 25 and 28 (fig. 5), so that, provided that their safety valve 26 or 29, set to a sufficient limit pressure, does not not operate and the leaks are negligible, all of the two combined flows continuously supply the hydraulic motor 11, the operation of which then imposes a certain back pressure in the central duct of the distributor.
It follows, for example, that whatever the movements of the piston 23 actuating the tool holder, the speed of rotation of the motor 11 will be constant if that of each of the (positive-displacement) pumps 25 and 28 is also constant and the fluid used is a liquid; the eccentric shaft is thus practically linked in rotation to the shaft driving the two pumps for example, that is to say to the motor mounted on the fixed frame, and this even in the transient regimes caused by the displacement of the dispensing spool 31.
When the lever 32 is in the middle position (solid lines), as shown, the two pumps 25 and 28 therefore flow through the distributor 19, then through its common return duct 44 through the hydraulic motor 11, the two relief valves 45, 46 are not involved. In the event of damage (grip page) to the motor, for example, one of the safety valves 26 or 29, or both, prevent overloading of the pumps.
The oil contained in chamber 37 cannot escape and blocks the piston in any intermediate position.
When the lever 32 is brought into the open position (dashed lines), the opening pump 25 alone supplies the chamber 36 through the conduit 38 while the chamber 37 is placed, through the conduit 39, in communication - as also the pump 28 - with the return line 44, under the back pressure exerted by the motor 11. The chamber 37 is then placed in parallel with the pump 28. As soon as the pressure produced by the pump 25 is sufficient, the piston 23 moves to the left, thus opening the tool holder. When piston 23 is immobilized for any reason, dump valve 46 shifts flow from pump 25 directly to motor 11.
When the lever is brought to the closed position (dotted lines), the movement of the piston 23 can occur in the opposite direction to the previous one, under the effect of the iron pump 28 supplying alone the chamber 37 while the chamber 36 is placed in parallel with the opening pump 25, their common flow escaping under a certain back pressure through the conduit 44 through the motor 11. When the piston stops, the pump 28 discharges through its valve 45 directly on the engine 11.
The opening and closing pressures in the chambers 36 and 37 depend not only on the sections of these chambers, but also on the resistances encountered by the piston 23 actuating the tool holder. During opening, this resistance is low because only organic friction is involved, while during closing, that is to say during tamping work, the tools are braked by the ballast to be compressed. The fluid motor can be operated. absolutely any, for example of the volumetric type such as a vane motor, gear motor, rotary piston motor, etc., or else of the turbo-machine type such as a propeller, action or reaction turbine, etc.
Its mode of connection to the shaft to be driven also plays no role. The fluid used, such as oil, water, air, etc., can also be of any type and supplied by a source of any known type, such as a pump, compressor, etc., which can be mounted for example on the fixed frame and is then connected to the fluid motor by a flexible, articulated or smoothing duct. Of course, this transmission unit must be equipped with known auxiliary components, essential for its proper functioning.
In this regard, it will be noted that it is advantageous for the stuffing to keep a frequency of vibrations which is substantially constant, and, where appropriate, adjustable to a determined set value. The hydraulic transmission lends itself particularly well to this purpose.
Thus, when the motor and the pump element are of the positive-displacement type and the fluid used is a liquid, the frequency of vibrations can then be imposed by the driving speed of the pump; and the group offers the advantage of being a reducer or a constant speed multiplier, which can also function as an accidental overload force limiter if a simple adjustable relief valve is connected in bypass on the duct. power supply to the motor.
When, on the other hand, the motor or its pump, or both at the same time, are of the turbo-machine type, there is still, when the fluid employed is elastic, for example air, the maintenance of the frequency of vibrations at a value constant can be ensured by a speed regulator device of any kind, influenced by the shaft to be driven and acting on the fluid used, for example on its flow rate, or even on the speed of the pumping element.
The hydraulic transmission then offers the advantage of being able to produce a variable speed drive with continuous or progressive adjustment, which makes it possible to use the best frequency of vibrations adapted to the jamming conditions, possibly with a limitation of the forces transmitted.
In a variant, the means for printing a vibratory movement on the tool holders could act not directly on these tool holders but on the mobile frame which carries them; the vibrations would therefore be transmitted to the tool carriers via this frame, which would then be a vibrating frame.
