Method for manufacturing a blade having at least one internal channel The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a blade having at least one internal channel, for example a blade for a rotor or stator of a turbine. gas or compressor.
In some blades of this kind, it is desirable to provide internal channels which can be used for cooling the blade (or, in certain cases, for heating it) and it is important that these channels, in the vane completed, have exact dimensions and shapes, and be precisely positioned relative to the rest of the vane.
It will be mentioned that there is a known process for the manufacture of turbine distributor blades with internal channels, according to which a steel billet is first of all pierced with several holes each having the prescribed diameter and which are located in their determined relative position, these holes then being filled by means of an appropriate filling material. The billet is then upset so as to obtain by extrusion the desired wing profile and then the filling material cores are removed by dissolution in an acid.
Turbine rotor blades with cooling channels are also manufactured according to this process, the return being interrupted before the end of the blade so as to retain additional material for the formation of the root, the blade possibly being subjected to a final operation of stamping with the sheep before the removal of the plugs of filling material.
In a vane, however, it is most important that the cooling channel (s) be positioned very exactly with respect to the outer surface in the wing profile of the vane, so that they neither impair the resistance. dawn or its other characteristics. With the extrusion or rewinding operation of the method cited above, it is not possible to ensure either the really exact final positioning of the channels with respect to the outer surface of the blade, nor the final shape of said canals.
The object of the present invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks.
The method of the invention for the manufacture of a vane exhibiting. at least one internal channel is characterized in that first of all a blank of size and shape is formed such that the blade can be obtained in its final shape by at least one precision forging operation of this blank, in that at least one hole is drilled in this blank, in that this hole is filled with a filling material capable of being lifted subsequently and in that the blank is subjected to at least one precision forging operation carried out between two dies capable of being brought together, in order to give the final shape of the blade to said blank, and in that the filling material is finally removed .
The accompanying drawing illustrates, by way of example, different implementations of the process of the invention.
In a first implementation illustrated by FIGS. 1 to 4, we start with a forged blank shown in fi-. 1 which comprises parts 10, 11 and 12 intended to form, respectively, the profiled body, the root and the upper shoulder of the blade. This blank is first of all pierced with five longitudinal holes 13, of circular section, as clearly visible in FIG. 2 which is a section along line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section similar to that of FIG. 2, on a larger scale, of part 10 of the blade, which has a cross section in the form of a bean. The holes 13 which pass through the blank from end to end are then buffered or filled with a filling material which will be capable of being removed subsequently, for example mild steel. The blank, once its holes 13 have been filled, is then subjected to one or more precision forging operations during which the bean-shaped section shown in FIG. 3 is brought to the final wing profile shown in FIG. 4.
The internal channels, which had an initial circular section, then present an elongated section approximately of the same shape as the wing profile given to the blade. The precision forging operations are carried out in such a way as to leave a slight excess thickness indicated at 14 which will be eliminated during machining, during the finishing of the blade.
In a second implementation illustrated by FIGS. 5 to 9, the blank which, in the first implementation, was obtained by forging, is obtained by a upsetting process. In this case, a metal ingot of generally cylindrical shape is first of all pierced with two holes of circular section arranged symmetrically with respect to the axis of the ingot as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6. The ingot thus drilled is then placed in the die 15 of a upsetting press, the punch 16 of which is provided with two mandrels 17 of constant circular section.
These mandrels are intended to enter the holes of the ingot when the punch enters the die 15, as shown in FIG. 7, the ingot being brought during this upsetting process to the shape shown in FIGS. 8 and 9. The blank thus obtained has a bean-shaped section and is pierced with two longitudinal holes of circular section. The process is continued as for the forged blank shown in FIG. 1, that is, the holes are filled with a filler material and the blank is brought to the final blade shape by precision forging operations.
The upsetting operation described above therefore constitutes only a preliminary operation in order to obtain the cover of appropriate shape provided with the desired internal channels. The final shaping of the blade is carried out only by precision forging, either with the press, between two dies.
Figs. 10 and 11 illustrate a third embodiment which makes it possible to obtain a conical channel in a turbine blade. According to this implementation, an ingot 18 of cylindrical shape is first of all pierced with an axial hole 19 of circular and constant cross section (FIG. 10). This hole is then filled with a suitable material, as before, and the ingot with its core is mechanically deformed during a forging operation, for example, so that its outer surface has a conical shape as shown in 20 in fig. 11.
This operation also has the effect of giving a certain taper to the hole shown at 21 and one can then proceed with precision forging of the blade, as previously, FIG. 11 representing only the partially formed blank of frustoconical shape which constitutes an intermediate stage of the process.
Figs. 12 and 13 illustrate a variant of the process in which the starting ingot 22 is itself frustoconical in shape. This ingot 22 is first of all axially drilled with a hole 23 of circular and constant section, then this hole is filled with a suitable material and the ingot is subjected to an operation during which it is flattened, by rolling by example, so as to obtain an ingot of straight section. constant external, as shown in fig. 13. During the rolling operation which leads to the disappearance of the external conicity of the ingot, the internal channel takes on a conical shape, as shown at 24.
Precision forging can then be carried out, as before, after which the core will be extracted from the conical hole 24. FIG. 14 shows, in perspective, a turbine blade which has been forged and machined to its final shape, this blade having an internal channel 25 and a root 26 of the well-known conventional shape.
Figs. 15 and 16 are straight sections, on a slightly larger scale, of two turbine blades each having a single internal channel. In the dawn shown in FIG. 15, an additional part 27 is housed in this channel which it divides into several independent wise steps in order to improve the cooling of the blade. In the dawn shown in fig. 16, the same result is obtained with tubes 28 housed in the internal channel of the blade.
Figs. 17 to 29 illustrate a fourth implementation of the method which is carried out from an ingot 29 of cylindrical shape pierced with an axial hole 30 (FIG. 17). This drilled ingot is introduced into the die 31 of a upsetting press, the punch 32 of which is provided with a tapered mandrel 33. The front end of the mandrel 33 is thin enough to penetrate into the hole 30 of the ingot and, of the made by the descent of the punch, one obtains an upset part having the shape indicated in fig. 19 and of elliptical cross section. This part has a central hole 34 of decreasing section and has a part 35 intended to constitute the root of the completed blade.
This part is then filled with a filler material and its part 35 is forged so as to bring it to the shape shown at 36 in FIG. 20. The following operation is represented by figs. 21 to 23, fig. 21 being a sectional view of the blade obtained by flattening the blank shown in FIG. 20, the degree of flattening apparent from FIGS. 22 and 23 which are sections respectively along lines 22-22 and 23-23 of FIG. 21. The flattened part thus obtained is then subjected to a forging operation which brings it to the shape shown in FIGS. 24 to 26.
Figs. 25 and 26 are sections respectively along lines 25-25 and 26-26 of FIG. 24. It should be noted that at this stage of the manufacture, a blank or molding is said to have a single internal channel of variable cross section and whose shape is already close to the wing profile. Figs. 27 to 29 illustrate the final precision forging operation of the vane, FIGS. 28 and 29 being sections respectively along lines 28-28 and 29-29 of FIG. 27. It will be noted that a twist was communicated at dawn during this final stamping.
It should be noted that, in this implementation illustrated by FIGS. 17 to 29, the essential phase of the process consists of the precision forging of a blank which previously has a channel filled with a core, the preliminary upsetting operation only serving to produce a hole of variable section. Figs. 30 and 31 illustrate another variant of the process used for the manufacture of turbine blades of the stem or root type in the form of a single or multiple dovetail.
As shown in fig. 30, the end of the root of the blade has a cross section of relatively small area and it can happen, during the final die-forging, that the core already in place is somewhat offset and even caused to burst on the 'one side of the root instead of emerging at the end of it. In order to avoid this possibility, the already formed core is drilled again as shown at 37 in FIG. 30, so that part of the core located in the root of the blade is removed.
The foot is then subjected to a tightening which brings it to the shape shown in FIG. 31, so that the end of hole 37 is reduced to a slot 38. During the final precision forging which will follow, this slot will be much less likely to puncture on the lateral faces of the root of the blade, due to its small lateral dimensions, the final precision forging can therefore be carried out without the risk that the slot 38 shifts seriously laterally.
Once the final precision forging is carried out, the root of the blade is drilled or milled from its end so as to obtain an opening which connects with the channel formed in the rest of the blade which, of course, presents at this final stage a section in the form of a wing profile.
