<B> Process for the production of </B> calcium carbide in <B> a shaft furnace </B> The invention relates to the production of calehuncarbide from carbon and lime by the shaft furnace process.
In such a production process, the required heat is generated by burning part of the fuel, which is mainly made of carbon, and which is introduced into the furnace with an oxygen-rich blower that is blown into the furnace via blow molds. Coke is generally used as fuel for this. As a result of the formation of one or more fire zones in the combustion chamber, a high temperature occurs locally, which is for example 200-3000 C.
The lime-rich aggregate brought into the furnace becomes liquid and reacted at this temperature. then with unburned fuel according to the equation

CaO <SEP> + <SEP> 3 <SEP> C <SEP> <U>--</U> <B>) </B> <SEP> CaC-. <SEP> <B> + <SEP> <I>CO</I> </B> <SEP> r <SEP> (1) with the formation of a carbide melt.
The calcium carbide, which is obtained under the above reaction conditions, is mainly due to the temperature and the ratio of lime to unburned carbon and is more or less heavily contaminated with lime. The aim is therefore to obtain a higher proportion of lime: carbon at the point where the reaction takes place. than the ratio expressed by the reaction equation, in other words, one has to ensure that there is an excess at that point. Amount of lime is permanently present.
In the case of a lime deficit, there is a risk that, as unreacted carbon accumulates in the carbide formation zone, disturbances occur in the inflow of the lime / coal mixture, which inhibit the formation of carbide.
The difficulty of the accumulation of unused coal is eliminated in the method according to German Patent No. 868600 by periodically burning away the coal that has not been used. The carbide obtained according to this process is almost free of lime, but one has to accept the disadvantage of a non-stationary process because the carbide formation process has to be repeatedly interrupted with regard to the mentioned periodic burning away, whereby a lot of oxygen is temporarily supplied to the fire zone that is greater than the amount required for the actual carbide formation.
The present method is intended to eliminate these disadvantages.
The method according to the present invention is characterized in that the carbon dioxide formation zones have one in relation to the reaction equation

CaO <SEP> + <SEP> 3 <SEP> C <SEP> <U>-</U><B>> </B> <SEP> CaC2 <SEP> <B> + <SEP> <I> CO </I> </B> <SEP> 7 is fed in as an excess amount of lime to be addressed and the carbide melt, which is heavily contaminated with lime and which is formed in these zones, is forced, before tapping, with the carbonaceous fuel with which it comes into contact occurs, mi react at such a high temperature
that the contaminating lime is at least partially converted with further formation of carbide. Despite the continuous supply of lime or a lime / coal mixture containing excess lime into the carbide formation zone, a CaC2 is ultimately produced in a stationary manner, the free lime content of which is far lower than that of the initially produced carbide.
This can be achieved in a simple manner if the location of the discharge opening is selected in such a way that the carbon melt produced is forced to remain below the fire zones for some time; This is where the process according to the invention differs from the usual process in which the carbide melt is usually cut off at a point which is immediately adjacent to the carbide formation zone.
It has been shown that - given that one. has a sufficiently high temperature in the fire zones, for example 2200-3000 C - the heat radiated from these zones produces the desired effect, which effect consists in the fact that the excess lime and carbon react with one another so quickly that it becomes possible to pierce the carbide melt continuously, if desired.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the Ausfüh shown in the accompanying drawings approximately.
1 and 2 each show a longitudinal section of an embodiment of carbide shaft furnaces shown in schematic form, in which the process described takes place automatically. The Carbidschaehtofen 1 of Fig.l be sitting an upper part of the furnace A, a middle part of the furnace 13 and a lower part of the furnace C.
The furnace part <B> A </B> contains the filling device 2 of the furnace. This device is equipped at the top with a closure 3 and a movable flap 4 in perpendicular ter direction.
The furnace part. B, that is, that part of the furnace that is between the filling device and the one with refractory material. disguised, equipped with blow molds 13 is located part of the furnace 12, represents the actual bunker space, which is dimensioned so that despite the aforementioned discontinuous charging of the filling device with raw materials, a continuous flow of these materials to the furnace part is guaranteed. In addition, the frame 11 with the tapping opening 14 present therein is arranged in the combustion chamber 12.
In the middle part of the oven. B a funnel tube 7 is attached, which divides this part into two ge separate subspaces, namely in an annular space 8 and a cylindrical space 9. The latter runs funnel-like in the actual furnace part 12 of the furnace. A funnel 6 is attached above the funnel tube 7. With this funnel, which is pivotably arranged on a horizontal axis 5 th, the contents of the filling device 2 can either be introduced into space 8 or into space 9, depending on the position of the funnel.
Furthermore, the furnace is equipped with a line 10 for the discharge of the gases wel che arise during the combustion of the fuel and the formation of carbide.
For the production of carbide using the above-mentioned device, the filling device 2 is alternated with e.g. B. coke, lime or charged with a lime / coke mixture. In the depicted position of the funnel 6, the coke filling from 2 will slide down into space 8 when the flap 4 is lowered, and the lime / coke mixture from 2 will slide down into space 9 when the funnel is rotated from this position by 180.
From the middle part of the furnace B, a core made of lime or a lime / coke geuniseh and surrounded by an annular layer of coke sinks into the furnace down into the frame. An oxygen-rich blower wind, for example from air enriched with oxygen, is generated via blow mold 13. or can consist of a mixture of oxygen and steam, supplied. Herewith. the coke located close to the mouths of the blow molds is burned, creating fire zones whose temperature is so high that the lime, which is at the level of the fire zones, melts and thus reacts with the coke.
The carbide melt that forms here at the bottom of the carbide shaft furnace collects in the frame 11, which is only slightly deep.
The blow molds are inclined slightly downwards, which means that the fire zones spread out in a horizontal direction. As a result of the resulting large radiation surface, the filling of the frame below the fire zones, which is composed of solid coke and a carbide melt, receives so much heat that it is sufficient to maintain a sufficiently high temperature, which then causes the in the carbide melt existing lime continues to react with the existing coke.
@ N'eil, moreover, the tapping opening is relocated to such a point that the resulting carbide melt, which contains an excess amount of lime, is continuously subject to the heat radiation of the fire zone from the carbide formation zone to the tapping opening, so that in the end a lime poor carbide melt can be tapped.
In the device according to FIG. 1 it can be achieved, for example by using blow molds whose length expansion is particularly selected, that the fire zones are formed exclusively in the middle of the fire chamber. In this case, the lime or the lime / coke mixture is fed to the space 8 and the coke to the space 9. The points at which the carbide formation zones develop are in the center of the combustion chamber between the points at which the blow molds open.
The point at which the tapping opening is laid should be such that this opening is in the middle of the gesture base or near it. This means that the carbide in the frame is subject to the effect of the heat radiation from the fire zones; In addition, the longest possible path then results, which extends from the carbide formation zones to the tap opening.
A second embodiment of the carbide deck furnace is shown in schematic form in FIG. In this case, as in the case of the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, both the fuel and the lime / coke mixture are not fed to one and the same Füllvorrich device, but they are fed separately to the individual shafts. The shafts designated by 1 are thus filled with fuel, for example coke.
By introducing an oxygen-rich blower wind through the blow molds 3, a high temperature is continuously generated in the area 3a of the ends of the blow molds by burning the coke located in the vicinity of these ends.
The shaft 2 is filled with a lime / coke mixture. The temperature conditions in the space 4 between the fire zones 3a are then such that carbide forms in the form of a melt. This carbide melt, which collects in the frame 5, is finally discharged via the tap opening 6.
It could be with the devices according to Fig.l and 2, for example with a supply of a lime / coke mixture corresponding to the molecular ratio CaO / C = 1 to 2, thus with a CaO excess of 50% to produce a carbide product with a carbide content of around 80% and which, in addition to ash constituents, only contained 3% Ca0.
